Florence P. Burnham
BETHEL — Florence P. Burnham, 93, died Wednesday, November 8, 2000, at the Brookside Nursing Home in Bradford.
She was born in New Britain, Conn. October 28, 1907, the daughter of Enrico and Albina (Mongoni) Pola. She was educated in Connecticut schools.
She married
George Burnham in 1931. He died in 1992. They came to Sharon in 1944, where they farmed until 1960. They farmed in Cornwall until 1963. Florence resided in Cornwall until 1994, when she moved to Bethel.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in Cornwall. Her interests included reading, and traveling, especially her last trip to Spain.
She leaves two sons: George and his wife, Janet Burnham, and Richard and his wife Jean Burnham, both of Bethel; a daughter Gail, and her husband, Harold Dozier of Conway, South Carolina; a sister Doris Wheeler of Somers, Conn.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by a grandchild.
Funeral services were held at he Day Funeral Home in Randolph, Saturday Nov. 11, with Rev. Gordon Mitcheson of Hinesburg officiating. The organist was Phyllis Hawley.
The burial was in the Central cemetery in Cornwall, Monday Nov. 13.

Emilienne Bouchard
WILLIAMSTOWN — Emiliene Bouchard, 88, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000 at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin. She was born in Montreal, Quebec, on January 11, 1912, the daughter of Omer and Odena (Pereault) Bouchard.
She was a former resident of Randolph and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. She enjoyed caring for children, animals, visiting with friends and shopping.
Survivors include a brother, Armand Bouchard of Northfield Falls; a sister, Yvonne Besette of Colchester; many nieces and nephews; special friends and caregivers, Heather Mesler and her daughter, Kaitlyn of Williamstown.
A sister, Aline DeLaricheliere, and two brothers, Roland and Joseph Bouchard pre-deceased her.
There were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 15 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Vine Street in Northfield. Burial followed the mass in the Calvary cemetery, also in Northfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Independence, P.O. Box 417, E. Barre, Vt. 05649. Kingston Funeral Home in Northfield was in charge of the arrangements.
Joseph P. Palmer
RANDOLPH — Joseph "Joe" P. Palmer, 37, died Saturday evening, June 16, 2001, after a drowning accident in the White River Royalton. He was born April 10, 1964, in Randolph, the son of Vernal P. "Stub" and Lorraine F. (Conradson) Palmer.
He grew up in Tunbridge and graduated from South Royalton High School in South Royalton in 1982. He worked for a short time at Brookside Industries and Iron Horse Roofing, both in Tunbridge. He also worked farming, for a short time with Allen Howe and then Brent Lindstrom. For a few years he helped operate with his dad, Palmer & Son Foundations. The past six years he had worked at Vermont Castings where he was the supervisor in the Enameling Department.
On June 22, 1996, he married
Tammy Philbrick in the Dodge Gilman Building on the Tunbridge Fairgrounds. They lived in Randolph for the past few years.
He enjoyed hunting and was a long time member of the North American Hunting Club. He also enjoyed traveling around in his new truck, visiting friends and family. Most of all, he loved spending time with his kids.
He is survived by his wife, of Randolph; his daughter, Tiffany Hurd and son, Joseph "Joey" P. Palmer Jr., both of Randolph; his mother, Lorraine Palmer, of Tunbridge; a sister, Shelley Barnaby of Tunbridge; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at the Tunbridge Congregational Church in Tunbridge with the Rev. David Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in the Village cemetery in Tunbridge, followed by fellowship downstairs at the Town Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made to a trust fund established for his children's education, in care of Lorraine Palmer, 235 Potash Road, Tunbridge, VT 05077.
Inez I. Hull
BARNARD — Inez Isrealla (Johnstone) Hull, 98, died June 19, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mass.
She was born Dec. 20, 1902, in Royalton, daughter of John A. and Arleen Marcella (Stickney) Johnstone.
She attended the Broad Brook Elementary School in South Royalton and South Royalton High School. She worked in Windsor for a year, moved back to South Royalton and then moved to Barnard in 1921.
On April 22, 1922, she married
Nc L. Hull in the Hall Parlor in Barnard, Vt. She lived in Barnard, brought up her family, farmed, worked hard. She went deer hunting over 60 years, missed a few but bagged many.
For 38 years she was the bus driver for the Town of Barnard. She also did the laundry for over 30 years for summer and area people. At age 95, she flew over Barnard with Ralph Lessard to celebrate her big day. Her son Everett enjoyed the ride with her.
She was a long-time member of the Silver Lake Chapel and a Sunday school teacher there for many years. She was also a big instigator in keeping the church active and helping Rev. Gerhardt in building it up to a large congregation. She was loved by all, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Everett Hull of Hemet, Calif.; a daughter, Phyllis Wooster of Paxton, Mass.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Porter and Ruth Porter, both of Barnard; cousins, nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a son, Eldon Hull, in 1991, and two brothers, Merle and Maurice Johnstone and a sister, Vera Flint.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 22, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Silver Lake Chapel in Barnard. Earl Adams will officiate. Burial will follow at the Silver Lake cemetery in Barnard. There will be no calling hours.
Friends may make donations to the charity of their choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Cabot Funeral Home, 1 Rose Hill, Woodstock.
Charles C. Gow
HANOVER, N.H. & Bethel, VT — Charles C. Gow, 86, died Friday afternoon, Mar. 30 at Kendall at Hanover. He was born July 28, 1914 in Beijing, China; the son of Dr. F.S. Gow and Wei Yi Mu.
He came to the United States in 1938 to pursue his college education. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. He received his metallurgical engineer degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was employed as chief engineer and vice president at Wah Chang Smelting and Refining Company of Glen Cove, N.Y During his tenure of over 40 years, he developed many new devices and techniques for processing tungsten metal, a high temperature metal essential for U.S. defense applications during WWII.
After President Nixon opened the Iron Door of China, he helped China build two new tungsten refining plants. He made numerous trips to China during the 1970’s and 1980’s sharing with the Chinese his knowledge of how to efficiently process tungsten ore.
He was a first class tennis player, having won the championship of North China while still a teenager. He was the captain and coach of his tennis team in college. Throughout his adult life, he played tennis, winning many awards on the North Shore of Long Island. He was an avid golfer and skier.
When he retired, he moved to Bethel, and spent many happy years skiing with his wife at Killington. Shortly before he died, he moved to Hanover, He was an avid golfer and skier.
Survivors includes his wife of 59 years, Louise Gow of Hanover, N.H.; a daughter, Nancy Crabb of Madison, Wis., a son, Robert Gow of New York City, a sister, Yue Ying Wang of Woodland, Calif., three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Monday, April 2 at the United Church in Bethel, with Rev. Kent Lipka, officiating. Reflections were given by Charlie’s daughter, Nancy Crabb, son-in-law, Dr. Ronald Crabb, son, Robert Gow, and grandchildren, Wendy & Joel Crabb. Andra Mills was the pianist.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the United Church, Bethel, Vt. 05032. Arrangements are by the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
R. E. "Pete" Blanchard
WEST LEBANON, N.H. — Roy E. "Pete" Blanchard, 88, died Sunday at Brookside Nursing Home in White River Jct., Vt. He was born Nov. 19, 1912 in Beaver Meadow, a son of Harvey and Nellie (Morse) Blanchard.
He attended school in Beaver Meadow and at 16 went to work for the Town of Norwich Road Crew. In 1935 he married
Odalite Chesley. He worked on various area farms and for several feed stores as a grain truck driver and the Homestead Dairy in Windsor, as truck driver.
He worked at the Seminary Hill School in West Lebanon for 21 years as a janitor, retiring in 1978. After retiring he worked part time at Dan & Whit’s General Store in Norwich.
He married
Alva Noyes of Sharon, May 29, 1969. They moved to West Lebanon in 1970 and lived there until 1998, when he moved to Rogers house in Lebanon. He has resided at Brookside Nursing Home since April. Mrs. Blanchard died April 15, 1997.
He was also predeceased by a son Edward H. Blanchard, a grandson, a brother, Charles Blanchard, and four sisters: Mable Royce, Mildred Rogers, Grace Dunbar and Ruth Drake.
He is survived by three daughters, Jane Dickerson of Wilder, Betty McKenney of Hartford, and Anna LaMott of Keene, N.H.; a step-daughter Connie Fish of Lunenburg, Mass; two step-sons David Noyes of Gardner, Mass. and Tom Chesley of Claremont, N.H.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
There will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Beaver Meadow Chapel in Beaver Meadow, Vt. Burial will be in the spring at the Pine Hill cemetery in Sharon, Knight Funeral Home in White River Jct., is in charge of arrangements.
