HARRY RODDY
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla./ENOSBURG FALLS - Harry Roddy, 89, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Hernando/Pasco Hospice Care Center in Dade City, Fla. after a long illness.
He was born in Enosburg Falls, Vt., son of the late Terrance and Alice Roddy of Enosburg Falls.
Harry worked as a farmer and drove a truck for 40 years. He retired to Florida 25 years ago and moved to Zephyrhills 13 years ago from Deltona, Fla.
Harry is survived by two sons Fenwick Roddy of East Canaan, Conn. and Larry Roddy of Lady Lake, Fla. and one daughter, Virginia Kilmer of Torrington, Conn; one brother, Terrance Roddy of Enosburg Falls, Vt.; and one sister Imogene Collins of Fairfax, Vt. Nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 17 nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Edna Columb, of Franklin, Vt.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Zephyrhills. A wake service was held on Monday, June 17, at 5:30 p.m. A Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father George Rozycki on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with entombment following at Chapel Hill Gardens Mausoleum in Dade City, Fla.
SHIRLEY MAY PLOOF
HIGHGATE CENTER/ADDISON -- Shirley May Ploof, 62, died Saturday evening, June 22, 2002.
A longtime resident of Highgate Center Shirley died at the home of her son Donald and his wife Cheryl on the Mountain Road in Addison where she has resided for the past five years. She was a member of the Highgate United Methodist Church and the Wildey Rebekah Lodge #16 of Highgate.
Shirley was born in Stanbridge East, Quebec Canada the daughter of the late Ella May Brow. She attended schools in Canada and on Oct. 4, 1954, married Eugene Dale Ploof who predeceased her on, Feb. 20, 2000.
She is survived by her daughter Darlene Comtois and husband Robert of Highgate Center and three sons, Donald Ploof and his wife Cheryl of Addison, and Wayne and Kevin Ploof both of Highgate Falls; eight grandchildren, Dawn Fisher, Chastity and Jason Johnson, Shawnda Comtois, Eric Ploof, Kyle Ploof, Miranda Ploof, Shannon Comtois and Jessica Terry; Five great grandchildren, Seth Fisher, Jacob Johnson, Jason Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson and Brooke Cardwell; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A brother Donald "Sparky" Derosia predeceased her on 1993.
A Service of Death and Resurrection celebrating Shirley's life will be held Thursday, June 27, 2002, at 3 p.m. from the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend, pastor of the Highgate United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will take place later in the family lot in the Highgate Center Cemetery. Friends may call at Kidder Memorial Home on Thursday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the hour of the funeral.

SUE V. HASSELBAUER
SWANTON -- Mrs. Sue Hasselbauer, 81, a resident of Swanton for over 35 years died late Saturday afternoon, June 22, 2002, in the Haven Health Center, St. Albans.
Sue was born in Tuckahoe, New York on May 29, 1921, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Germo) Mangine. She attended local schools within the Westchester County area in New York and on May 19, 1964 married Andy Hasselbauer, who survives her.
Sue worked in food service for over 40 years and for many years owned/operated a restaurant on 7 Spring St. in White Plains, New York prior to her retirement.
In addition to her husband Andy, Sue is survived by a brother, James V. Mangine, of Brookfield, Conn.; other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave. in Swanton, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002. Funeral services and interment will be held later this week in White Plains, N.Y. under the direction of the Mc Mahon, Lyon and Hartnett Funeral Home 491 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains, New York.
AIDEN DAVID TOWER
BERKSHIRE - Aiden David Tower, infant son of Liam and Jody (Monette) Tower, died Friday, June 21, 2002, surrounded by his family at the Boston Children's Hospital. Aidan was born June 8, 2002 in Boston.
Besides his parents he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Allan And Patricia (Partridge) Monette of Bakersfield; paternal grandparents, Robert and Deborah (Denker) Tower of Berkshire; maternal great grandparents, George Partridge of Bakersfield, and Veronica (Kelley) Monette of Bakersfield; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls is in charge of arrangements.
EDWARD L. DUDLEY
ST. ALBANS -- Mr. Edward L. Dudley, age 58, lost his fight with cancer and went to the Lord Thursday evening, Feb. 7, 2002, from the Northwestern Medical Center. He was born in Winooski Sept. 24, 1943, son of the late Edward J. and Delsa (McKinney) Dudley.
Ed served with the Merchant Marines for several years and later was self employed. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed picture painting.
His survivors include his three sons Edward L. Dudley III of St. Albans, James and Donna Dudley of Philadelphia, Pa., Kristian Dudley of Georgia; three grandchildren Brittany Lynn Dudley, James Dudley, Jr. and Erica Dudley; his former wife Susan Vadino of Pocono Lake, Pa.; a brother Donald and his wife Caroline McKinney of Jay Peak; sister Joyce Hind of St. Albans; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 21, 2002, at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery. Father Maurice Roy, pastor of Holy Angels Church, officiated. Words of remembrance were shared by his family. Interment followed in the Dudley/Paquette family lot in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Brady & Levesque Funeral Home.
STEPHEN N. SPARKS
ST. ALBANS - Stephen Ned Sparks, 77, died June 21, 2002 at Holiday House in St. Albans following a courageous struggle with colon cancer.
He was born in Leicester on March 24, 1925, the son of Ned A. and Ruth (Cahee) Sparks. Orphaned as a youngster, "Sparky" was placed in the Kurn Hattin Home in Westminster where he received a good preparation for life, including vocational training.
From 1942 to 1982, he worked as a farmhand in Cambridge for the McGoverns, and in Bakersfield for the Stufflebeams, Barnes, Lawyers and Doanes. For 18 years on the Holden and Laura Doane farm, he was considered a member of their family. He stayed with the Dr. Joseph Vargas family in Rutland while recuperating from back surgery.
Steve lived at Mr. Sterling Weed's residence in St. Albans City, where he kept busy doing yard work and shoveling snow for downtown merchants. Later, he lived at the Gray Gables in Swanton, the Napoli Home in Sheldon, and Holiday House in St. Albans.
Steve served in the Vermont Army National Guard in the Enosburg Motor Pool, during the 1940s. He belonged to the Franklin County Senior Citizens. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, writing letters, singing, dancing and talking about the weather. Relatives describe him as a caring man who was down to earth and honest. He never pretended to be anything but himself and was a rare and wonderful person whom they were proud to have known.
His sister, Shirley Nesbitt, and brother George Sparks predeceased him.
Survivors include three nephews, David Sparks and George Sparks, Jr., both of Rutland and Charlie Nesbitt; cousins Marletta, and her husband, Fred LaPlant of Pittsford, Charleen Wood of Center Rutland, Arleen Sellers of Osipee Center, N.H., Ralth Cahee of Castleton, Bud Guiles of Brighton, Mass., Robert Phelps of Pittsford, Sheila Jones of Pittsford, Lorenzo Phelps of Fair Haven, Roberta Teer of Heunelton, N.Y., Clara Mailhart of Rutland, and Terry Taylor of Utica, N.Y.
He also leaves a sister-in-law, Freda Sparks Wood of Rutland, as well as special friends Mary Ann and Betty Merrill of Craftsbury.
A graveside service will be held at the Branch Cemetery in Craftsbury at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kurn Hattin Home, P.O. Box 127, Westminster, Vt. 05158.

DAVID WAYNE DECKER
EVERGREEN, Colo. -- David Wayne Decker, 62, a resident of Evergreen, Colo. passed away on June 4, 2002. He was born in Colchester, Vt. on Feb. 5, 1940, and was the son of Dewell and Ruth Decker.
David graduated from Bellows Free Academy, Fairfax in 1958. He was also a graduate of Southwestern Texas State University.
He served his country in the United States Navy and was a plank owner on the U.S.S. Enterprise. David served in the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade.
David married Louise Hubbert, formerly of Fairfax, in August of 1966. They had two children, Nathan and Natalie.
He and his family lived in Texas, New Mexico and, for the last 20 years, in Evergreen, Colo. David worked for the U.S. Department of Labor for 26 years.
David enjoyed his work and his family. At the time of his death he was completing his graduate studies in history at the University of Colorado at Denver where he was an outstanding student. He was writing a book about a frontier journalist named Hal Borland, who had lived in Flagler, Colo. and had recently obtained a grant to ensure the publication of his book.
David loved history and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was also a member of Phi Alpha Theta honor society.
He was kind, compassionate, generous and honest. He will be missed tremendously by all of his family and friends.
David is survived by his wife, Louise, of Evergreen, Colo.; son Nathan and his wife Angie, and grandson Blake of Omaha, Neb.; daughter Natalie and her husband Darrel Guadnola and granddaughter Abigail of Denver, Colo.; brother Winston Decker of Happy Jack, Ariz.; sister Betty Benedict and her husband, Ben of Port Charlotte, Fla.; sister Patricia Shaar of Jacksonville, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David attended Conference Baptist Church in Evergreen where funeral services were held. Interment with the U. S. Naval Color Guard was at Evergreen Memorial Park.
David loved his family and he will be missed as a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
