Sheldon M. Dimick

RANDOLPH — Sheldon M. Dimick, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 23, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born in West Hartford, Vt., Sept. 11, 1913, the son of Coyt and Lucy (Moore) Dimick.

He graduated from Hartford High School in 1931. After high school, Dimick went to Michigan State University to study veterinary medicine. When finances made it impossible for him to continue his studies, he returned to the White River Valley and drove truck, delivering grain, cattle and chickens.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, serving on a surgical team in Germany, France, England and Belgium. His long and distinguished career in banking, a career that spanned nearly 50 years, began when he was hired by the First National Bank of White River Junction as janitor. He advanced through the ranks, serving as bookkeeper, teller, and assistant cashier.

He joined the Randolph National Bank as cashier in 1952, where he was to become a leader in the economic development of Randolph and the White River Valley. Dimick oversaw the growth of Randolph National Bank, and the establishment of offices in Rochester, South Royalton, and other area communities. He was named president in 1956, a position he held until retirement in 1977. He continued to serve on the board until 1981.

Dimick was devoted to the bank, to Vermont and to the White River Valley, whose hills, rivers and streams he knew well. He held leadership positions in a number of state, local and national organizations. He was a national director of the Independent Bankers' Association, a trustee of the Vermont State Colleges, a trustee and treasurer of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra, president of the Greater Vermont Association, president of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, president of the Randolph Chamber of Commerce, president of the Randolph Rotary Club, a trustee of Gifford Hospital, a director of the Green Mountain Fiddlers, and a member of the Resource Conservation and Development Committee.

He was also honored as a Rotary Paul Harris fellow and Vermont State Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the year.

His memberships included the United Church of Randolph, Montague Golf Club, where he generously gave time and guidance during the '60s and '70s, the Mystic Star-Phoenix Masonic Lodge #97, Mt. Sinai Temple, the Randolph American Legion Post #9, the Randolph Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Vermont Council of the Arts.

His interests included golf, fishing, reading, his grandchildren, playing bridge and storytelling. He will be remembered for his dedication to serving his church, family and community.

He married Francella Howard in South Royalton January 3, 1933; she died Oct. 14, 1981. He leaves a son Steven Dimick of Randolph; two daughters, Judy Alonso of Randolph and Dianne Benoir of Glover; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Everett Dimick.

Funeral services were held at the United Church in Randolph Monday morning, Aug. 27, with Rev. Deborah Perrigo and Rev. James Lupton officiating. Organist was Phyllis Hawley, and special music was provided by Richard Ellis, who played "Stardust" and "Sleepy-Time Gal" on the saxophone. "The Lord's Prayer" was sung by Edson Gifford. The congregation sang "In the Garden, " "The Old Rugged Cross, " and "Count Your Blessings." Testimonies were given by grandson Jason Alonso, nephew Dan Aher, John Osha, and friends.

Calling hours were at the Day Funeral Home Sunday evening, where the Masonic Ritual was offered by Mystic Star-Phoenix Lodge #97. Burial with full military rites from the U.S. Army Honor Guard from Camp Johnson, was in the Mountain View cemetery in Braintree.

Pallbearers were Justin Dimick, Peter Dimick, Bretton Dimick, Joseph Dimick, John Dimick and Jason Alonso. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Webster, Raymond Gray, Francis Leonard, Arthur Peper, Joe Vince, and Major M. W. McLaughlin.

Charles G. Titus

CHELSEA — Charles G. Titus, 68, died Thursday morning May 3, at his home in Chelsea. He was born February 26, 1933 in Vershire, the son of C. Wellington and Marcia (Godfrey) Titus.

He attended school in Chelsea and later worked from several local farms. He married Dorothy Ricker of West Fairlee in 1953. He lived most of his life in Vershire and worked at the Strafford Copper Mines. Later he drove a school bus and operated an auto repair garage at his home.

In 1982 he married Grace R. Keene and moved to Chelsea. Most recently he worked at H.E. B. Manufacturing in Chelsea retiring in 1995. Grace died Dec. 9, 1995.

He was a member George Washington Lodge #51 F&AM in Chelsea. His hobbies included deer hunting, bird hunting, fishing and puttering on anything mechanical. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and helping people fix their vehicles.

He is survived by two sons, Douglas Titus of Fairlee and Paul Titus of Chelsea; a daughter, Janet MacWhinnie of Ulstra, Penn.; two stepsons; Steven Knudsen, of Chelsea and James Knudsen of Conroe, Texas; two stepdaughters, Rita Chamber and Kathy Tullar, both of Chelsea; ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a brother, Elwin Titus of West Chesterfield, N.H; four sisters; Marion Grant of East Barre, Margaret LaCount of Lebanon, N.H.; Clara Gilman of Chelsea and Dorothy Porter of Randolph and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Howard Titus and two sisters, Irene Button and Rose Ricker.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 8 at the United Church of Chelsea. The Rev. Brenda L. Howe officiated. Remembrances of their father were given by sons, Paul and Douglas Titus. A delegation of friends and co-workers from H.E.B. Manufacturing Co. in Chelsea attended the service. A Masonic service was conducted at the Hunt cemetery in North Tunbridge by the George Washington Lodge #51 F. &A.M. Following the services, there was fellowship at the United Church of Chelsea hosted by the Church Service Guild.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Branch Ambulance Service, Inc., P.O. Box 74, Chelsea. Services are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea.

Clifton J. Alexander

BRANDON — Clifton J. "Keeley" Alexander, 89, formerly of Randolph and Berlin, died March 26, 2001, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., following an automobile accident in Berlin.

He was born in Montpelier, August 8, 1911, the son of Ned J. and Lula (Colby) Alexander. He was educated in Montpelier schools and graduated from St. Michael's High School, where he excelled in sports. He was a member of the state championship basketball team.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bunker Hill. He was a life member of the Montpelier Post #792 V.F.W.

He worked as a carpet-layer, mason, and as a self-employed contractor doing painting and wallpapering. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, canoeing, gardening and the outdoors.

He was married to Barbara Bruno, the mother of his three children. She died in 1973. He married Margaret Loukes, April 14, 1965. She died December 12, 1997.

He leaves a son, Robert Alexander, of Worcester; a daughter, Jacqueline Doney, of Northfield Falls; two brothers, Max Alexander and Robert Alexander, both of Montpelier; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by a son, Gary Alexander; a sister, Maude Taylor; two grandchildren, Gary Alexander and a granddaughter, Sandra Dee Doney.

There were no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Vermont Veterans Memorial cemetery at Randolph Center.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.

Alice V. Peck

ZEPHYRHILLS, FLA. — Alice V. Peck, 82, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at the Sunbelt Health Care Center of Zephyrhills. She was born in LaFleche, Saskatchewan, Canada, Jan. 25, 1919, the daughter of Lloyd and Mabel (Goddard) Harrison.

She graduated from Randolph High School in 1936 and from the Gifford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1940.

She became a U.S. citizen June 3, 1953.

She was an RN at the Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph for many years, served the town of Randolph as health officer from 1952-1955.

After moving to Florida in the mid 1970s, she worked at Dade City Hospital and the East Pasco Medical Center in Zephyrhills.

She was a member of the Zephyr Christian Church in Zephyrhills. She enjoyed arts and crafts, quilting, reading, cooking, and in earlier years, camping with her husband and fellow airstreamers.

She married Theron Peck in 1940. He died February 6, 2000. She leaves a son, Ted Peck, of Lebanon, N.H.; a daughter, Brenda Palmer of Wesley Chapel, Fla.; a sister, Viva Rilling, of Zephyrhills, Fla.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five step-grandchildren; also nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held later at the Pleasant View cemetery in Randolph.

Donations may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell Street, Burlington, Vt. 05402.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home.

Paul Lissandrello

SOUTHBURY, CONN. — 89, of Southbury, died Saturday evening, Mar. 31 at the Medi-Plex Nursing Center in Southbury.

He was born Oct. 6, 1911 in New York City, N.Y; the son of George and Maria (DeMarco) Lissandrello. He attended New York City Schools, living in Greenwich Village and Brooklyn until moving to W. Sayville, N.Y. in the 1950’s.

There he owned and operated Oakdale Realty until retiring to Gilford, N.H. in the mid 1970’s. He lived the last ten years in Waterbury, and finally Southbury.

He was married to Marie Barbaro in Brooklyn, N.Y Sept. 8, 1940.

He was a past-president of the Lions Club of Oakdale, N.Y., and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sayville, N.Y., where he was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed reading, painting, and golfing.

Survivors include his wife, Marie of Albany, N.Y.; six sons; Paul Jr. of Randolph; Richard J. of Waterbury, Conn.; Joseph M., of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; George J., of Patchogue, N.Y.; Robert J. of Voorhessville, N.Y.; and John P. of Milford, N.H; a daughter, Margaret Frankman of Remsenburg, N.Y., a brother, Eugene J., of Oneonta, N.Y.; a sister, Rose Badolato of Dover, N.H.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two brothers, John & Frederick.

A Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, Apr. 4 at Sts. Donatian & Rogatian Catholic Church, in Randolph, with Rev. John Milanese, officiating.

Spring burial will take place at Holy Cross cemetery in Randolph. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Sts. Donatian & Rogatian Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 428, Randolph, Vt. 05060. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph, Vt.
