Ray I. Seymour

STOCKBRIDGE — Ray Seymour, 94, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at the Mt. View Genesis Nursing Home in Rutland.

He was born in Brookfield, May 10, 1907, the son of Philip and Hazel (Smith) Seymour.

He was educated in Brookfield and Williamstown Schools.

He married Dorothy May Bix Nov. 27, 1934 in Lebanon, N.H. She died March 13, 2001.

He worked as a chauffeur in New London, Conn., was a lineman for the Central Vermont Public Service Corp. for 11 years, owned and operated Seymour’s Saw Mill in Gaysville, and from 1963 until retirement in 1976, owned and operated Seymour Roofing Company.

He served the town of Stockbridge as Justice of The Peace, Zoning Administrator and School Director.

He enjoyed woodworking, trapping, hunting, fishing, bowling, golf, horseshoes, and gardening. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #74 in Bethel.

He leaves a son, Lloyd and his wife Lois, of West Lebanon N.H., four daughters: Kay and her husband, Theodore Rhoades, of Barnard; Sandra and her husband, Bruce Machia, of Wallingford; Linda and her husband, Mark LaFave, of Barnard; and Gail and her husband, Bob Ketchum, of Stockbridge. Also, a brother, P. Norton Seymour of Braintree; and a sister, Doris Seymour, of Braintree; 22 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Barbara Knight; a brother, Dolph Seymour; and three sisters; Gertrude Scarborough, Mildred Darling, and Marcia Roy.

Graveside services were held Friday, June 1, at the Stockbridge Common cemetery with Rev. Alan Hoskins officiating.

Special music was provided by Rev. Alan Hoskins who played the guitar and led the congregation in "For the Beauty of the Earth, " and "This Is My Father’s World, " Monica. Bill and Brian Webber sang "In The Garden, " with Bill playing the guitar.

A poem "No Vermonters In Heaven" was read by Kristine Machia.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Day Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Vt. Association for the Blind, 37 Elmwood Ave., Burlington, Vt. 05401.

James D. Fadden, Sr.

So. Royalton — James D. Fadden Sr., 62, died Thursday afternoon, May 31, after a brief stay at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Jct. He was born Sept. 16, 1938 in Enfield, N.H. the son of David W. and Lottie C. (Goodell) Fadden.

He grew up in Lebanon and attended the Lebanon High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

In May of 1956, he married Annette Hickory. They lived in Plainfield, N.H. and he worked for Cone Blanchard Machine Company in Windsor.

In 1976, he was married to Linda Brown. They lived in Springfield for a short time and he worked at Joy Manufacturing in Claremont, N.H. before they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. They moved to South Royalton in 1988.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Rising Sun Lodge F&AM. He was also a member of the Beth-el Christian fellowship in South Royalton where he was "Honorable Mayor" of the "Veggie Town" Vacation Bible School.

Jim served as Green-Up Day Chairman for the past three years in South Royalton.

He had a love for life that few could match, even though a motorcycle accident had left him a quadriplegic and wheelchair bound for the past 17 years. He could be found nearly everyday out collecting recyclables in and around the South Royalton area. He would travel in his wheelchair 15-30 miles a day, usually accompanied by one or both of his faithful dogs, Molly and Sofah. He loved children and enjoyed supporting the South Royalton Sports Programs including Little League baseball, basketball, softball and the American Legion baseball team as well as the South Royalton High School soccer, basketball, softball and baseball teams. His two greatest passions were serving his family and our Lord and Savior.

He is survived by his wife Linda, of South Royalton, four sons; Jim Fadden, Jr. of Central Village, Conn.; David Fadden of Uncasville, Conn.; Wilfred Fadden of Brookline, Conn.; and Steven Fadden of Sumter, S.C. where he is serving with the U.S. Air Force; five daughters; Debbie Braley of Lempster, N.H; Wanda "Julie" Day of Claremont, N.H.; Lottie Fadden of Charlestown, N.H.; Ericka Fiegil of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Rebecca Fadden of South Royalton; 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Judson Collins of Canaan, N.H.; his former wife, Annette Hickory of Charlestown, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5 at 6 p.m. at the Beth-el Christian Fellowship in South Royalton, Vt. Burial followed in the River View cemetery in South Royalton.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the South Royalton Recreation Department, payable to the Town of Royalton, P.O. Box 308, South Royalton, Vt. 05068 or to the Legion Baseball Team.

The Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, is in charge of arrangements.

Norman P. Harvey

Florence — Norman P. Harvey, 73, died peacefully at home on Oct. 7, 2000. He was born June 6, 1927 in Rochester, son of Theron S. and Dorothy (Smead) Harvey. He was the oldest of six sons and a graduate of Rochester High School in 1944.

Norm was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was born into a farming family and was a partner in the farm business until 1967. In November of 1967, he moved his family to the former Sagi (Phillips) Farm in Florence, where he and his sons expanded and modernized from a 40 cow, 100 acre farm to a 120 cow farm that operates over 400 acres.

Mr. Harvey was a nationally recognized leader in the dairy industry. He served on the board of directors of Agrimark and its predecessor cooperatives, Yankee Milk, New England Milk Producers, and White River Valley Dairy. He served as a longtime treasurer of both the Yankee Milk and Agrimark boards, and chairman of the Agrimark board from 1987-1992. He was a board member of the Springfield (Mass.) Bank for Cooperatives and its chairman from 1987 to 1992. On both boards he was responsible for overseeing large organizations and multi-million dollar budgets. He was president of Milk Promotion Services, Inc. a dairy research and promotion organization. Norm served as chairman of the UVM Extension Advisory Council. He also served on numerous regional and national agricultural boards.

Locally, he was Pittsford Moderator for 13 years and a selectman. He was chairman of the Pittsford School Board and Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union Board. He was active in the Pittsford Congregational Church serving as moderator and council chairman.

Mr. Harvey was a 50 year member of Rural Lodge No. 29 F. & A. Masons, in Rochester.

Norman is survived by his wife of 51 years, Erna (Palmer); daughter, Janet S. of South Boston, Mass; son, N. Kimber, his wife Holly Young; and granddaughter, Kristine of Florence; son, Matthew P. also of Florence; brothers, Donald, Marvin and William of Rochester; Lewis of E. Dummerston and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Edwin.

Calling hours are Thursday, Oct. 12, 7-9 p.m., at the Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford. A memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Pittsford Congregational Church, with a family committal service at Rochester cemetery on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rutland Community Cancer Center, 160 Allen St. Rutland, Vt. 05701.

Barnard Funeral Home in Pittsford, Vt. is in charge of arrangements.

Gwendolyn Tozier

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — Gwendolyn Tozier, 84, died Sunday at her home in Goose Creek, S.C.

She was born in Clinton, Maine, Feb. 13, 1916.

She married Millard "Rip" Tozier and they had two daughters, Mary and Barbara.

She and her husband owned and operated Tozier’s Restaurant in Bethel for many years before retiring and moving to Florida.

Three years ago she and her husband moved to South Carolina to be closer to their daughter Barbara and husband Tom.

She was predeceased by her husband. Survivors include her two daughters, Mary ‘Jackie" and husband Cecil Elmore; Barbara and husband Tom White; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Her funeral was held Tuesday in South Carolina.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vt. 05602.

May L. Richardson

SHARON — May L. Richardson, 82, died Friday evening, Oct. 6, 2000, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, in Lebanon, N.H. She was born January 11, 1918 in Royalton, the daughter of Merton and Lena (Adams) English.

She attended school in Royalton and was married to Clayton Richardson, November 16, 1941 in Royalton, they lived in Woodstock for a time and several other towns, before settling in Sharon in 1950.

May was a loving hardworking mother, staying home and raising her three children. Later, after her children had finished high school, she worked at the InterLake and Camp for Girls in Sharon where she did all the baking for the campers. In 1969 May went to work at Merrimaid in Randolph, retiring in 1981.

Her retirement was the beginning of yet another career, as she and her husband began their own bake shop selling home baked breads, donuts, jams and jellies at local farmer markets. Her specialty was her fresh baked pies May and Clayton could sell, on any given Saturday, 25 to 30 pies along with other goodies they had made. They peddled their bake goods at the Randolph Farmers Market, the Norwich Farmers Market, and the South Royalton Farmers market.

May had worked right up until her diagnosis of cancer late this summer. May and Clayton would have celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary this coming November.

She is survived by her husband, a son, Donald E. Richardson of Lyme, N.H; two daughters, Sandra Lavender of Brookfield and Judith Keefe of Mary Esther, Fla.; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a brother, Walter English of Royalton; two sisters, Gladys Churchill of Henderson, Nev., and Ruth Dumont of Roxbury; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Merton English and Leon English who died the day before she did.

A graveside service was held Tuesday at the Pine Hill cemetery in Sharon. The Rev. Douglas L. Moore from the Sharon Congregational Church officiated. Fellowship was held immediately following the service at the church in Sharon. Memorial contributions may be sent in her memory to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, N.H. 03756-0001.

Services were under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt.
