SAMUEL IZZO
April 17, 1926 - December 22, 2013
Randolph, VT - SAMUEL IZZO, 87, of Randolph, died Sunday, December 22, 2013 at Gifford Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1926 in Bethel; the son of Dominic and Mary (Ansara) Ezzo. He graduated from Whitcomb High School in 1944, and lived in Bethel until moving to Waterbury in 1962. He lived there until moving to Milton in 1966, where he lived until settling in Randolph in 1969. He served in the U.S. Army AirForce during World War II. Samuel had worked for Central Vermont Railroad from 1946-1986 as Superintendent of Track and Structures, and as a mechanic for Rudy Martin and Bob Dean’s Garage in Bethel from 1953-1962. Samuel was married
to Irene Ballou in Randolph on January 31, 1953. He was a member of the American Legion in Bethel and Randolph, and was the emcee for the Hill Top Cloggers Group that his wife performs with. Following retirement, he was a consultant for Sprint’s fiber optic cable installation project, then as a railroad consultant for OMNI. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, raising pigs and turkeys, gardening, deer hunting, and road trips in the Fall, especially to Nashville and Branson. After retirement, he became skilled at sewing.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Izzo of Randolph; sons, Stephen Izzo of Pensacola, FL, Scott Izzo of Pittsburgh, PA, Michael Izzo and his partner, Richard Reidy of Randolph, and Anthony Izzo of Randolph; step-daughter, Pearl King of PA; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his ten brothers and sisters.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am Saturday, Dec. 28th at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Bethel, with Rev. Soosai Raj, officiating. Burial will be in the Spring at Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph. Calling hours are from 6:00-8:00pm Friday at the Day Funeral Home. WINNIFRED E. ISAACSON
May 23, 1925 - December 30, 2013
Hancock, VT - WINNIFRED E. ISAACSON, 88, of Hancock, died Monday afternoon, December 30, 2013 at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.
She was born on May 23, 1925 in Wichita, KS; the daughter of William and Agnes (Lyman) Hyatt. Raised in Wichita, she attended Wichita University, and was married
to Sidney Isaacson on July 5, 1946 in Hoosick Falls, NY. Winnifred came to Hancock from Long Beach, Long Island, New York in 1953, and was a sculptor, wood carver and water color artist. She enjoyed reading and studying her Native American heritage, and was a member of the Rochester Art Guild and Quin Town Senior Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Miller of Rochester, and Rose Ellen Carter of Freeport, L.I., NY; sons, Clay Canfield and John Isaacson, both of Hancock, Paul Isaacson of Beverly Hills, CA, M. Julien Isaacson of Stockbridge, and Robert B. Isaacson of Nashville, TN; sister, Margaret Bush of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband in 1982, and by brothers, Richard Hyatt and Lyman Hyatt.
A summer memorial service will be announced at a later date. There are no calling hours. DONALD F. FLYNN
(August 26, 1933 - September 8, 2014)
Pittsfield, VT - Donald F. Flynn passed away on September 8, 2014, due to complications of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS). Born on August 26, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, Don leaves behind a sister, Kathleen Fisher and brother-in-law, Harris Freihon, of San Diego, CA; his children, Sharon A. Flynn of San Francisco, CA; Michael F. Flynn of San Mateo, CA; Linda T. Flynn and her husband Keith Douglas of Wilton Manors, FL; and Donna K. Flynn and her husband David G. Nitsch of Nederland, CO; and a granddaughter, Elysia S. Nitsch, also of Nederland, CO.
Don grew up in Brooklyn and Matawan, New Jersey. He attended Rutgers University, paying his way by working in a local factory. He received an M.A. in Hospital Administration in 1959 from Iowa State University and spent nine years working with the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) and living in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. He met his wife, Sara C. Blaylock, in Dhahran just before he was due to return to the U.S., and proposed to her after a whirlwind romance of 6 weeks. Don and Sara were married
in Rome, Italy, and stayed in Saudi Arabia for several more years where they expanded their family by four.
The family returned to the U.S. in 1969 after buying a house in Pittsfield, Vermont, through the mail and sight unseen. The family lived in Vermont and New York and Don began the second phase of his career as an international consultant working on health care facilities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the U.S. In 1978, the family moved to Brussels, Belgium, where Don worked as a Health Systems Planner with the Eurosystem Health Consortium. He spent 17 years living and working in Brussels.
Don and Sara retired to Pittsfield, Vermont and Don began his third career working with the Town of Pittsfield. He led the coordination of the 9-1-1 system in Pittsfield working with the State of Vermont and local residents to sort out road names and addresses, and he was a member of the town’s Lister team. Most recently, Don facilitated government buyouts for residents in Pittsfield who lost their home to Tropical Storm Irene, and his family fondly calls him Mr. FEMA. After a 6-week courtship and 47 years of marriage, Don was widowed in 2008 when Sara was lost to a prolonged battle with colon cancer.
A simple graveside service was held in the Pittsfield Village cemetery on Saturday, September 13th. Mike Flynn read a poem “The Day God called you home”. Remembrances were shared by Sharon Flynn and Linda Flynn. A reception followed at the Pittsfield Town Hall. RICHARD J. "DICK" YOUNG
(Died February 14, 2015)

Braintree - Richard J. “Dick” Young, 75, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born February 8, 1940 in Barre the son of Joseph D. and Eunice (Rollins) Young.
Dick attended Barre and Montpelier schools. Following his education he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957-1959. He was married
to Mertha Jean Kibodeaux February 28, 1959. The Youngs had lived in Texas until moving back to Vermont in 1971. Dick worked as a small engine mechanic at several companies in the central Vermont area from 1971 until his retirement. He was married
to Edith Oakes October 18, 1985 in Randolph. He was a member of the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel where he served as an Elder, Tres Dias, the Randolph Village Fire Department for 20 years and was their first chaplain, and was a volunteer chaplain at Gifford Medical Center. He enjoyed playing guitar and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Edie Young of Braintree, 3 daughters; Eunice Salls of Barre, Catherine Blaisdell and Mary Small both of Randolph, a son Thomas Young of Braintree, a step-daughter Sue St. Peter of Randolph, a step-son Timothy Oakes of E. Corinth, 7 brothers, 3 sisters, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Mertha Jean Young in 1984.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 18th at the Green Mountain Gospel Chapel (Rte. 66 Randolph). Burial with military honors will be in Pleasant View cemetery, Randolph, at a later date. Calling hours will be Tuesday evening, February 17th, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the church.

NANCY T. FAY
(Died February 12, 2015)
Stockbridge - Nancy T. Fay, 52, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born June 23, 1962 in Randolph the daughter of Frank A. Sr. and Joyce E. (Brown) Twitchell.
Nancy attended Rochester schools and graduated from Rochester High School in 1980. She was married
to Terry T. Fay August 29, 1981 in Bethel. She had worked at Waterbury Plastics in Randolph, Oatmeal Studios in Rochester for several years and later at G.W. Plastics as a Quality Control Inspector. The Fays had lived in Texas from 1992-1996 then lived in Tucson, AZ from 1996-2000 at which time they moved back to Stockbridge to be closer to her family. She was a member of the National Rifle Assoc. Nancy enjoyed Native American history, art and jewelry. She also enjoyed reading, planting and growing flowers, camping, cooking, motorcycle riding and traveling and visiting new places (she had visited 47 states). She especially enjoyed being with her family and caring for her husband.
She is survived by her husband Terry T. Fay of Stockbridge, her parents Frank and Joyce Twitchell, Sr. of Rochester, a brother Frank and wife Geraldine Twitchell, Jr. of Hancock, 2 sisters; Evelyn Terrien and husband Kenny of Rochester and Julie Taylor and husband Steve of Rochester, 2 nieces; Kimberly Taylor and Hillary Fay and 2 nephews; Landon Taylor and Douglas Fay, Terry's three brothers and their wives, Joel and Mary, Bill and Jean and Jeff and Marjorie all of Vermont were also specially loved by her. Her very special love was her little dog Abby who provided her the warmth of the special bond only a mother can provide to her children.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring at a date and time to be announced later.

ELIZABETH ROSE PEPER
(Died February 11, 2015)
Randolph - Elizabeth Rose Peper, 94, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born August 29, 1920 in Spring Valley, NY, the daughter of Richard and Rosina (Honeychurch) Chirgwin.
Rose attended Spring Valley (NY) schools and graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Nyack Hospital in New York. She was married
to Arthur Peper November 13, 1948 in Spring Valley, NY. The Pepers moved to Randolph in 1963. Rose later worked with her husband serving as Vice President of ACRRO Machine Co. in Wilder, VT. She had resided at the Windover House in Randolph for the past 4 years. Her memberships included; Bethany United Church of Christ, Randolph Club 76’ers, Gifford Medical Center Auxiliary, Antique Motorcycle Club of America and the Ex-Prisoners of War Vermont Chapter 1. Rose enjoyed square dancing, quilting and traveling. In earlier years she had been a Girl Scout Troop Leader.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Peper of White River Jct. and her son Richard Peper of Northboro, MA. She was predeceased by her husband in 2011.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, February 19th at Bethany United Church of Christ, Randolph with Pastor Betty Edson officiating. There are no calling hours. Private burial will be at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery, Randolph Center, at a later date.

GERALD W. "JERRY" BURNHAM
(November 1, 1947 - February 9, 2015)
Randolph, VT - GERALD W. “JERRY” BURNHAM, 67, of Randolph, died Monday night, Feb. 9, 2014 at Gifford Medical Center.
He was born November 1, 1947 in Randolph; the son of Earl R. and Cathleen (Martell) Burnham. He attended Norwich Elementary School and Hanover High School and moved back to Randolph in 1965. Gerald had worked as a machinist for Ethan Allen Furniture Manufacturing in Randolph for 21 years, retiring in 1991. He was married
to Gail Thurston in 1971 and was a member of the United Church of Randolph.
Survivors include his daughters, Jennifer Burnham of Randolph and Lisa Burnham of Knoxville, TN; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. He was predeceased by his wife, Gail Thurston, and by a sister and brother.
Memorial Services will be held at 2pm Sunday, Feb. 15th at the United Church of Randolph, with Rev. Roger Wotton, officating. Burial will be at Mountain View cemetery in West Braintree in the Spring.
