NECTAR E. SANDERS

FRANKLIN -- Nectar E. Sanders, 90, of the Carriage House in Franklin, passed away on Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, in the Northwestern Medical Center following a short illness.

She was born in Jamaica, N.Y., June 17, 1912, the daughter of the late James P. and Mary Josephine (Prindle) Zobian.

Nectar was a lieutenant in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II. She was a member of A.A.R.P. and several bridge clubs. She loved cats and all animals, especially her loving cat, "Butterscotch Angel." She enjoyed scrabble, crosswords, playing bridge, birdwatching and reading.

Survivors include her son, James C. Sanders and his wife, Charlene of St. Albans; a daughter in law, Cindy Sanders of Newtown, Pa.; grandchildren, James C. Sanders II and his wife Rebecca, Jeffrey Sanders and his wife, Debbie, Cathryn (Sanders) Branon and her husband, Edward (Rusty), and Ashley and Christina Sanders of Pennsylvania; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew, Katelyn and Emma Sanders of St. Albans, Jimmy, R. Joy, Johnathan and Joshua Sanders of Lyndon, and Laura and Eddie Branon of Sheldon. She was predeceased by a son, Horace Greely Sanders III; her brothers, Ernest Zobian, Godfrey Zobian, James Zobian; and a sister, Lucy Leigh.

She will be missed by Riley, Keith, Bertha, Laura, Maureen and others from the Carriage House. The family would like to the thank those people from the Carriage House and Franklin County Home Health Agency for everything that was done for Nectar while she resided there.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider The Franklin County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1031, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

ROBERT E. BARNES

NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. -- Robert E. Barnes, 59, of 79 Linwood Ave., Whitinsville, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, in the Milford Whitinsville Regional Hospital.

He is survived by several cousins in Vermont.

Mr. Barnes was born Nov. 26, 1942, in Whitinsville, son of the late Herbert and Helen (Long) Barnes. He grew up in Whitinsville and lived in St. Albans for 12 years, returning here many years ago. He graduated from Northbridge High School in 1960, and from East Coast Aero Tech in Lexington, Mass.

He was an assembler at Heald Machine Company in Worcester for several years before retiring due to illness in 1987. He previously worked at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn.

Mr. Barnes served in the Army National Guard, He was a member of the Village Congregational Church in Whitinsville and his hobbies included hunting and fishing.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 22, at 10:30 a.m. in the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville. Burial will be in Riverbank Cemetery, Stowe. There are no calling hours.

DANIEL J. TROMBLEY

ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Daniel James Trombley, age 46, died Aug. 17, 2002, at his home after a courageous year of fighting cancer. He was born Sept. 1, 1955, in St. Albans, son of the late Paul and Bertha (Thibault) Trombley.

Danny worked as a mechanic for Lake Street Texaco and in recent years in roofing construction for Gary Smith Roofing. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, SAL. He loved cards, gambling and going fishing and hunting with the boys. Dan also enjoyed the home-grown life of Vermont and an occasional beer or two, just to be sociable. A special thanks is extended to all of his friends who were there for him. He was loved and will be truly missed.

He is survived by his two daughters, Sarah Trombley of Portsmouth, Va. and Emma Trombley of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; his 11 brothers and sisters to include Paul and Diane Trombley of Bakersfield, Claire and George Boutah of Alburg, George and Carolyn Trombley of Hartland, John and Jeanette Trombley of Essex Jct., Mary Ellen and Roland Prairie of Newport, Ramona Trombley of St. Albans, Tim and Robin Trombley of St. Albans, Marshia and Angelo Vincoli of New Milford, Conn., Carolyn and Dennis Hall of Richmond, Va., Juanita Manley and Sherrie Trombley, both of St. Albans; 19 nieces and nephews, Christina, Emily and Jennifer Trombley, Amy, Michael and Patrick Boutah, Amber Trombley, Chantal, Melissa and Marcel Trombley, Alexander and Nicholas Prairie, Matthew Trombley, Chelsea and Tyler Trombley, Alexandra and Victoria Vincoli, Lisa Judd and Steven Hall; and many very good friends. He was predeceased by his father in 1986, and his mother in 1993.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at 10 a.m. in Holy Angels Church. Interment will follow in the Trombley family lot in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., St. Albans, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the wishes of his family.

Arrangements are entrusted to Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.

HAROLD G. "MOE" LeMAY

ST. ALBANS TOWN -- Harold G. "Moe" LeMay, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at his home on Samson's Point in St. Albans. He was born in Georgia, Vermont Nov. 16, 1924, the son of the late Ephram and Olive (Clark) LeMay. In 1975, he married May Ann Fregeau in St. Albans.

Moe was a retired trainman for the Central Vermont Railway where he worked for 39 years. At age 17, he left high school to join the Army during World War II. He received his high school diploma from Bellows Free Academy this year. He was a communicant of Holy Angels Church.

He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Bakersfield Country Club and the Cypress Point Country Club in Florida. He was a member and past commander of Robert E. Glidden Post 758, VFW, and a member of Green Mountain Post 1, American Legion, Green Mountain State 2, Disabled American Veterans, and the Central Vermont Railway Veterans Association.

Moe is survived by his wife of over 27 years, May; a son, Donald Pierre LeMay of St. Albans; five daughters, Pamela and Larry Rocheleau of St. Albans Bay, Penny and Bob Duhamel of Swanton, Joyce and Wayne Burnor of St. Albans, JoAnn and Joe Cobb of Georgia, and Bonnie LeMay of Arkansas. He also leaves a brother, Richard, and his wife, Ginnie LeMay of Johnson; 13 grandchildren, Chad, Shawn and Erica Rocheleau, Kristy and Stacey Duhamel, Rusty and his wife, Mary Kay Burnor, Shawna Burnor, Erin and Maurice LeMay, Ashley Messier, Erin Cobb, Gail and Travis Bonnett, and JoAnn Cobb; and seven great-grandchildren, Devin LeMay, Hailey Freeman, Chelsea Paradis, Brandon Paradis, Tucker Burnor, Alex and Kaela Bonnett. He will be missed by his special nieces and nephews, Nancy and Pat Doherty of Ohio, and John and Sandy DeMarinis; sisters-in-law, Bernadette DeMarinis of St. Albans and Merilyn LeMay of Ohio; and brother-in-law, Bob Luman of Fairfax, as well as special friends, Rae Catlin of St. Albans, Christy Hamel of St. Albans Bay, Joan Secord of Florida, Harry and Sherry Newell of Florida, Rosemary and Jim O'Neil, John and Betty Finn, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles LeMay; a sister, Bernice Luman; and a stepson, David Rocheleau.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Heald Funeral Home. Interment, with full military honors, will be in the family lot in St. Luke's Cemetery in Fairfax.

Friends who wish may make memorial contributions to the Hospice Program of Franklin County Home Health Agency, 3 Home Health Circle, St. Albans, Vt. 05478.

Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.

RUDY WADE COLE

RICHFORD -- Rudy Wade Cole, age 53, husband of Candice (Crosier) Cole, died Friday morning, Aug. 16, 2002, at his home with his loving family at his side.

He was born May 9, 1949, in Cowansville, Quebec, the son of Robert W. Cole and the late Florence (Patch) Cole.

Rudy grew up on dairy farms in Mansonville & Iron Hill, Quebec before making his home in Richford, when he married Candice Crosier July 15, 1978. He was employed at Wyeth Nutritional in Georgia until he retired in March of 2002, due to poor health. He was very active in Boy Scouts of America and was a faithful member of the Richford United Methodist Church and served on many church committees. Rudy enjoyed woodworking, gardening, antique cars, camping and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Candice Cole of Richford; one son and his wife, Wade Harlie and Laura (Doe) Cole of Milton; two daughters, Carrie Alene Cole and her fiance Mark Garrow of Richford and SPC Carol Lynn Cole, stationed at Camp Red Cloud, Korea; his father, Robert W. Cole of Cowansville, Quebec; one brother and his wife, Robert and Doris Cole of Hay Lakes, Alberta; two sisters, Mary Cole of Montreal, Quebec and Melissa Cole and her fiance Robin Robitaille of Waterloo, Quebec; special family friend, Donelda Murray of Montreal, Quebec; his faithful canine companion, Precious, who has been by his side through thick and thin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Richford United Methodist Church with Pastor Kate Tobey officiating. Interment will follow in the Richford Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.

LINWOOD H. STEINHOUR

RICHFORD/HIGHGATE -- Linwood H. Steinhour, age 81, died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.

He was born Aug. 30, 1920, in Berkshire, the son of the late William and Emma (Bashaw) Steinhour.

He was a resident of Richford most of his life and for the past eight years made his home with his daughter and son-in-law Pat and Gary Vieta in Highgate Center. He was employed for several years at Sweat Comings Furniture Co. in Richford. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and was a former member of the American Legion Post 12 of Richford. He enjoyed bee keeping and working with horses.

He is survived by his former wife, Cora (Wright) Steinhour of St. Albans; a son, Linwood H. Steinhour Jr. of Burlington; four daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and Wayne Royce of Silsbee, Texas, Cheryl and Kermet Eldred and Patrinka and Gary Vieta, both of Highgate, and Tammy McKenzie of Burlington; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Steinhour of Glenns Falls, N.Y.; two sisters, Bernice Clark of Rochester and Marion Cantell of Hancock; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Molly Bea Steinhour; six brothers, Arthur, Malcolm, Wallace, Gardner, Gerald and George; four sisters, Ethel, Mae, Stella and Christine.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Berkshire with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the Richford Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford.

DEBORAH ANN TUDHOPE

BRANFORD, Conn./ISLE LA MOTTE -- Deborah Ann Tudhope, 50, a long-time resident of Branford, Conn., passed away peacefully at her home after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Her family and faithful cat, Lucy, surrounded her. She was a graduate of Branford High School and Branford School of Business.

Deborah was born in St. Albans, Vt., the daughter of Norman and the late Adora (Valentine) Tudhope. She is survived by her father and Ruth, his wife of 35 years; a sister and best friend, Catherine Tudhope, whom all reside in Isle La Motte; a paternal and favorite aunt, Dorothy T. Maguire, from Burlington; and a step-sister, Marilyn Lagrow, and niece, Abby, who live in Fairfield; and many cousins. Her mother, Adora, predeceased her in 1964.

She was a 28-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter 76 in Alburg, and a member of the St. Andrews Society of Vermont.

As she wished, she passed away at her home in Branford, Conn., and will be buried in the family plot in Isle La Motte. Calling hours will be on Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. Swanton. The Order of Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter 76 will be honoring Deborah with a ritualistic service at 5 p.m.

A 12 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, at the Isle La Motte Methodist Church in Isle La Motte, with the Rev. Deborah, Pastor of Isle Methodist Church, presiding. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in the Isle La Motte Village Cemetery, where she will be buried next to her mother.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Isle La Motte Methodist Church in her memory.

WILLIAM B. "BILL" MacLEAY III

COLCHESTER -- William B. "Bill" MacLeay III, 54, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, as the result of injuries sustained in a bicycle accident.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1947, in Windsor, the son of William B. MacLeay, Jr. and Maryon (Behrends) MacLeay.

Bill graduated from Windsor High School and received his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University, his M. Ed. from the University of Vermont and his Ph. D. from the University of Northern Colorado.

Bill served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era and was discharged as a First Lieutenant. Returning to Vermont, he spent most of his career working in higher education, where he was an innovator in interactive, multi-media teaching methods. Bill had served as a vice-president of Burlington College and had been on the faculty of Community College of Vermont and Johnson State College, where he was an External Degree Program Mentor in Franklin County. He was the principal in W.B. MacLeay & Associates, an educational consulting firm.

Bill was a longtime selectman for the town of Colchester, serving as chairman for nine years. He had been a liaison officer for the Air Force Academy and a former president of the Green Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also had worked on the development of local bike trails and the Causeway Park.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Maggie" (Stevenson) MacLeay of Colchester; their two sons, Andrew Stewart MacLeay and Michael Patrick MacLeay, both of Colchester; his father, William B. MacLeay, Jr. of Windsor; two brothers, Thomas H. MacLeay and his wife, Charlotte, of East Montpelier, and Richard D. MacLeay of West Lebanon, N.H.; his sister, Sandra Bechtel and her husband, Henry, of Shelburne; and nine nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Maryon MacLeay.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2002, at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 2 Cherry St., Burlington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Local Motion, 1 Steele St., Burlington, VT 05401, to promote bike trails and safety, or to the Community College of Vermont, Attn: Judy Fitch, Development Office, P.O. Box 120, Waterbury, Vt. 05676, for a memorial scholarship to benefit adult learners in Franklin County.
