MICHAEL SCOTT SHUMWAY

MICHAEL SCOTT SHUMWAY I Barre - Michael S. Shumway, 56, died Sunday, February 8, 2015, at his home in Barre, after a long, brave battle with cancer. He was born in Lebanon, N.H., on December 4, 1958, son of Gordon & Joyce (Perkins) Shumway. Mike grew up in Canaan, N.H. and graduated from Mascoma High School in 1977. He worked as a diesel mechanic for many years, then as a burner technician for Agway Energy and Suburban Propane. He was married
to Jane Edmunds on March 15, 1986. They divorced 15 years later. He was well known as a practical joker and as a loyal friend who would drop whatever he was doing to help out someone in need. For Mike, strangers were just friends he had yet to meet. Mike was passionate about fishing and sports, including NASCAR, wrestling, the Red Sox, and especially the Patriots. In his final days he was heavily medicated and had difficulty staying awake, but he was alert and cheering as his beloved Patriots won the Superbowl! He is survived by his devoted fiancée, Debbie Paton of Barre, two sons, Michael Shumway II, and his wife, Samantha of South Royalton, and Mathew Shumway of Barre, four grandchildren, Lilliann, Cayden, Aubrey and Mason Shumway, all of South Royalton, his parents, Nelson & Joyce Gilman of Woodstock, four brothers, Donald Shumway of Canaan, Bradley Shumway of Corinth, Randy Hammond of Grantham and Jon Gilman of Wilder, four sisters, Sheila Davis & Wanda McMeans, both of South Royalton, Shelley Richer of Canaan, and Andrea Swanson of Derry, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 2000 and a sister, Karen Kearney, in 2001. In honor of Mike’s wishes, there will be no services. The family will gather to celebrate his life, at a later date. ELIZABETH "LIBBY" CHAMBERLAIN
(Died February 6, 2015)
Stockbridge, VT - ELIZABETH “LIBBY” SANFORD CHAMBERLAIN, 94, of Stockbridge, died Friday evening, Feb. 6, 2015, surrounded by her family at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born May 5, 1920 in Randolph; the daughter of Elmer M. “Shorty” and Mabel (Bennett) Sanford. She graduated from Randolph Graded-High School in 1938, and had worked at Hayward’s Diner, Belmains, and as an usher for the Randolph Movie Theatre. After WWII, she married
Donald Chamberlain of Stockbridge in 1946. Libby liked to travel with her husband, and loved having her family visit.
She is survived by her three sons, Ronald of Randolph, Michael and his wife, Beth of Woodstock, and Robert and his wife, Nancy of Stockbridge; sister, Evelyn Crate of Enfield, NH; four grandsons, one granddaughter, two great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 2005, and by brother Elmer Sanford.
Funeral Services will be announced in the Spring, with burial at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in Randolph Center. There are no calling hours. LO "CHUCK" W. HATCH

Randolph, VT - LO W. “CHUCK” HATCH, 92, of Randolph, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 at Menig Extended Care Facility in Randolph.
He was born January 15, 1923 in Randolph, VT; the son of Lo W. Hatch Sr., and Maud (Shaw) Hatch. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1941, and was married
to Margery Shirlock. He worked for Cone Automatic Machine Company in Windsor until beginning service in the U.S. Army AirCorps in 1943 during World War II. Following the war, he worked for Jones and Lamson Machine Company as a lathe operator for 34 years, until retiring in 1984. Chuck enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching professional sports, listening and dancing to Big Band and Jazz music, and ice skating.
Survivors include his wife, Margery Hatch of Randolph; daughter, Cynthia Hall and husband, Gordon of Orange, NH, son, Steve Hatch of Enfield, NH. He was predeceased by his brother, John Hatch and by sisters, Eleanor Race and Kathlyn Goodale.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, Feb. 14th at the Day Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Spring at Pleasant View cemetery. Contributions in his memory may be made to Alzheimers Disease Association, 300 Cornerstone Drive #128, Williston, VT 05495.
AVERY G. FLINT
(July 14, 1941 - January 30, 2015)
Randolph Center, VT - Avery G. Flint, 73, passed away peacefully Friday, January 30, 2015 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born July 14, 1941 in Randolph, the son of Grant and Lucy (Wakefield) Flint.
Avery attended elementary school in Braintree and High School in Randolph. Avery was a very hardworking and dedicated dairy farmer. He worked on many dairy farms before and after owning and operating the Flin-Dall Ranch in Braintree. Avery was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed reading his dairy journals. One of his favorite activities was looking out the window with anticipation, waiting to see what type of bird would land on the bird feeder.
Avery is survived by his companion of 30 years Janet Messier, seven children: Sylvia Hunt and husband Raymond Hunt, Melanie Nattress and husband Tom, Patricia Cook and husband David, Connie Smock, Richard Heller and wife Sheryl, Stephen Heller and wife Liesha, David Flint and friend Beth Godin, and four siblings: Addie Lamb, Helen Luther and her husband Tom, Rose Derrick and her husband Tom, Fred Flint and his wife Lillian, as well as his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Avery was also previously married
to Lyndell (Tabor) Davis and Carol (Derrick) Woods. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Gardner, brother-in law James Lamb, and sister-in-law Mary Flint.

HELEN COOK
(Died January 29, 2015)
Services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, Feb. 6th at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph for Helen Cook, 93 (formerly of Randolph and Montpelier) who died at her home in Myrtle Beach, SC on Jan. 29th, 2015. Anthony Woolford will officiate the service.
Born in Brookfield, VT on October 8, 1921, she was the daughter of Earl and Avis (Fullam) Blanchard. She married
Ronald Grassette in 1944. She was predeceased by him and also her second husband, Philip Cook, whom she married
in 1976. Helen moved to St. Albans after Philip’s death to live with her daughter and son-in-law and subsequently relocated with them to Myrtle Beach, SC in 2009. She was very fond of Myrtle Beach, as she and Philip had wintered there for many years.
Helen was a telephone operator for New England Telephone Company (later Verizon) for all of her working career. She enjoyed needle work, reading, flowers and visits with her neighbors. She most valued time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter Rhonda and son-in-law Michael Mercier of Myrtle Beach, SC., a step-daughter, Candis Young of Eden, Vt and a step-son Philip Cook Jr. of Georgia, VT., 3 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Blanchard and Perrie Blanchard and four sisters, Doris Tallman, Ruby Gray, Beatrice Blanchard and Phyllis Boudreau. She was also predeceased by her step-son John Cook of Nebraska.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be at a later date in the Berlin Corners cemetery, Berlin, VT.
KENISTON PETER MERRILL
(Died January 26, 2015)

WOODSTOCK - Keniston P. Merrill, 78 died peacefully with his family beside him after a long illness on January 26 in Woodstock, Vermont.
He was born August 14, 1936 in Worcester, Massachusetts, the only son of George K. and Marie P. Merrill. Ken graduated from Hamden High School in New Haven, Connecticut in 1954. He attended Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated in 1958 with a BA in English Literature and Economics. He subsequently went on to earn his Masters in Business Administration in 1960 from New York University.
Ken was married
to Carol J. Martin of North Haven, Connecticut on June 27, 1959. They lived in Armonk New York and later moved to Ridgefield, Connecticut where they lived until 1982. That year they moved to Vermont and settled in Randolph where they lived until 2013. In 2013, they moved to Blake Hill Road in Woodstock, Vermont.
Ken worked as a financial analyst for TIAA-CREF in New York City from 1957-1964. In 1965, he joined The Five Arrow’s Fund as a financial analyst. Five Arrows later became New Court Securities and then Rothschild, Inc. where Ken rose to Managing Director. In 1982, Ken left Rothschild and joined National Life Insurance Company in Montpelier, Vermont as Chief Investment Officer and President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of National Life Investment Management Company where he was responsible for managing the Sentinel family of mutual funds. Ken retired in 1997.
Ken remained active after his retirement serving on a number of local and non-profit boards, including Cardigan Mountain School, The Episcopal Archdiocese of Vermont, Central Vermont Hospital, where he served as Chairman for three years, Vermont Law School, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital (now Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center) where he chaired the investment committee and the New England Culinary Institute Scholarship Fund.
Ken was a cigar aficionado, a wine connoisseur, a food critic and a voracious reader of all genres. He was a loyal fan of Trinity College Football and the New York Yankees, Giants and Rangers. He had a life-long passion for jazz music amassing an impressive collection of LP’s and jazz recordings. His parents worked for the New Haven railroad and instilled in Ken a life-long passion for locomotives, railroads and model trains. He loved Vermont, and particularly enjoyed watching the seasons change from his home and office at Brainstorm Farm.
Ken is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 56 years Carol, his sons Peter, 53 of Morrisville, Vermont and Andrew, 51 of Rowayton, Connecticut, their wives Harriette (Bunny) and Erica and his five grandchildren Hanna, George, Hadley, Thorn and Sam. The family wishes to thank the staff of Woodstock Terrace and Vermont Hospice for their kindness, their extraordinary care and their enormous compassion.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, February 7th at St. John's Episcopal Church in Randolph. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in Ken's memory may be made to Norris Cotton Cancer Center or The Memory Clinic for Alzheimer's research at Dartmoth Hitchcock Medical Center. One Medical Center Dr., Lebanon, NH 03756.

BARBARA DAY LINDQUIST
(March 13, 1926 - January 24, 2015)
Randolph, VT - BARBARA DAY LINDQUIST, 88, of Randolph, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Joslyn House.
She was born March 13, 1926 in Springfield, MA; the daughter of Albert E. and Ola M. (Watts) Day. She graduated from Randolph High School in 1944, and from the Wilfred Academy of Hair & Beauty Culture in Boston, MA in 1945. She was married
to Irwin M. Lindquist in 1945, and was a hairdresser with Rita Allen in Randolph. Barbara was a member of the United Church of Randolph where she served as Blood Drive Chairperson. She enjoyed scrapbooking, cooking, collecting Randolph High School yearbooks and travelling.
Survivors include her son, Randal G. Lindquist of Bourne, MA; daughters, Bonnie Osmer of Orford, NH and Cindy Leduc of Loudon, NH; sister, Marietta Day Wells of Brookfield, MA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Irwin in 1998, and by her brother, Russell A. Day.

"DANI" DOROTHY GENE WILSON
(Died January 18, 2015)
Bethel - “Dani” Dorothy Gene Wilson passed away unexpectedly Sunday, January 18, 2015.
She was born April 26, 1947 to Rodman and Mary Wilson of Bethel.
She graduated from Whitcomb High School and married
Eddie Bettis and they had one daughter, Leisa Bettis who survives. She is also survived by her companion Jim Pirani and his son Andy, her sister Donna Whitney of Chester and her two children, a cousin Harrison DeHaven as well as her close friends.
Dani was a lover of nature and animals especially her cats, horses and her dog Fawny. She was a good gardener as her flower gardens prove. Her inside plants were beautiful and she enjoyed them so much.
Dani lived her life on Christian Hill living on the “home place” which she loved.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
