Barbara Stevenson
EXETER, NH Barbara Gerrish Stevenson, 91, a Randolph Center resident from 1969-99, died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Eventide Home. She was born Jan. 3, 1912 in Melrose, Mass., daughter of the late Elmer Grenville Gerrish and Amy Fernald Gerrish.
She was married
Sept. 12, 1936 in Melrose to John Bryant Stevenson of Pittsburgh, Penna. He died Jan. 11, 1982.
She retired with her husband to Randolph Center in January 1969. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Randolph Center and was active in the Randolph Garden Club and Gifford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering at its thrift shop for many years. She was also a member of the Corporators and elected to the Gifford Hospital Board of Trustees in 1982, serving until 1985.
She retired for the "second time" in 1999 when she moved to Newmarket, N.H. to be near her daughter, Amy. In November 2002, she moved to Exeter, N.H.
Survivors include her two daughters: Beverly and her husband, George L. Seldon of Boston, Mass., and Amy and her husband Joseph L. Ross of Stratham, N.H.; two grandchildren, Celia Ross of Chicago, Ill. and Robert Ross of Albuquerque, N.M.; one great-grandchild, Cassandra Amy Ross; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Grenville Bradbury Gerrish and Winslow Fernald Gerrish.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the charity of your choice.
Interment in the Randolph Center cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
Dwight A. Boyce
MONTPELIER Dwight A. Boyce, 92, formerly of West Brookfield, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003, at Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin.
He was born Oct. 14, 1910, in West Brookfield, the son of Clarence and Florence (Tullar) Boyce.
He attended Ludlow (Mass.) schools and graduated from Ludlow High School. He continued his education by attending Cummington School of Art, in Cummington, Mass.
He married
Ruth Henrichon Nov. 11, 1942, in White Plains, N.Y.
He owned and operated a floral shop in Ludlow, Mass. before returning to West Brookfield in the early 1950s. He worked as a florist at Pink Shutters in Montpelier for several years.
He was also a musician, playing piano at the Woodstock Inn, Montpelier Tavern and several other area establishments. He was a contributing writer and artist to several magazines including "Good Old Days, " "Weird Tales" and "Country Life." He enjoyed designing and making figurines, which he sold to area gift shops.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth A. Boyce of Montpelier; his daughter, Elaine Boyce of Moretown; a grandson, Christopher Fernandez; a granddaughter, Mary Ellen Sanders; and a great-grandson, Tre Torres.
Graveside services will be held at a later date at the West Brookfield cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Marian W. Button
CHELSEA Marian W. Button, 86, died Wednesday night, March 3, 2003 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born April 29, 1916 in East Bethel, the daughter of Clayton and Lyda (Buck) Wight. She graduated from South Royalton High School and furthered her education at the Brattleboro Business School in Brattleboro. When she completed her secretarial training she went to work at the local A.S.C.S office, a division of the USDA County Extension Service through the University of Vermont.
On Aug. 8, 1936 she married
Arthur C. Button. He purchased the Elm Ridge Farm in Chelsea from his grandfather. Together the couple shared the responsibilities of the daily operation of a dairy farm. During the early 1940s, when efforts were being made to get electric service up through Chelsea, she worked for the Rural Electric Agency, signing up homes for the proposed power line of the Washington Electric Cooperative.
Along with raising her family and her duties on the farm, she found time to give to her community. She was a member of the Branch Club, the United Church of Chelsea and the Service Guild. She also served on the Chelsea School Board for nine years.
She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing and making some of the best bread in the valley.
She is predeceased by a brother Howard Wight and a sister, Martha Wight.
Survivors include her husband of Chelsea; three sons: Wendell A. Button of Spartanburg, S.C.; Clayton A. Button of Nottingham, N.H.; and Brian A. Button of Chelsea; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters; Mildred Ford of Sun City, Fla.; Merle Morse of Barre, and Merta Wakefield of Randolph; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Highland cemetery in Chelsea.

Ethel Bloomfield
Bethel Ethel I. Bloomfield, 97, died Sunday evening, March 9, 2003, at Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, N.H.
She was born Aug. 30, 1905 in Boylston, Mass.; the daughter of Rupert and Laura (Stone) Smith.
She attended Boylston schools and graduated from Worchester (Mass.) Commercial High School.
She was married
to Edmund Bloomfield in New York City in 1924. The Bloomfields lived in New York City until moving to Rutland in 1947. He died in 1953.
She worked as a telephone operator, first for New York Telephone Co. and then transferred to New England Telephone Co., where she worked until retiring in 1963. She also worked part time at the Mills Store in Bethel.
She was a member of the Miller Memorial Methodist Church in Bethel, the United Methodist Women and the So. Royalton Senior Center. She enjoyed doing crafts and reading. In earlier years she enjoyed flower gardening.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Benson of Stockbridge; her son, Edmund Bloomfield, Jr. of Jim Thorpe, Penna.; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 12 at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph. Calling hours were Tuesday evening. Burial will be in the Fairview cemetery at a later date.

Maebell McCrillis
ROYALTON Maebell "Pip" McCrillis, 15, died suddenly Monday, March 10, 2003 at the home of her caregivers, Sheila and Bob Quillia, in Royalton.
Arrangements are pending at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, Main Street, Chelsea.
Candace W. Lane
RANDOLPH Candace "Candy" W. Lane, 43, died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
She was born Jan. 23, 1960, in Newport, the daughter of Carl and Dorcas (Gage) Wright.
She attended Brookfield (Vt.) and Holbrook (Mass.) schools and graduated from Holbrook High School in 1978. She later continued her education at Norwich University, earning her nursing degree in 1992.
She married
Alan Lane July 20, 1991, in Rochester.
She worked as an EMT for the Valley Rescue Squad in Rochester for several years. She also worked for Meagher Electronics in Rochester and later worked as a Registered Nurse at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, Hanover, N.H., and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., in the oncology department.
She was a member of the Randolph Baptist Fellowship, Tres Dias, White River Valley Players, the Brookfield Community Singers and the Randolph Community Drug Task Force. She had also served as a mentor to several Randolph Union High School students. She loved art, especially working with mosaics, clay and paints.
Survivors include her husband, Alan Lane; two sons: Christopher M. Collins and Corey D. Collins, and a daughter, Cara G. Collins, all of Randolph; her parents, Carl and Dorcas Wright of Brookfield; three step-sons, Steven E. Lane and Chris A. Lane, both of Texas; and Alex D. Lane of Randolph; a brother, Michael R. Wright of Randolph; a sister, Catherine Wright of Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Glenn Wright.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. at Randolph Baptist Fellowship, with Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours were held Wednesday evening at the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
