Rev. Proctor greeted the congregation that filled both the upper sanctuary and the lower church hall to full capacity, offering an opening prayer that expressed the mixed emotions of sorrow and appreciation for the loss and life of the young woman. The poem, "Teenager’s Creed, " which Andrea had hung on her bedroom wall and a philosophy which she tried to follow, was read to the hundreds of tearful friends and relatives.
The congregation then listened to a music selection entitled "Inside Us All" which was followed by the reading of the poem, "The Journey" written by one of Andrea’s dearest friends. A second musical selection entitled, "A Thousand Miles" was played and the congregation was given the opportunity speak a single word or phase that came to mind when they thought of Andrea. Words such as kind, brave, helpful, impacting, a really hard worker, smiling, dependable, sincerely caring person, self confident, are but a few qualities people expressed during the time of sharing.
"Understanding" was another word used to describe Andrea and was also the title of the third poem read at the service. Rev. Proctor along with organist, Elaina Griffith led the congregation in singing the hymn "Softly and Tenderly." Guest pastor and friends of the family, Rev. Dale Edwards shared a few scripture readings and offered reflections of Andrea. The final hymn, "Amazing Grace" was sung just prior to Rev. Proctor’s closing prayer and benediction. The song "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler played as family and friends left the church.
