Thomas V. Jenkins
FREDERICK, PA. — Thomas V. Jenkins, 82, died June 9, 2001 at the Frederick Mennonite Community.
He was born in Philadelphia, Penna. son of Dr. G. Chapin Jenkins and Emma (Vinter) Jenkins.
He was a graduate of Germantown Academy in 1935 and the College of Agriculture at Pennsylvania State University in 1939.
He was married
to Dr. Helen Ellis in 1945. She died in 1962. He married
Ethel (Riehm) Clendaniel in 1963.
He retired from Swift & Co. in 1974 after 28 years in sales. As a resident of Gaysville and Stockbridge, Vt. from 1974 to 2000, he was an employee of Ted Green Ford, Inc. and served three terms as selectman for Stockbridge.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge Friendship-Williams #400, F. & A.M., Jenkintown, Penna. and also a member of the American Legion, Military Order of the Purple Heart and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, WWII, European Theatre and recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Survivors include his wife; two sons: William E. and Robert V. Jenkins of Willingboro, N.J.; a brother, G. Chapin Jenkins of Wyndmoor, Penna.; and a stepson, Wayne R. Clendaniel of Sassamansville, Penna. and a niece.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will happen at the convenience of the family, in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Stockbridge, with a Masonic service.

Glendine Welch
HAMPTON, VA. — Glendine Boynton Welch, 84, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at her home. Born Dec. 18, 1919 in South Pomfret, Vt. she had lived on the Peninsula for the last 38 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. Ret. Stanley Harold Welch, and a grandson, Matthew Welch. Stanley Welch was from the Tunbridge, Vt. area.
As a dedicated military wife, she moved her home often throughout the United States and Germany, but her constant loving presence provided a secure and stable family in which she raised five children.
Survivors include two daughters: Mary Ann Bowyer and husband, Mike, of Richmond, Va., Carolyn W. Brumbaugh and husband, Dave of Annandale, Va.; three sons: Stanley H. Welch, Jr. and wife, Terry of Edwardsville, Ill.; Raymond A. Welch and wife, Melissa, of Corpus Christi, Texas; Michael E. Welch and wife, Brenda, of Carrollton, Va., one brother, Norman Boynton and wife, Bertha of Quechee, Vt.; one sister Madeline Clarke of Rye, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, June 2 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Hampton, Va. Burial followed in Parklawn Memorial Park.

Edson E. Gifford
EAST RANDOLPH — Edson E. Gifford, Jr., 82, of East Randolph, died Friday, May 2, 2003 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born June 20, 1920 in Randolph; the son of Edson E. Sr. and Loeata (Hill) Gifford. He graduated from Randolph High School in 1937, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Science from University of Vermont in 1941, graduating Suma Cum Laude.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, as Base Supply officer at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He worked the family farm with his father, taking over full operation in 1961.
He married
E. Jean Lamplugh in Wilmington, Del. Feb. 20, 1943.
He was supervisor for Rutland, Bennington, and Windsor County USDA Farmers Home Administration from 1946-47. He also served as Agriculture Instructor for the Veterans Institutional On-Farm Training Program. He worked for the Vermont State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service from 1964-1986.
He served in the Air Force Reserve for many years, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel.
His other offices included Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture, Randolph Town School Board for 28 years, Braintree-Randolph Union High School Board, Governor’s State Advisory Committee on the Manpower Development and Training Act, Past President of the Orange-Washington County Division of the State School Directors Assn., Executive committee of the Orange County Farm Bureau, Board of Directors of the Vermont Credit Union League, White River Valley Development Association, and Board of Trustees of Vermont Sheltered Workshops.
He was a trustee and deacon of the East Randolph Baptists Church, where he served as treasurer for 32 years, and was a member for 47 years. He drove a school bus for the Randolph School District.
Survivors include his wife, of East Randolph; two son: Edson E. Gifford III of Buffalo, N.Y. and John Gifford of Bethel; a daughter, Loeata H. Tillou of South Barre; two sisters: Priscilla Carpenter of Randolph and Marilyn Sargent of Randolph Center; six grandchildren; Kim, Johnny, and Mark Gifford of Bethel, Paul Gifford of East Randolph, Mark Hurne of Essex Jct., and David Hurne of San Diego, Calif. and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon, May 6 at the East Randolph Baptist Church, with Rev. Marty Bascom, officiating. Mrs. H. B. Graves was the pianist. Rev. Bascom opened with a poem, then shared scripture and offered a prayer. The congregation sang "Blessed Assurance."
Dr. H.B. Graves shared scripture and some personal remembrances. The congregation sang "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart." Rev. Albert Collins shared his memories of Edson, and along with his wife, Virginia, sang "He Whispers Sweet Peace To Me."
Dr. Graves then invited friends and family to share their remembrances of Edson. Grandson, Paul Gifford sang a special tribute to his grandfather, "Who Was This Man?" followed by the congregation singing "It Is Well With My Soul."
Pastor Bascom offered the message, and closed with prayer. The congregation sang "Now I Belong to Jesus, " to conclude the service.
Burial with full military honors followed at East Randolph cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Smith, David and Mark Hurne, John Gifford II, Mark Gifford, and Paul Gifford. A reception followed at the East Randolph Community Hall.
Calling hours were Monday evening at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
Clayton A. Swenor
TUNBRIDGE — Clayton A. Swenor, 76, died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at his home in Tunbridge.
He was born April 23, 1927 in Guilford, the son of Jesse J. and Rose E. (Schroffraneck) Swenor.
In 1942, the family moved to Torrington, Conn., where he attended school. He served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Only July 10, 1966 he married
June Mears of Bethel. In 1948, his family moved to Barnard, where they purchased a dairy farm. He and his brother, Henry, ran the Swenor Brothers Dairy Farm until Henry’s death in 1992. Clayton farmed for four more years before selling his herd in 1996. In 2000, Clayton and June sold the farm and moved to Tunbridge.
He had also worked for ten years for Precision Concrete of Woodstock, and most recently for A.E. Boles Construction of South Royalton.
He was a member of the rising Sun Lodge #7 F. & A.M. in South Royalton. He enjoyed working on his farm, deer hunting, reading, maple sugaring, raising chickens and telling jokes and stories.
Survivors include his wife, of Tunbridge; a daughter, Connie A. Linton of Royalton; a step-daughter, Debra L. Welch of South Royalton; two step-sons, Ronald Quillia, Jr. of White River Jct., and Jeffrey Quillia of Gilman; four grandchildren; a sister, Gertrude (May) Talmadge of Guilford, Conn.; two nieces, Lisa Huntington of Wallingford, Conn. and Ann Clock of Freeport, Ill.; a nephew, David Talmadge of Branford, Conn., and a great-nephew, Brandon Nobile of Freeport, Ill.
He was predeceased by a brother, Henry R. Swenor, and a niece, Lesley Talmadge.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, from 7-9 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, Main Street, Chelsea with a Masonic service conducted by Rising Sun Lodge #7 F. & A.M. at 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Lupton officiating. Burial will follow at the Silver Lake cemetery in Barnard.

Electa MacDougall
NORTHFIELD — Electa L. MacDougall, 86, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 at Mayo Healthcare in Northfield. She was born in Braintree, Dec. 24, 1916, the daughter of Arthur C. and Lucy M. (Bean) Bass. She was a 1933 graduate of Randolph High School.
She married
David MacDougall at Highland Manse in Berlin Oct. 9, 1935. They lived in Brookfield, Randolph, Rutland, and South Barre, prior to moving to Northfield in 1951. He died Oct. 11, 1981.
She worked for the Department of Employment and Training in Montpelier for 15 years, retiring in 1982.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Northfield, involved in community craft programs, the quilt show and Northfield’s Labor day events.
Survivors include one son, David A. MacDougall and his wife, Christine of Northfield; three daughters: Deanna M. Maloney of W. Berlin, Marie MacDougall of Alpaus, N.Y.; and Carol L. MacDougall of Barre; one brother, Martin H. Bass of Barre; two sisters: Ruth Ruch and her husband, Arnold of Richford and Linda Bradshaw of North Carolina; eight grandchildren: Tammy, Robin, Christopher, Susanne, Michael, Douglas, CaraLia and Greydie; 10 great grandchildren; Cortney, Brittany, Kasey, Ashley, Philip, Jonathan, Conner, Bryce, Liam and Jonah; one great-great-grandchild, Kade; and many nieces and nephews.
Hers on, Raymond H. MacDougall, predeceased her.
There were no public calling hours. A funeral service was conducted Saturday, Sept. 20 at the United Methodist Church of Northfield. Burial followed in the West Brookfield cemetery.
