George V. Spooner
KANSAS — George V. Spooner, 55, formerly of Randolph, died Tues. Feb. 6 at the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas after a long battle with M.S. and cancer.
He was born June 2, 1945, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Burton Spooner. He attended Randolph schools and graduated from R.U.H.S. in 1963.
He retired from the Army due to his illness and was the recipient of two purple hearts and three bronze stars from the Vietnam War.
He was married
to Sally Vose of Rollingsford, N.H. The marriage ended in divorce.
He leaves two children: Dawn of Herrington, Kansas and Patrick of Newport, Vt.; three grandchildren: Jessica, Amanda and Kristina; his mother, Mrs. Burton Spooner of Randolph Center; two brothers; Burton of Randolph and William of Granite Falls, Washington; two sisters, Penny of Bethel and Emma of Berlin, Vt. One brother Ernest is deceased as is his father.
Funeral services were held in Kansas and a military service was held at Fort Riley Veterans’ cemetery, where burial also took place Feb. 12.
Herbert C. Fisk
Fulton, N.Y. — Herbert C. Fisk, 86, former resident of Tunbridge, died Tuesday at home.
He was born in Fulton and was plant manager at Gillespie Dairy Farm, Fulton. He also worked at Metcalf Plumbing and Electrical in Fulton.
He was a Navy Veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, the former Blanche E. Beckhorn; two daughters, Una F. Wiltse of Hannibal N.Y. and Paula M. Bell of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Richard H. of Sao Paulo, Brazil; five grandchildren and six great-grand-children.
Funeral services took place Friday, Feb. 9 at First United Methodist Church in Fulton. There were no calling hours. The Harter Funeral Home, Brewerton, N.Y. was in charge of the arrangements.

William Cameron III
TUNBRIDGE — William W. Cameron, III, 68, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct.
He was born October 30, 1932 in East Orange, NJ the son of William and Priscilla (Porter) Cameron.
William attended Bloomfield, N.H, schools. Following his education he entered the service. He served with the U.S. Army for 30 years, retiring in 1976 with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. While in the service he served during the Korean War and completed two tours of duty in Viet Nam and was stationed in Germany for 12 years. He received numerous awards, ribbons and citations. He married
Marga (Arnold) January 7, 1961 in Germany. The Camerons moved to Tunbridge in 1976. He was a member of the Randolph V.F.W. and American Legion Post #9, Military Order of the World Wars, Sojourners, South Royalton F.& A.M. Rising Sun Lodge #7 and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter in Sharon. Bill enjoyed reading, especially history, coin collecting and working on his property.
He leaves his wife, Marga Cameron, of Tunbridge; a son, William Cameron, IV, of Chelsea; a daughter, Laura Camp of Franklin, N.H.; a brother, R. Bruce Cameron and a sister Priscilla Cameron both of Randolph; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Camp; and a niece. He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Douglas Camp.
Memorial services will be held at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to either the Gifford Community Health (Visiting Nurse Alliance) P.O. Box 2000, Randolph, Vt. 05060; or to the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge "Scholarship Fund" c/o Melvin Fuller, South Royalton, Vt. 05068.

Laura E. Howe
ASCUTNEY — Laura E. Howe, 83, died Sunday morning at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital in Windsor. She was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Tunbridge, the daughter of Leslie E. and Mertie J. (Rising) Wheelock.
She attended grade school first in the one room school on Whitney Hill and then later in North Tunbridge. She graduated from South Royalton High School in 1935.
She was married
to Laurence "John" Howe June 26, 1940, in Tunbridge where they lived for one year before moving to Windsor in 1941. She worked as a self-employed house cleaner serving several families in Windsor and the surrounding area.
She will be remembered as a great cook and for her love of people She also enjoyed Winston cup racing and watching her favorite driver, Dale Earnhart.
She is survived by her husband of Ascutney; a son, Ronald L. Howe of Ascutney; two grandchildren, Monica and Ronald Howe II, one great-grandson, Jordan Howe; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by twins, Steven and Judy Howe, and four sisters: Elizabeth Rogers, Marion Fisk, Hazel Blake and Mary Wheelock.
Calling hours were held Wednesday evening at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea. A graveside service will be held in the Spring Road cemetery in Tunbridge, later in the spring.

Walter Ferguson II
TUNBRIDGE — Walter S. Ferguson II, 78, of Tunbridge, Vt., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.
A funeral service was held Feb. 20 at the First Lutheran Church of Lyons, N.Y., with Pastor Arthur Sziemeister officiating. Spring burial will be in South Lyons cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
He was born Dec. 5, 1922, in Elmira, N.Y. He lived most of his life in Lyons, where he attended school and worked as a farmer and also for the town and village of Lyons. In 1980, he moved to Constantia, Oswego County, where he lived until April of 2000, when he moved to Tunbridge.
He served with distinction in World War II. He was a sergeant in the 10th Armored Division. He fought at the Battle of the Bulge, where he received two Purple Hearts for his wounds. He was decorated with the Grand Cross of Homage for the Military Order of the Ardennes and the Silver Cross for Conspicuous Service. He was a founding member of the Lyons VFW and a member of First Lutheran Church.
Burial will be with military honors.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ava Weimer Ferguson; five children, Walter (Skip) S. Ferguson III of Lyons, Marie Laird of Lyons, Ruth Bond of Grosse Pointe, Mich., Shirley Ferguson of Tunbridge, and Lois Ferguson of Lesotho, Africa; and 12 grandchildren.
Leon F. Young, Jr.
ORFORD, N.H. — Leon Francis Young, Jr., 71, of Orford died Friday, June 8, 2001 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. after a short illness.
He was born August 29, 1929 in Lyme Center, N.H., the son of Leon Sr. and Louise (Columbia) Young. After being educated in Lyme schools, he worked on the family farm on Acorn Hill.
He enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a truck driver during World War II and the Korean War.
He was married
to Winifred Streeter Jan. 25, 1951 in Bradford. She died in 1998.
After his discharge from the service, he returned home and worked as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. In 1978 he began work for Dartmouth College, retiring in 1990.
His memberships included the Heavy Equipment Operators Union, Local #98, and the James H. Young American Legion Post #80 in Lyme.
Survivors include two daughters: Deborah Wood of Poultney and Gail Peck of Sharon; two sons; James Young of Orford, N.H. and Michael Young of West Lebanon, N.H.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters; Esther Hart of White River Jct. and Hazel Smith of Zephyr hills, Fla., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers; Ira, Stanley, James and Lawrence Young; and two sisters; Lucille Gilman and Patricia Poitras.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 12, in Highland cemetery in Lyme, N.H. there were no calling hours.
Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements are by Hale Funeral Homes of Bradford and Thetford.
