BETTIE P. JONES
(April 29, 1924 - September 6, 2014)

Randolph, VT - BETTIE P. JONES, 90, of Randolph, died Saturday morning, September 6, 2014 at her home.

She was born April 29, 1924 in Springfield, MO; the daughter of Lee and Leola (LaClair) Potter. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and came to Vermont after her military service. She attended Lyndon State Teachers College and moved to Oregon in 1963, where she received her Master’s degree in Eduation from University of Oregon. She taught elementary school in Oregon until retiring in 1986. Bettie was an ASA and USSSA softball umpire for twenty years, and was inducted into Oregon’s Umpire Hall of Fame. She walked in all fifty states and Canada and Mexico, and was a member of the American Volksports Association, the Willamette Valley Walkabouts and Silverton Walkabouts.

Survivors include her companion, Beth Wood of Randolph; daughters, Debbie Briggs of Pownal, VT, Vicki Mattison of Pompano Beach, FL, and Verna Brownell of Lincoln, NE; son, Daniel Jones of Corvallis, OR; sister, Ronnie Fowler of MO; 7 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Audrey, Alberta and Mary.

Graveside Memorial Services and Military honors will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, September 23rd at Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph, with Rev. Ronald E. Rilling, officiating. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home.

JOHN G. KINNEY
(Died September 11, 2014)

Brookfield - John G. Kinney, 63, died Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born December 1, 1950 in Randolph the son of Harold R. and Rebecca (Hutchinson) Kinney.

John attended Randolph schools and graduated from Randolph Union High School in 1969. Following his education John had numerous jobs including working as a car salesman for Valley Motors in Bethel and Ray Dodge Auto Sales in Randolph. He then worked as a truck driver for United Postal Service and later as a self employed truck driver. Later he worked as a real estate developer in Old Orchard Beach, ME. More recently he had worked as a logger and also worked in construction for Casella Construction. He was married to Joanne Simonds July 25, 2006 in Brookfield. John loved selling cars and also enjoyed doing yard work and flower gardening.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Kinney of Brookfield, his daughter Hayley Kinney of Randolph, 3 brothers; Craig Kinney of Bradford, Alan Kinney of Randolph and Stuart Kinney of Braintree, a sister Patricia Rogers of Balston Spa, NY and a granddaughter Vivian White. He was predeceased by his parents.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Potter’s Angels Rescue, PO Box 162, E. Randolph, VT 05041.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph.

TINA L. McCULLOUGH
(March 25, 1964 - September 16, 2014)

Royalton, VT - TINA L. McCULLOUGH, 50, of Royalton, died peacefully, Tuesday afternoon, September 16, 2014 at her home.

She was born March 25, 1964 in Randolph; the daughter of Mason and Rae (Adolph) Ferris. She was raised in Sharon and moved to Royalton in 1985. Tina was married to James McCullough in Bethel on October 12, 1985. She had worked at Tranquility Nursing Home in Randolph, and did private home care. She had attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Miller Memorial Methodist Church in Bethel. She enjoyed gardening, horseback riding, and her animals.

Survivors include her husband, James McCullough; sons Rupert McCullough and Dylan McCullough, all of Royalton; sister, Toni Morgan and husband, Matt of Anthrim, NH; brother, Toby Ferris and wife, Marie of South Royalton; parents, Mason and Rae Ferris of Sharon; three grandchildren, Colton, Jackson and Amara.

A private gathering will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Norris Cotton Cancer Research Fund, Dartmouth Medical Center, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756. CLARENCE G. BETTIS
(August 8, 1954 - September 16, 2014)
U.S. Veteran

Rutland, VT - CLARENCE G. BETTIS, 60, of Rutland, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born August 8, 1954 in Randolph; the son of Clarence D. and Lucelia (Lewis) Bettis. He had served in the Army National Guard and lived most of his life in Hancock and Rochester, briefly in Titusville, Fl, settling in Rutland in 2009. He had worked at Round Top Ski Area and for Chesapeake Products in Hancock. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching NASCAR races.

Survivors include his companion, Donna Curavoo of Rutland; brothers, Everett Bettis of Hancock, Ralph Bettis of Florida, Gordon Bettis of Rutland, Edward Bettis of Mansfield, OH and Larry Bettis of Hancock; sisters, Luella DeMars of Cornish, NH, Thelma Boutwell of Tobaccoville, NC and Trudy Bettis of Mebane, NC. He was predeceased by his brothers, Elmer, Mervin and Russell Bettis.

A memorial gathering and reception will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, September 27th at the Hancock Town Hall. There are no calling hours. Contributions in his memory may be made to Gifford Medical Center, Last Mile Ride, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, VT 05060 or to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress Street, 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210.

JEREMIAH KEVIN FLYNN
(July 20, 1945 - September 17, 2014)

Bethel, VT - JEREMIAH KEVIN FLYNN, 69, of Bethel, died Wednesday morning, September 17, 2014 at Gifford Medical Center.

He was born July 20, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY; the son of Jeremiah F. and Rita (Lynch) Flynn. He was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Holy Cross University and Fordham University where he received his Master’s degree in Social Work. Jeremiah had lived in Nanuet, NY and Pine Bush, NY before moving to Bethel in 2006. He was a counselor in social work, specializing in high risk youth. He enjoyed writing, reading, and had a deep appreciation for music.

Survivors include his daughter, Emily Miles of New York, NY; sister, Deborah Folsom of Maine, and companion Theodora Danforth.

A memorial gathering was held Sunday, September 21st at Peavine Park in Bethel. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Susan Cohan Colon Cancer Research Foundation, 201 N. Charles Street #2404, Baltimore, MD 21201 or to the Gifford Medical Center, Last Mile Ride Fund, P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, VT 05060.

THE REV. LEE DEVOE GREINER
(May 29, 1959 - October 18, 2014)

BETHEL - The Rev. Lee Devoe Greiner, 55, of Bethel died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born May 29, 1959, in Riverhead, NY, the middle daughter of Arthur and Ann Greiner. She grew up in Cornwall, Montpelier and Middlebury, Vt., and graduated from Middlebury Union High School in 1977. She attended Middlebury College, and, after her senior year, married Don Burns, who also attended Middlebury. They settled in Bridport, Vt., and had three children, Jamaica, Ben and Eliza. In 1991, Lee and her children moved to Berkeley, Calif., where she earned a Master of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion, and she began her career as a Unitarian Universalist minister. She interned in Golden, Colo., completed her chaplaincy in Albuquerque, NM, and then became the first full-time minister at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Lee went on to serve churches in Ottawa, Ontario, Augusta, Maine, Kansas City, Mo, and Norwich, Vt., usually as an interim minister, which became her specialty. Her career was cut short due to her health, but she continued to preach as a guest minister at several other Vermont churches, often speaking of her experience with cancer. Lee was ordained at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society in Middlebury, a congregation she remained a part of since its beginning. She was active in the national Unitarian Universalist Association, and helped develop its policy on ethical eating and humane treatment of animals. She was also active in regional ministerial groups and the Interim Ministers Guild. Upon returning to Vermont, Lee bought a home high on Bethel Mountain with grounds covered in flowers, fruits and vegetables, an environment she considered good for the soul. Her daughter, Eliza, lived with her for the past two years, and her other daughter, Jamaica, and her family lived a short walk away. She was determined to see the birth of her first grandchild. Skye Devoe Griffin was born in November 2013, and she delighted in caring for him throughout her illness. Lee was a lifelong learner, studying Arabic in Morocco, and Sufism in Turkey. She accumulated a vast library of books on religion, spirituality and travel. She loved the water, especially Silver Lake in Barnard and Green River Reservoir in Morrisville.

She is survived by her three children, Jamaica Burns Griffin and her husband, Ferron, and their son, Skye Devoe, all of Bethel; Ben Burns and his wife, Jennifer, of Brunswick, Maine; and Eliza Burns of Bethel and her sweetie, Dustin Jemmett of Idaho. She is also survived by her mother, Ann Brousseau of Middlebury, Vt.; two sisters, Michael Ann Greiner, her husband Jim Muller, and son David Glidden of Jericho, Vt., and Mary Conlon, her husband Peter, and their sons, Emerson, William and Silas of Cornwall, Vt.; and her step-mother, Joan Greiner of Middlebury.

A memorial service will be held at 5:00 P.M. November 7th at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society in Middlebury. Online condolences may be left at www.dayfunerals.com. COL. ALBERT J. KONDI
(November 19, 1934 - October 17, 2014)
U.S. Veteran

South Royalton, VT - ALBERT J. KONDI, 79, of South Royalton and Davidsonville, MD, died Friday evening, October 17, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

He was born November 19, 1934 in Budapest, Hungary; the son of Stephen and Alice (Pogany) Kondi. He moved from Hungary to Norwalk, CT at the age of one. Albert had a lifetime Military career and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and beyond, retiring as a Full Colonel. He had lived in Northfield where he graduated from Norwich University, then moved to Randolph in 1966, to Bethel in 1973, and to Maryland in 1980. He taught biology at Randolph Union High School and was a Physics Professor at Vermont Technical College where he helped start the college radio station and was advisor for the Radio Control Club and Archery Club. Albert then returned to Active duty with the U.S. Army at the Pentagon, where he was involved Computer Security. He was married to Margaret Jane Miller on November 19, 1956, then to Golda Guthrie Fisher in September of 1982. He had attended Bethany Church in Randolph, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodcarving, and making snow sculptures.

Survivors include his wife, Golda Guthrie-Kondi of South Royalton; sons, Stephen Kondi and wife, Gail of South Royalton, and David Kondi and wife, Rebecca of Canaan, NH; daughter, Barbara Montgomery and husband, Allen of Randolph; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Jane Miller.

Calling hours will be from 12:30pm-2:00pm Sunday, October 26th at the United Church of Bethel, where a funeral service will begin at 2:00pm. Private Burial will be at Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph Center. Contributions in his memory may be made to Norwich University, Northfield, VT 05663. BEATRICE GLORIA "Bea" BLAISDELL
(Died October 14, 2014)

Randolph - Beatrice Gloria “Bea” Blaisdell, 82, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at her home in Randolph.

She was born January 20, 1932 on Christian Hill in Bethel the daughter of Samuel and Emma (Wooley) Bowen.

Bea attended Lilliesville Elementary School in Bethel. She was married to Warren Blaisdell June 18, 1950 in Bethel. They lived in Braintree from 1950-1967 and moved to Peth Road in Randolph in 1967.Bea had worked at Tranquility Nursing Home in Randolph and at the Randolph Area Senior Center. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, birds and fishing. She was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph.

She is survived by 4 sons; Gilbert Blaisdell and wife Sarah of Howard, NY, Warren Blaisdell of Cedar Lake, MI, James Blaisdell of Randolph and John Blaisdell and wife Cathy of Randolph, 3 daughters; Susan Smith and husband Jeffery of Sterling, MA, Mary Fuller of Randolph, and Jane Blaisdell and fiancé Eric Cole of Buskirk, NY, a sister Ruby Clark of White River Jct., 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Warren Blaisdell, 2 sisters; Sarah Burham and Bertha Bowen and a brother Richard Bowen.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 18th at Bethany United Church of Christ, Randolph, with Pastor Betty Edson officiating. Burial will follow in the East Randolph cemetery. There are no calling hours.
