BERNARD G. DUTO
(September 7, 1935 - July 24, 2015)
U.S. Veteran

White River Jct, VT - BERNARD G. DUTO, 79, of White River Junction, died Friday morning, July 24, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction.

He was born September 7, 1935 in Athol, MA; the son of John and Bernadette (Chaloux) Duto. He was raised in Randolph, and graduated from Randolph Union High School. Bernard was married to Hannelore Barth in Germany in 1962, and moved to White River Junction from Randolph in 1973. He had worked as a lens grinder for Bausch and Lomb in White River Junction. He later worked as a lock smith and then for New England Telephone. Bernard was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR racing.

Survivors include his wife, Hannelore Duto of White River Junction; daughters, Laura Mitchell and husband, Wally of West Lebanon, NH, and Heidi Duto of White River Junction; sons, Terry Duto and partner, Michael of Hinsdale, NH and Peter Duto of Barre, VT; sister, Irene Piche of Florida; grandchildren, Justin and Katelyn Mitchell. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Forrest.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm Tuesday, July 28th at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery Chapel in Randolph Center, with Pastor Thomas Harty, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow. There are no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301 Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

JARED MARTIN BROOKS
(December 15, 1981 - July 9, 2015)

Randolph Center, VT - JARED MARTIN BROOKS, 33, of Randolph Center, died Thursday, July 9, 2015 in Randolph Center.

He was born December 15, 1981 in Randolph; the son of Duane and Kathryn (Martin) Brooks. He was raised in Braintree, graduated from Randolph Union High School in 2000 and moved to Randolph Center in 2011. He enjoyed snowmobiling, playing basketball and golf.

Survivors include his parents, Duane and Kathryn Brooks; sister, Lyndsey Brooks, all of Randolph Center; grandfather, Weston Martin of Northfield; great-grandmother, Theresa Fullam of Randolph and his dog, Bentley.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, July 15th at the Randolph Center cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Gifford Medical Center, Last Mile Ride Fund, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, VT 05060 or to the Central Vermont Humane Society, P.O. Box 687, Montpelier, VT 05601.

Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home.

EVELYN M. LAGRO
(October 28, 1918 - July 4, 2015)

Bethel, VT - Evelyn M. Lagro died peacefully at her daughter’s home on July 4, 2015 at the age of 96. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Evelyn was born on October 28, 1918 in Windsor, Vermont. The daughter of James McGowan and May Belle Heath, she spent her childhood in Windsor and Randolph, Vermont.

United in marriage to Clyde Lagro on October 17, 1942, they settled in Enosburg Falls, Vermont to raise their family. In addition to caring for her family, Evelyn enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening and traveling.

She leaves her son Henry Lagro and wife Sharlene of Comfort TX, daughter Linda Van Cor and husband Charles Sr of Hartford VT, daughter Karen Lagro of Bethel VT, grandson Mark Van Cor and wife Christine of Hartford VT, granddaughter Stacey Van Cor and great-grandsons Charles III and Johnathan Van Cor of Lebanon NH and several nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Clyde, son Terry, daughter Wendy, grandson Charles Van Cor Jr and sisters Irene McGowan and Polly Brigham.

Burial will be in the Maple Grove cemetery in Bakersfield, Vermont. There will be no calling hours. A devoted animal lover, donations may be made in Evelyn’s name to the Central Vermont Humane Society at the following address: PO Box 687 Montpelier VT 05601 or online at www.centralvermonthumane.org.

Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

LAWRENCE GRAZIANO
(April 8, 1920 - June 27, 2015)
U.S. Veteran

Bethel, VT - Lawrence Graziano, 95, of Bethel, died Saturday evening, June 27, 2015 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston.

He was born April 8, 1920 in Bethel the son of Raffaelo and Mariantonia (Morrell) Graziano. He was married to Irene Pease on April 15, 1955 and was a World War II Veteran who earned two battle stars while serving his country. Lawrence had worked for the Central Vermont/Canadian National Railroad for 45 years. He enjoyed watching sports, big band era music, gardening, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was a devoted husband and father.

He is survived by 3 daughters; Diane Rooney and companion, Louise Piche of Shelburne, Connie Graziano-Burns and husband David Burns of Carriere, MS and Mary Cassell and husband Tom Cassell of Wethersfield, CT, 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He provided a loving father presence to many in his life, especially his nieces Diane Stringham and Cheryl Thomas, and nephew Alan Harrington. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Irene Graziano in 2013, 3 sisters and 4 brothers.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., Friday, July 3, 2015 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bethel with Rev. Andrew Benrowicz officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, Bethel. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Day Funeral Home, Randolph. Memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allen Brook Ln., Williston, VT 05495.

JOHN R. PALMER
(Died June 24, 2015)
U.S. Veteran

Randolph - John R. Palmer, 70, died Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.

He was born January 11, 1945 in Watertown, NY the son of Herbert and Ida (Richardson) Palmer.

John was raised in Massena, NY and graduated from Massena Central High School in 1963. He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967. Following his honorable discharge from the service he attended Onondaga Community College, in Syracuse, NY, earning an Associate in Science degree in Police Science in 1970. He then attended the State University of New York, College at Buffalo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Police Administration & Management in 1971. In 1972 John joined the Vermont State Police. He was stationed in St. Johnsbury from 1972-1976. From 1976-1977 he was stationed in Hardwick and from 1977-1995 he was stationed in Bethel retiring in 1995 as a Senior Sergeant-Patrol Commander. He was married to Katherine Knapp and they were later divorced. He was married to Edith (Smith) Vorce August 10, 1991 in Randolph. John enjoyed fishing and boating.

He is survived by his wife Edith Palmer of Randolph, 2 daughters; Kimberly Blume of Honolulu, HI and Jill Palmer of Oak Harbor, WA, a son Jeffrey Palmer of Wilson, WY, 2 step-sons; Saige Vorce of Randolph and Kade Vorce of Barre, a step-daughter Stace Vorce of Randolph, a brother Robert Palmer of Nashua, NH and 10 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 14th at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

THE REV. NORMAN R. RUNNION
(October 14, 1929 - June 19, 2015)

Brookfield, VT - The Rev. Norman Ray Runnion, 85, of Brookfield, died Friday, June 19, 2015 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT.

He was born on Oct. 14, 1929, in Kansas City, MO., the son of Winifred and Ray Runnion. His father was an editor and writer who worked for newspapers in Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago. Norman graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1951. His first job was at the City News Bureau of Chicago, a legendary training ground for young reporters covering Chicago crime stories who worked six days a week and long hours for $25 a week in pay. He joined the United Press in New York in 1953 and was assigned to the London and Paris bureaus. There he covered the Cold War, the election of John F. Kennedy to the White House and the arrival of “Camelot.” He served through 12 presidencies. As one of the bureau’s primary writers, he dealt with such historic events as the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis, and above all else the assassination of the President. He moved to Vermont in 1966, and after serving as Director of Public Relations at Windham College, he joined the Brattleboro Reformer. He was appointed Managing Editor of the Reformer in 1971, a position he held until 1989, when he enrolled at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria VA, a leading Episcopal Seminary. He was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1993, and he served as Rector of Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church in Fairlee, VT, for 8 years, when he retired. In his retirement he served as interim pastor the East Brookfield Congregational Church. He was also a columnist and Montpelier reporter for the Herald of Randolph. In 1994 he received the Yankee Quill Award from the New England Newspaper and Press Association, which honors achievement and distinction in New England Journalism. He was elected a Fellow of the Vermont Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997. He also served on the board of the Vermont Community Loan Fund; he was a Justice of the Peace in the Town of Brookfield as well. Publications include Gemini: America's historic walk in space.[ Co-authored with Alvin B. Webb, Jr. and H. D. Quigg in 1965], and Up the Ivy Ladder, published in 1969. One of his sermons from St. Martin’s was included in Preaching thought the year of Mark, Sermons that Work (VIII) published in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, a son, David of Brattleboro, and three stepchildren. He did NOT enjoy hunting or fishing.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, July 8th at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Randolph, VT. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Gifford Medical Center, Last Mile Ride Fund, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, VT 05060.

JEAN MARIE WHITE
(January 30, 1958 - June 15, 2015)

Bethel, VT - JEAN MARIE WHITE, 57, of Bethel, died peacefully, Monday, June 15, 2015 at her home.

She was born January 30, 1958 in Burlington, VT; the daughter of Charles N. & Jacquelyn (Larmie) Blow. She was graduated from Whitcomb High School and was a lifetime Bethel resident. Jean was married to Harold White in Bethel on August 11, 1990. She was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Bethel, and enjoyed rughooking, and playing bingo and yahtzee.

Survivors include her daughter, Heather White of Chicopee, MA; son, Gregory White and fiancé Jessica Pirani of Bethel, sister, Rebecca Baslow of Bethel; brothers, Roger Blow and wife, Christine of Brookfield, Charles Logan and wife, Sandra of Colchester, CT, and David Logan and wife, Heather of Illinois; mother, Jackie Logan and companion, Robert Hitt of Randolph. She was predeceased by her sister, Scarlet Blow, and brother, Ralph Blow.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00am Friday, June 19th at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with private family burial rites following at Ranney cemetery in Stockbridge. A reception will follow in the Community Room at the Randolph House. Contributions in her memory may be made to Gifford Medical Center Last Mile Ride, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, VT 05060, or to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street #501, Boston, MA 02210.
