KENT J. BATCHELLER
(June 17, 1935 - October 9, 2014)
Bethel, VT - Kent J. Batcheller, 79, from Bethel, Vermont passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 9th, 2014. Kent and his wife Mary Ann, had just returned from a journey to Montana and were staying with family in Lexington, MA. Early the next morning, Kent was rushed to the E.R. at Leahy Clinic Hospital in nearby Burlington, MA where he was diagnosed with a catastrophic brain hemorrhage. He passed away peacefully a few hours later with his wife and daughters by his side.
Kent was born in Cambridge, MA on June 17th, 1935 to Hugh and Jean Batcheller of Newton, MA. Kent attended school in Newton Highlands and graduated from Chauncey Hall in Copley Square. He later went to Babson College where he received a business degree in 1958. He travelled Europe before accepting positions with Kent Manufacturing and other family businesses he managed with his father. During his professional career, Kent designed and patented numerous electrical connectors, switches and devices used for household appliances, auto and military purposes, many of which are still in use today. In 1965 he married
Mary Ann Melanson and they settled in Westwood, MA where they had three children - Holly, Alyson and Brad. In 1975, Kent and Mary Ann relocated to the family farm in Vermont where they focused on raising their young children. Additionally, Kent applied his energies to outdoor activities such gardening, golfing, snowmobiling, skiing, sugaring and cutting wood. An avid reader of history and religious books, Kent also enjoyed cooking and watching sunsets, whether at home in Vermont, in Anna Maria Island FL where they wintered, or in far flung locations his family would convince him to visit. Kent was active in his hometown of Bethel, where he was a member in the Church, Masons and Bethel Town Committees. Those who knew Kent will remember him as a true gentleman and a ‘good man’, a loving father, grandfather and husband.
Kent is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of Bethel, VT and his three children Holly Batcheller Kemp and husband Craig, of Whitefish, MT, Alyson Babson and husband Ossie, of Lexington, MA, and Bradford Batcheller and wife Naomi, living in the Middle East. Kent also leaves 6 grandchildren who he adored and enjoyed looking after, all girls - Maya, Maggie, Sienna, Carrie, Charlotte and Eliza.
Memorial Services will be held at 11am Wednesday, October 15th at the United Church of Bethel, VT with Pastor Thomas Harty, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery. There are no calling hours. Day Funeral Home of Randolph is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Teammaggie.org (Cystic Fibrosis) or the Bethel Food Shelf.
ROY ALBERT LYON
(Died October 6, 2014)

Brookfield - Roy Albert Lyon, 42, died unexpectedly, Monday, October 6, 2014 in Bethel.
He was born October 27, 1971 in Holden, MA the son of Roger and Sally (Arbogast) Lyon.
Roy attended West Boylston (MA) schools and graduated from West Boylston High School in 1990. Following his education he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps serving from 1990-1994. After receiving an honorable discharge from the service he worked as a telecommunications technician at Point to Point Communications in Methuen, MA. He later worked at Cable Systems in North Haven, CT. He was married
to Julie Kampen August 21, 1999 in Middletown, CT. They moved to Warren, VT in 2000 where Roy continued working as a telecommunications technician for Lightship Telecom in Burlington. The Lyons moved to Brookfield in 2001. Roy enjoyed skiing, snow shoeing and hiking. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children.
He is survived by his wife Julie Lyon, 2 sons; Seth and Trevor Lyon all of Brookfield, his parents Roger and Sally Lyon of Lawrence, MA, a sister Ruth Ann Sullivan and husband Sean of Montpelier, a brother Fred Lyon of Lawrence, MA and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 13th at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Chapel in Randolph Center with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family for an educational fund to be established for his sons.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph.
PATRICIA RUTH GORDON
(January 25, 1931 - October 3, 2014)
Gaysville, VT - PATRICIA RUTH GORDON, 83, of Gaysville, died Friday, October 3, 2014 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born January 25, 1931 in New Jersey; the daughter of W. James and Melba (Hodges) Barrett. She was raised in New Jersey and moved to Gaysville from there in 1991. Patricia was married
to Duane B. Gordon, Sr. on July 21, 1951 in Wanaque, NJ. She had worked for Aircraft Radio in Boonton, NJ, then Russ Berrie Stuffed Animals in Oakland, NJ. In Vermont she had worked at Eaton’s Sugarhouse and Stockbridge Elementary School Cafeteria. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing boggle with her beloved friends, Annie and Mildred, and watching television game shows.
Survivors include her sons, Duane B. Gordon, Jr., of Theodore, Alabama, Glenn R. Gordon of Killington, and Gerard C. Gordon of West Milford, NJ; daughters, Patricia A. Dykeman of Gaysville, Karen S. Walgren of Ephrata, PA, and Janice M. Gallandt of Brookfield; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with another one expected next April. She was predeceased by her husband in 2009, and by sisters, Myrtle Nycz, Melba Busse and Jean Neisner.
Calling hours are from 6:00-8:00pm Sunday, Oct. 5th with a funeral service starting at 7:00pm at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, with Pastor Thomas Harty, officiating. Graveside Services will be at 2:00pm Monday, Oct. 6th at Evergreen cemetery in Pine Plains, NY. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Gaysville Community Church, P.O. GERARD "GG" LaROCQUE
(Died September 25, 2014)
Brookfield - Gerard “GG” LaRocque, 76, of West St., Brookfield, passed away from a sudden illness Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
Born June 1, 1938 in Randolph, VT the son of Adam and Enneme (Lamontagne) LaRocque.
GG Married Melanie Chase on November 26, 1960 and he lived in Brookfield most of his life.
GG worked 43 years, starting in 1956 for the Central Vermont Railway and the New England Central Railway, retiring in 1999. In earlier days, after putting in a full day’s work on the railroad, he would spend hours thawing frozen water pipes for the Town of Randolph. He also filled his spare time steam cleaning the vacuum pipes for a few local friends dairy farms. He enjoyed winter and plowing at least 22 driveways in the winter months. For the past 16 years GG mowed the roadside for the Town of Brookfield.
GG loved being on his tractor rototilling and brush hogging for people around town. He also did caretaking of homes for several people in the area. Hel always enjoyed stopping by friend’s homes or work to visit and catch up on the local “happenings” of the town. He enjoyed having his family visits, especially the little ones as they were the apple of his eye.
Survived by his wife Melanie of 54 years, daughters Paula and her companion Keith Washburn, Cathy and her husband Mike MacRitchie, son Dennis and his companion Emily Noyes, 8 grandchildren, Amanda (Tylor) Rancourt, Nikki, Erin and Elizabeth Saldi, Kyle LaRocque, Taylor MacRitchie, Beckett and Boden Noyes, 4 great-grandchildren Eli Saldi, Violet and Warden Rancourt and Bently LaRocque, sister Jeannine and husband Gordon Murphy and a brother Fernand LaRocque, numerous nieces, nephews and brother and sister-in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers John and Roger LaRocque.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, October 3, 2014 from noon-4pm at his home 2294 West St., Brookfield, VT 05036. The sharing of GG’s life will begin at 2:00 pm.

DANIEL CARL SATRE
(February 4, 1971 - September 21, 2014)
Ballston Spa, NY - DANIEL CARL SATRE, 43, formerly of Randolph, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 in New York.
He was born February 4, 1971 in Burlington, VT; the son of John J. and Lois A. (Mears) Satre. He graduated from Randolph Union High School in 1989 and received his Associates degree in Business from Mitchell College in Connecticut. He had lived in Randolph until 1991 then in Albany, NY and Ballston Spa, NY. He was a gifted salesperson and owned and operated a screen printing and embroidery business. A member of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, he enjoyed golfing and playing baseball and rugby, and was an avid Yankees fan.
Survivors include his mother, Lois Christie and her husband, Jerry of North Randolph; father, John J. Satre of Tunbridge; daughter, Amanda Gerstenmaier of Randolph; son, John Patrick Linehan of Cork, Ireland; brother, Wayne Satre of Randolph; step-sister, Patty Christie-Dean of Maryland; step-brother, Jeffrey Christie of Pennsylvania; grandfather, Walter Satre of Edison, NJ; companion, Mila Mihaylova of Ballston Spa, NY; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, Sept. 27th at Green Mountain Gospel Chapel in Randolph, VT, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling, officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Center cemetery. Calling hours are from 6:00-8:00pm Friday at the Day Funeral Home. Contributions in his memory may be made to an educational fund for Daniel’s son, c/o Green Mountain Gospel Chapel.
LOREN E. MONTGOMERY
(Died June 19, 2016)

Randolph - Loren E. Montgomery, 90, died Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Berlin Health & Rehabilitation Center in Berlin.
He was born April 25, 1926 in Randolph the son of Jenness and Marion Annis (Brown) Montgomery.
Loren attended Braintree and Randolph schools. Following his education he served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees during WW II. After an honorable discharge from the service he returned home and worked on the Montgomery Farm in W. Braintree. Loren was married
to Anna Mae Battles July 18, 1946 in Braintree. They moved to the Battles Farm where he worked for several years. He then went to work for W.B. Rogers Construction Co. for many years before going to work at Rodco in Randolph. He later worked as a logger for several years and then drove truck for Pouliot & Corriveau until retiring in 1996. Loren was married
to Blanche Brown June 27, 1981 in Derby. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and was an avid Red Sox fan. He served as 2nd Constable for the Town of Braintree for several years.
He is survived by his wife Blanche Montgomery of Randolph, 3 daughters; Cherolyn Stimmel and husband Phil of Brattleboro, Amy Degnan and husband Jim of Randolph and Julie Kinney and husband Stuart of Braintree, a son Chris Montgomery and wife Amy of Cambridge, 2 step-daughters; Mary Pierson and husband Gary of Claremont, NH and Joan Durkee of Braintree, a brother Richard Montgomery and wife Ruth of Aylett, VA, 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Anna Mae Montgomery in 1975 and a grandson Justin Kinney.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 18th at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery, Randolph Center with Pastor Thomas Harty officiating. There are no calling hours.

DAVID C. MILES
(August 15, 1959 - June 9, 2016)
DAVID C. MILES, 56, of Randolph, VT, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 9th, 2016.
David was born August 15th, 1959 in Chester, PA; the son of L. William and Patricia (MacMorran) Miles. He grew up in Weston, CT, where he met and later married
his high school sweetheart, Joan Miles, on October 1st, 1983.
David raised his family, whom he loved dearly, in Newtown, CT before fulfilling a lifelong dream of moving to Vermont in 2010. David attended Castleton State College, ultimately receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairfield University. After spending the early part of his career designing security systems, he pursued a degree in teaching - which he passionately applied towards working with students at Randolph Union High School and Williamstown High School in Vermont.
David put forth the same enthusiasm and dedication he showed for teaching towards other pursuits, serving as Chair of the Randolph Planning Commission and as a representative of Randolph’s Design Review Board. In his free time, he loved playing golf, camping, hiking, history and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Miles of Randolph, VT; sons, Tyler Miles and his wife, Kristyn of Barrington, NH and Jordan Miles of Nanjing, China; daughter, Devon Miles of Norwalk, CT; brothers, Michael Miles of Greenwich, CT and Daniel Miles of Weston, CT; sisters, Janice Miles-Dunn of Fairfield, CT and Tricia Pereira of Redding, CT; grandchildren, Greyson and Remington Miles. In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his brother, William Miles.
