Estlow Services
A memorial service for Margaret Wolff Estlow will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Randolph.
A summer resident of Royalton for 26 years, she died July 24, 2005 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
Mildred Washburn
CRESCENT CITY, CALIF. — Mildred Washburn, 87, died Dec. 4, 2004, on her 87th birthday. She was born in Bethel, Vt., Dec. 4, 1917, the daughter of Alex and Lydia (Atchinson) Washburn.
Prior to her retirement, she was a research librarian for Life Magazine. She was known for her unique sense of humor. After her retirement, she lived in Randolph Center with her mother for several years. Subsequently, she and her mother moved to Davis, Calif., to be near her sister and family.
Survivors include her niece, Claire Golan; great-nephews, Alon and Ari Golan; great-niece, Dina Golan-Moraes; and great-great-grandnephews, Gustavo and Noah.
She was pre-deceased by her sister, Alice (Washburn) Williams of Inverness, Calif.
Private services are scheduled.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wier’s Mortuary Chapel of Crescent City, Calif.
Marion Ainsworth
ROCHESTER — Marion Mae Ainsworth, 79, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
She was born Jan. 26, 1926, in North Troy, the daughter of Carl and Greta (Haskins) Judd. "Mae" as she was known, attended Bethel schools and graduated from Whitcomb High School in 1944.
She married
Winston D. Ainsworth Aug. 19, 1945, in Bethel. They owned and operated the Ainsworth farm in Rochester for many years. He died in 1985.
She was a member of the Rochester Federated Church. She had been very active with the county and state farm bureau and had served as the women’s chairman from 1976-84. She had been a member of the Windsor County Extension Advisory Board and the Valley Rescue Squad. She enjoyed gardening and cooking and was well known for her sweet rolls. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Survivors include four daughters, Dianne Root of Springfield, Pamela Ainsworth of Newbury, Carline Murray of Waterbury Center, and Rebecca Ainsworth of Roswell, Ga.; three sons, Winston J. Ainsworth of Jerrersonville, Galen Ainsworth of Waterbury, and Kevin Ainsworth of Rochester; a sister, Dorine Pratt of Rochester; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by a brother, Jerry Judd; two sisters, Gloria Jesso and Grazia Tilton; and a grandson, Justin Murray.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, at the Rochester Federated Church. The Rev. Dr. William Daniels officiated. The congregation sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "How Blest Are They Who Trust in Christ." Heidi Willis sang "Thanksgiving Eve." Phyllis Hawley was the organist. The eulogy was given by Mae’s daughter, Pamela Ainsworth. Several family members and friends offered remembrances of Mae. A reception, put on by the Women’s Alliance, followed in the Fellowship Hall. Burial will be at a later date in the Woodlawn cemetery, Rochester.
Friends may make memorial contributions to the Rochester Federated Church, Main St., Rochester, Vt., 05767.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Day Funeral Home, Randolph.
Warren P. Leonard
ROCHESTER — Warren P. Leonard, 96, died Monday, March 28, 2005 at the Park House in Rochester. He was born Aug. 4, 1908 in Brockton, Mass., the son of Fred and Mary Leonard.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Leonard of Rochester; and two sons: Bill Leonard of Rochester, and Christopher Leonard of Sag Harbor, Long Island, N.Y.
Vermont Blessings of Guilford is in charge of handling cremation arrangements.
Barbara M. Dimick
ORONO, MAINE — Barbara Monroe Dimick died peacefully April 11, 2005, in hospice care at her apartment.
She was born Sept. 3, 1917 to Walter and Josephine (Stark) Monroe at her Uncle Elmer’s home in Windsor, Vt. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1935 and worked in the community until WWII.
As was common during WWII, she became a war bride, eloping with Merle E. Dimick Sept. 19, 1942 in Bennettsville, S.C. Her husband had enlisted in the US Army Feb. 25, 1942 and was posted to Fort Bragg, N.C. After the wedding, she remained in North Carolina and worked in retail clothing as a designer and decorator. They remained at Fort Bragg until Oct. 4, 1945 when her husband was discharged and they returned to Vermont.
Back in Windsor, her husband began work with Central Vermont Public Service and she worked in retail apparel. They moved to Emerson Terrace in Randolph in 1951.
They enjoyed all forms of outdoor sporting, and ultimately settled in Townshend, where their camp that overlooked the West River north of Brattleboro, was eventually converted into their retirement home. Countless friends and relatives were hosted there and politely subjected to rounds of hearts, horseshoes and annual fish fries. She was a friend to many and a favorite aunt for many nieces and nephews. Upon retirement, they wintered in Naples, Fla. near her brother and sister.
She was a loving and tireless caregiver for her husband, a 30-year cancer survivor, who died March 13, 1989 in Naples. She continued wintering in Naples until 1999 when she decided to live full-time in Townshend. In 2003, she moved to Orono, Maine to live next to her sister.
She was a life-long member of The United Methodist Church and The Mt. Ascutney Grange. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant brother, Randall; and sister, Phyllis Fyles.
Survivors include her brother, Leighton of Newport, N.H.; and sister, Virginia, of Orono, Maine; as well as nieces and nephews in California, New York, Vermont, Maine and Florida.
A private memorial service will be scheduled.
Francine Brillante
VICTORIA, TEXAS — Francine Brillante, 83, died Feb. 14, 2005. She was born in Randolph Aug. 19, 1921, the daughter of Evelyn (Sault) Jones and Harry Jones.
She graduated from Randolph High School in 1939 and attended the former Bishop de Goesbriand School of Nursing in Burlington. Upon graduation, she entered the military service where she met her future husband, Lt. Gabriel Brillante. Her assignments included duty on an Army hospital ship off the Atlantic coast.
Much of her married
life was spent in El Paso, Tex. where her husband worked at the White Sands Proving Ground and she continued nursing and homemaking.
She is survived by five daughters and five sons, 29 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Locally, her cousins in the Jones-Sault family will mourn her loss.
A memorial mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas Saturday, Feb. 19. followed by a military funeral and burial, Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the FN. Bliss National cemetery Albuquerque, N. Mexico.
Kyle R. Garrow
BRAINTREE — Kyle Robert Garrow, 16, died Sunday evening, Sept. 11, 2005 in Brookfield, following a motor vehicle accident.
He was born Feb. 18, 1989 in Plattsburgh, N.Y.; the son of Robert and Linda (Trombley) Garrow. He had lived in Plattsburgh until moving to Randolph in 2001, where he was currently a junior at Randolph Technical Career Center. He was working at LED Dynamics in Randolph, and enjoyed four-wheeling, snow machining, snowboarding, and his car.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Robert and Betty Garrow of Braintree; his mother and stepfather, Linda Spooner and her husband, Burton Spooner, Jr., of Randolph; his grandmother, Geraldine Trombley of Cadyville, N.Y.; two half brothers, Robert Garrow, Jr. of Plattsburgh, N.Y. and Burton Spooner III of Williamstown; a half sister, Lisa Garrow of Plattsburgh, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. at Saints Donatian & Rogatian Catholic Church in Randolph, with Rev. John Milanese officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph. Calling hours will be Friday, Sept. 16 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Charles McCrillis
TUNBRIDGE — Charles B. "Bud" McCrillis, 74, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph. He was born March 4, 1931, in Tunbridge, the son of Theodore and Carolina Florence (Durkee) McCrillis.
He attended school in the one-room schoolhouse on Whitney Hill until his family moved to Sharon. After finishing eighth grade, he went to work for his father logging. He entered the service in 1952 and served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married
Maybelle May Russell March 22, 1952. He logged for a time in Gaysville before he and his family moved to Strafford, where he worked in the copper mines. He moved back to Tunbridge in 1961 and worked for Trumbul-Nelson Construction of Hanover, N.H. Later he went to work for S.T. Greswold Construction, installing fence along Interstates 91 and 89. Maybelle McCrillis died Dec. 13, 1970.
He married
Phyllis M. (Russell) Oct. 23, 1971. In 1974, he went to work logging for David & Simmons in Claremont, N.H. Before his retirement, he worked out of his home maintaining and repairing cars. He also mowed and maintained many of the Tunbridge Cemeteries. During his entire life and especially the past few years, he enjoyed traveling the back roads of Vermont.
Survivors include his wife of Tunbridge; six sons: Charles "Bucky" McCrillis of Randolph, David C. Russell of Tunbridge, Roger A. McCrillis of South Royalton, James "Buddy" Russell of Washington, Timothy R. McCrillis of Wallingford, Conn., and Jeffrey B. McCrillis of Strafford; eight daughters, Bonnie L. McCrillis of White River Junction, Dolores "Dolly" Tucker of Chelsea, Betsy M. Johnson of Corinth, Winkie Hook of Chelsea, Kathy R. Lyford of Barre, Tracey L. Hayward of Chelsea, Cindy Chambers of Tunbridge, and Pamela M. Lyman of Stockbridge; 38 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Emma Carey of Rutland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Ida; and a granddaughter, Maebell "Pip" McCrillis.
Calling hours were held Friday evening, March 18, at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. A funeral service was held at the Tunbridge Church Saturday, March 19. The church was filled with his many friends and family.
The Rev. David L. Wolfe read Psalm 23 and Psalm 104 and shared special remembrances written by his family. He spoke about Bud’s love for his children and how he shaped his children and friends into a community. Rev. Wolfe shared stories of family rides and picnics, auctions in Sharon, nicknames given to his family and friends, his love for dogs, especially his dog, "Baby, " and Christmas celebrations.
Country music selections played during the service were "Live Like You Were Dying" by Tim McGraw, "Go Rest High Upon the Mountain" by Vince Gill, and "If Heaven" by Andy Griggs. The service concluded with Rev. Wolfe reading a thought written by Henry Scott Holland and the playing of Bud’s favorite song, "Sneaky Snake" by Tom T. Hall.
The bearers at the church and cemetery were 18 grandsons: Charlie McCrillis, B.J. McCrillis, Aaron Moses, Sam Moses, C.W. Tucker, Ruben Hook, Kaleb McCullough, Tobin McCrillis, Matt McCrillis, Dennis McCrillis, Luke Hayward, Zac Hayward, Mark Chambers, Cal Lyman, Dexter Russell, Ben Coburn, Casey Coburn, and Josh Coburn.
Burial was held in the Spring Road cemetery in Tunbridge. Following the services, family and friends attended the fellowship at the Tunbridge Town Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Branch Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 74, Chelsea, Vt., 05038.
