HELEN F. SHEPARD
ST. ALBANS/SWANTON -- Mrs. Helen F. Shepard, age 75, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully left this world to be with her beloved husband, Bernard, and son Stephen. Helen was surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter as she died in the Fletcher Allen Health Care on Oct. 15, 2002.
Helen was born in St. Albans, March 22, 1927, daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Leahy) Callaghan. Helen attended school at St. Mary's High School and graduated in the class of 1945. On Jan. 7, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Bernard Shepard. They shared a wonderful 55 years of life together until his death 11 months ago, Nov. 21, 2001.
Helen was employed at the Central Vermont Railway, Fonda Container Corp., St. Albans Messenger, S. S.. Watsons and other local businesses. Most recently, she had built a beautiful apartment on to her daughter's and son-in-law's home in Swanton. She enjoyed her family and her weekly card games. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and was the treasurer for the Champlain Country Club. She will be dearly missed.
Helen leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Roland Church of Swanton; a granddaughter, Debbie and her husband Brian McMahon, their three children, Shannon, Matthew and Hannah, all of Highgate Springs; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mabel and Norman Lemnah of Silver Springs, Md.; an aunt, Mary Salls of St. Albans; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, and son, Stephen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday.
Memorials may be made in Helen's name to St. Mary's Church, 25 Fairfield St., St. Albans, Vt. 05478.
Interment will be in the Shepard family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
GLADYS MAY POISSANT
ALBURG/BURLINGTON -- Mrs. Gladys May Poissant, 91, a resident of the Burlington South End for nearly 25 years and a former longtime Alburg resident, died late Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2002, in the Birchwood Terrace Health Care Center in Burlington.
Gladys was born in the Missisquoi Province of Quebec, Canada, on April 10, 1911, the daughter of the late Guy J. and Emily B. (Roberts) Smith. She attended schools in Canada and was married to Leo Paul Poissant who predeceased her on March 3 of this year.
For many years Mrs. Poissant was associated with Alburg Branch of the Chittenden Bank, was a member of the Alburg Library Association and was parishioner of Saint Luke's Episcopal Church in Alburg Village.
In addition to her sister Olga Hamann of Newport Richey, Fla., Gladys leaves several nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Ida, Evelyn and Gertrude Smith, predeceased her.
Funeral services will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. from Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Alburg Village. Father Benjamin Chase, former rector of Saint Luke's, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Poissant family lot in Saint Amadeus Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidder Memorial Home of Swanton.
HAZEL GRANT QUINTIN
PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. -- Hazel Grant Quintin, 80, of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., died Oct. 13, 2002, following an extended illness with Alzheimer's Disease.
She was born in Bridgeport, Conn., raised her family in St. Albans, and moved to Florida in the late '70s. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II and worked in the legal profession most of her life.
She leaves her beloved husband, Leonard Quintin, originally from Swanton; a son, Jeffrey Quintin of Libby, Montana; and a daughter, Julie Quintin of Port St. Lucie, Fla.

JEREMIAH J. O'RIORDAN
FLETCHER -- Jeremiah "Jerry" Joseph O'Riordan, age 79, died unexpectedly Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2002, at his home. He was born July 17, 1923, in County Cork, Ireland, son of the late Patrick and Mary (Crowley) O'Riordan.
As an accomplished athlete and member of the track team at Rice High School in New York City, he ran an award winning 4:40 mile. He served his country well during World War II as a U.S. Army Staff Sergeant with the Armored Tank Division. On Sept. 15, 1951, he married the former Helen Haas in the Blessed Sacrament Church, New Rochelle, N.Y. Jerry was a respected police officer, retiring from the NYC Police Department in 1976.
He was a Eucharistic Minister with St. Luke's Church in Fairfax as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Donald Kelly Council 10830. He loved sports, was a proud Yankee fan and never missed a Notre Dame football game. He loved his woodworking and handcrafted wonderful frames for his wife's beautiful paintings. He so looked forward to the precious times spent with his family and grandchildren.
Jerry had a kind heart and will be well remembered for his keen sense of humor and his ability to bring light into the lives of others. He will be dearly missed by his family and all of those who had the pleasure to know and love him.
He is survived by his wife, Helen O'Riordan of Fletcher; two sons, Jeremiah O'Riordan and his wife Meg of Underhill, and Stephen O'Riordan and his wife Roberta "Bobbi" of Crystal Lake, Ill.; a daughter, Joan O'Riordan and her husband Joseph Migani of Woodbridge, Conn.; one sister, Mary Smith of New Milford, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Pia, Michael, Kate, Jeremiah, Erin, Jim and Aidan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by his twin brother, John O'Riordan.
Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated with Reverend Francis E. Connors and Reverend Francis Prive on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Church, Fairfax. Burial will be in Mount St. Peter's Cemetery, Derby, Conn. at a later date where full military burial honors will be accorded the World War II veteran.
The family requests Memorial Mass Cards in Jerry's memory. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
JACQUELINE "JACKIE" COLLINS
WINOOSKI/ST. ALBANS -- Jacqueline "Jackie" Collins, 60, a longtime resident of Winooski, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2002, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans after a long illness.
Jackie was born in Colchester on Aug. 3, 1942, the daughter of the late Victor and Emerentienne (LeBlanc) Gratton.
She was a graduate of Cathedral High School. She was married to Mark Collins, who predeceased her in 1975. Jackie was employed for 34 years with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
She was a member of the Parkinson's Support Group. She enjoyed traveling and gambling and loved to be with her grandchildren.
Jackie is survived by two sons, Michael Collins and his wife Meg of South Burlington and Dale Collins and his wife Mary Lou of St. Albans; three grandchildren, Mark, Adam and Evan Collins; two step-grandchildren, Steven and Laura Hall; two sisters, Margaret Terry of Swansea, Mass. and Claudette Bissonnette and her husband Donald of Georgia; a sister-in-law, Simonne Gratton of Colchester; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Albert Gratton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2002, at 1 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winooski. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In keeping with Jackie's wishes, there will be no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 1250 Hylan Blvd., Suite 4B, Staten Island, N.Y. 10305-1946.

G.W. TATRO
WATERVILLE -- Gerald Warren Tatro, age 80, a lifelong resident of this area passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 12, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. He was born Aug. 28, 1922, in Montgomery, son of the late Joseph and Lou (Davis) Tatro.
He married the former Gertrude Hooper in Johnson on Dec. 9, 1949. She predeceased him in 1972. Gerald served his country well as a private in the U.S. Army. He fought with the "Big Red" division and was seriously wounded during the "Second Wave" landing at Omaha Beach during the Normandy invasion in World War II.
Gerald was proud of his membership with the VFW Hyde Park Post #7779 as well as the American Legion. He never let his war injuries keep him down and later started the G.W. Tatro Construction earth moving business in Jeffersonville, a well known successful and respected "Good Family Business." Every successful business needs a "Right Hand Man" and Gerald will be especially missed by G.W. Tatro's loyal and extremely devoted, Stephen Locke.
He was extremely community oriented and responsive as a Fifty Year member of the Masons. Gerald always looked forward to the trips he would take with his caregiver and companion Barbara Davis as they traveled parts of the country enjoying their stays in Kissimmee, Fla. and Laughlin, Nev. Gerald never missed a good casino where he enjoyed the people and excitement.
He was well known at heavy equipment auctions all over the country where he would watch the various types of equipment and machinery he loved so much come and go from all over the world. As a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he never missed an opportunity to gather the family together for the precious times enjoyed at their summer camp on South Pond in Eden where many a family summer Barbecue, Fall Thanksgiving and Traditional Vermont White Christmas would be spent together.
The local community of friends and neighbors he loved so much and where he proudly called home celebrated Gerald's 80th birthday with a wonderful party for him at the G.W. Tatro building on Rte 15 in Johnson this last summer. It was a well deserved celebration the family will remember forever.
Gerald was a pillar of the community in every sense of the word. He was the life definition of honest, fair and trustworthy and he will be tremendously missed by his many friends and family and all others who have had the extreme privilege to know and love him.
He is survived by two sons, Gerry Tatro of Jeffersonville, and Greg Tatro and his wife Dawn of Johnson; a daughter, Gayle Tatro of Johnson; his companion, Barbara Davis of Waterville; a brother, Reginald Tatro and Arlene of Waterville; a sister, Dorcas White of Jeffersonville; eight grandchildren, Dan Tatro and his wife Mary, Gerry Tatro Jr. and his wife Tracie, Christine Aprizi and her husband Jose, Gregory Tatro, Jenna Tatro, Brandon Sheldrick, Warren Sheldrick, Gretchen Piette; a loving and close confidant, Denny Thomas and his wife Elaine of Waterville; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Gerilyn "Teet" Piette; and a brother, Raymond Tatro.
Visiting hours will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home today, Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at 1 p.m. in the Waterville Union Church with the Reverends Jan Rathburn and Rich Dickey officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Mountain View Cemetery, Waterville, where full military honors will be accorded the World War II veteran.

EVELYN R. REYNOLDS
BAKERSFIELD -- Evelyn R. Reynolds, age 79, died Sunday morning, Oct. 13, 2002, at her home with her son, Pat, at her side. She was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Chelsea, Mass., the daughter of the late Herbert and Mary (Hines) Miller.
She was a resident of Bakersfield for the past 16 years and a former resident of Burlington, Mass. where she had been employed at Microwave Associates as a supervisor. She was a member of St. Anthony/St. Georges Catholic Church in East Fairfield. Evelyn was very independent and could always be seen gardening outside her home with her dog, Princess, at her side.
She is survived by her two sons, James V. Reynolds and his wife Mary of Burlington, Mass. and their children Daniel, Lyn, David and Brendan Reynolds, Vincent M. "Pat" Reynolds Jr. of Bakersfield and his children Kyle, David, Caitlin and John; her great-grandchildren, Samantha, Isabelle, Taylor and Abigail; a brother and his wife, Herbert and Eileen Miller of Sommerville, Mass.; a sister, Alice Powers of Wayland, Mass.; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent M. Reynolds; two grandsons, James Vincent Reynolds and Brian Vincent Reynolds; three sisters, Mary Marshall, Connie Lamson and Virginia Irish; two brothers, Phil and Joseph Miller.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 11 at St. Anthony/St. Georges Catholic Church in East Fairfield with Reverend Joseph Sullivan celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery in Bakersfield. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.

JANET E. ALLAIN
RICHFORD -- Janet E. Allain, age 56, died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at her home. She was born June 20, 1946, in St. Albans, the daughter of the late Eugenia (Cears) Belrose Barber.
She was a 1965 graduate of Swanton High School. She married Richard Allain in 1969, at which time she worked for Union Carbide before taking time to raise her family. The past few years, she worked as a substitute teacher in Richford, Berkshire, Montgomery and Enosburg.
Janet was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford, serving as Eucharistic Minister and also volunteered countless hours with Bingo, bazaars and funeral dinners, among other events.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Allain of Richford; her son, Spencer Allain and his wife Gayle of Reston, Va.; her daughter, Jennifer Allain and her friend Adam Cloud of Burlington; a very special grandson, Carter Allain, who was in her life for such a short time, but brought her immense joy. She is also survived by two sisters and her husbands, Janice and Lynn Austin of Williston, and Leona and Richard Sweet of Auburndale, Fla.; three brothers-in-laws, Ray Allain and his wife Carolyn of St. Albans, Darence Hakey of Swanton, and Richard Mumley of Colchester; three sister-in-laws, Alice Knox and Denise Allain, both of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters, Betty Burt, Charlotte Hakey and Charlene Mumley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11 at All Saints Catholic Church with Reverend Frank Eksterowicz celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Swanton at 2:30 p.m. Visiting hours will be held Monday evening from 6-9 at All Saints Dorian Hall, Main St., Richford.
