Howard P. Scarborough
Leicester, Vermont
Howard Perley Scarborough, 81, died Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at his home in Leicester.
Mr. Scarborough was born in Salisbury on February 19, 1918. He was the son of William and Matilda (Jones) Scarborough. He received is early education in local Leicester Schools. In his earlier years, he had worked on the family Dairy Farm. He worked at the Brandon Training School, for several years. He had also worked at Newton-Thompson Wooden Toy Manufacturing Company in Forestdale for many years. Mr. Scarborough had been the custodian for Leicester Central School and had driven school bus for several years. He was the owner and operator of Howard's Refuse until his retirement in 1981. He had served the Town of Leicester as Zoning Administrator. He had been a lifelong resident of Leicester.
Surviving is his wife Dorothy (White) Scarborough of Leicester; whom he married September 20, 1941 in Forestdale; three sons, Robert L. Scarborough and David F. Scarborough, both of Leicester, and Donald A. Scarborough of Brandon; two sisters, Gladys Chappell of Torrington, Connecticut and Florence Burnham of Derry, New Hampshire. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Scarborough.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 14, 2000 at the Leicester Church of the Nazarene. The Reverend Jim Ainsworth, Pastor and The Reverend Richard White, Pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church, officiated. A private burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Jennie E. Devoid
Middlebury, Vermont
Jennie E. Devoid, 92, died peacefully on January 12, 2000 at the Addison House in Middlebury. She was born in Salisbury on January 26, 1906, the daughter of Henry and Alice (Wimett) Baker.
She was a lifetime resident of Salisbury and had resided at the Salisbury Fish Hatcheries while it was operated by her husband, Howard Devoid. She also lived for a short time in Roxbury while her husband operated the Roxbury Fish Hatchery. She was a member of the Salisbury Congregational Church.
Jennie is survived by her sons, Howard Devoid, Jr. of Wayne, New Jersey and Eugene Devoid of Ogsdensburg, New Jersey; and her daughter, Clara Carroll of Middlebury. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Howard Devoid, III of Long Valley, New Jersey, Frank Devoid of Butler, New Jersey, Margaret Devoid of Pompton Lake, New Jersey, and Cheray Devoid of Ogsdenburg, New Jersey; four great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Jennie is also survived by a sister, Margaret Whitney of Salisbury.
Jennie was predeceased by her husband, Howard Devoid, Sr.; five sisters and four brothers.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, January 15, 2000 at the Salisbury Congregational Church in Salisbury, Vermont. Private interment followed the service at the Holman Cemetery in Salisbury.

Barbara E. Therrien
Charlotte, Vermont
Barbara E. Therrien, 75, died Sunday, January 16, 2000 at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was born March 30, 1924 in South Hero, Vermont, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Champagne) Demars.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur L. Therrien in 1964.
Barbara is survived by four children; Douglas Therrien and Sharon of Vergennes, Donald Therrien and Darlene of Charlotte, Randy Therrien and Denise of Hinesburg, and Roy Therrien of Burlington; six grandchildren, Jesse, Nicole, Jennifer, Tommy, Bobby, and Matt She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Robert; three brothers, Floyd Demars, Earl Demars and Herbert Demars; and a sister, Ruth Baker.
Special thanks to the Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, Dr. Chris Nunnink and staff, many special friends, and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Missionaries.
Funeral services will be private; and at a later date. There will be no public calling hours.

Isadore E. Mitchell
Cornwall, Vermont
Isadore Ernest Mitchell, 85, died Sunday, January 16, 2000 at the Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington. He was born in Shoreham, Vermont on November 2, 1914, the son of George and Mayme (Wemette) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Middlebury High School.
He served as Corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked as a logging foreman, he also ran M&M Taxi for a few years. He was formerly employed for Pizzagalli Construction.
He is survived by his wife Linda; his sons, Richard Mitchell and his wife Linda of Boca Raton, Florida, Issy Mitchell, Dean Mitchell, Robert "Bobby" Mitchell, and William "Billy" Mitchell, all of Cornwall; his daughters, Barbara O'Brien and her husband Michael of Boca Raton, Florida, Kit Quesnel and her husband John of Middlebury. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Mitchell of Plattsburgh, New York; his sisters, Velora Goyette of Orlando, Florida, Mildred Burke of Plattsburgh, New York, Teresa and Orel DeFayette of Plattsburgh, New York; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Kate Benedict Mitchell; his sons, Stewart "Stub" Mitchell and Donald "Donnie" Mitchell; his brothers, George, Elmer and Roger Mitchell; his sisters, Dorothy Trombley and Lea Mitchell and a grandson, Jeffrey Mitchell.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 19, 2000 at Sanderson Funeral Chapel, Middlebury, Vermont. The Reverend William Neil officiated. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Cornwall, Vermont.

Donald O. Randall
Middlebury, Vermont
Donald Osborne Randall, 73, passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2000 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
He was born on December 29, 1926 in Newton, Massachusetts, the son of Robert O. and Gladys (Borthwick) Randall. He grew up on Washington Street in Middlebury. He attended Middlebury High School. He was a World War II veteran having served with the United States Navy. He made a career as a bricklayer. Following that, he worked as a janitor at the Addison Independent for ten years before retiring in the mid-1990's. He was a member of the Waltham, Massachusetts Bricklayer's Union. He also was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW.
He is survived by his companion of 20 years, Doreen Gilmore; his sons, Howard Randall of Derry, New Hampshire and Stuart Randall of Goffstown, New Hampshire; a daughter, Susan Knights and her husband Mark of Derry, New Hampshire; his brothers, Malcolm Randall and his wife Margaret of Middlebury, Douglas Randall of Ohio; his half-sisters, Lorraine Williams and Lucille Williams; an uncle, Walter Randall of Rutland, Vermont; one grandchild, Jordan Knights and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph.
