Elijah J. Goss
Elijah J. Goss, 17, of Newport died suddenly on September 18, 2010, in Newport.
He was born on April 3, 1993, at North Country Hospital in Newport where his grandmother Nancy has worked for 20 years. He was the beloved son of Stephanie Goss and Darrin Corkins.
Eli was a senior at United Christian Academy (UCA) in Newport where he attended school for eight years. He was a member of the soccer and basketball teams and loved by his peers at UCA. He was truly “raised Jay, ” skiing his favorite mountain since he was three years old. His mother worked there for 18 years. He split his winters between skiing Jay and ice fishing on Lake Seymour with a close “crew” of friends. He loved everything outdoors and would lend a hand with any family or farm in need. On any given day, spring or summer, he would make his farm chore rounds before catching up with the “crew” at the Lake Seymour beach. Eli had a gift of brightening any room he walked into with a dynamic smile and a joke, always willing to lend a helping hand. He was also blessed to blend his time between his school friends and farm friends.
He is survived by his mother, Stephanie Goss, of Newport; his father, Darrin Corkins, of Newport; maternal grandmother Nancy Goss of Newport; paternal grandmother Dorothy Corkins of Newport; by his twin sister Ivy J. Goss of Newport; his other sisters Ashley and Brittney Corkins, both of Newport; his aunt Alyssa Delabruere of Newport; uncle Chris and aunt Brenda Goss of Stowe; and uncle Scott and aunt Jill Goss of Clarkston, Michigan. Eli’s seven surving cousins, Jon, Chris and Amy Delabruere of Newport, Jasper and Ruby Goss of Stowe, and Molly and Joey Goss of Clarkston, will miss him dearly every day of their lives. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins of the Corkins family who will miss Eli and the energy he brought to their family camp in Glover and the annual family reunion. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, S. Douglas Goss, and paternal grandfather, Harold Corkins.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, at the Cornerstone Evangelical Church on the Quarry Road in Newport where funeral services will also be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, with Pastor Glen Saaman and Pastor Mike Desena of the Morgan United Church officiating. On Friday, September 24, the UCA boys varsity soccer team will dedicate their game to Eli on their home field at Gardener Park at 4 p.m.
Eli’s ashes will be layed to rest in a private family celebration of life ceremony at both the summit of Jay Peak and the shore of Lake Seymour. In honor of Eli’s life, please remember to always buckle up!

Genevieve R. Greenman
Genevieve Rae (Fagan) Greenman, 88, died September 5, 2010, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton.
She was born on June 8, 1922, in Brooklyn, New York, a daughter of Eva Louise Matheson and Michael Fagan.
She attended Atlantic Union College Nursing Program in South Lancaster, Massachusetts, and became a nurse like her mother.
She married
Saul E. Greenman in September of 1943 and lived on the U.S. Naval Station in Key West, Florida, until the end of World War II. They then moved to New York City where she had two children, Brenda Louise and Kenneth Michael. She worked many years as a hospital nurse and retired from the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, Massachusetts, at the age of 62.
Mrs. Greenman continued as a volunteer in the hospital auxiliary and in her neighborhood health outreach clinics for seniors. She loved bus trips all over New England and activities with her friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's company.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth and his wife, Nancy, of Highland, New York, and Brenda and her husband, Gabe, of Albany; by grandchildren Michael, Marie, and Joel and his wife, Andrea; her great-grandchildren Mia Louise and Landyn Jonathan; several dear cousins who she grew up with and considered as brothers and sisters: James, Charles and Ethyle; her step-grandchildren Michael and Cara; and step-great-grandchildren Brandon and Brenna. She was predeceased by her former husband, Saul, in December of 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, at the Albany Methodist Church in Albany. Burial will follow in the Newport Center cemetery.

Delight L. Thibault Hood
Delight L. Thibault Hood, 58, died on Friday, September 17, at her home in Hartland surrounded by her family.
She was born January 23, 1952, in Coaticook, Quebec, a daughter of Paul S. and Mona (Riendeau) Molloy.
After graduating from Canaan Memorial High School, she worked as a telephone operator in Canada and later assisted her father in operating the Norton Country Store. She also worked for a time as a teacher’s aide at St. Albert’s School in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire. Mrs. Hood was proud to be the first female certified logger in the state of Vermont, as she operated the family logging business after her first husband’s death.
She was a dedicated citizen of Norton and enjoyed serving her community in many ways, including volunteering at the Norton Village School and serving on the Norton School Board. In recent years, she loved spending winters with her husband in Fort Myers, Florida.
She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Gaetan Thibault, and her West Highland Terrier Shamrock.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Hood, of Hartland; a son Steve Thibault and his wife, Kyla, of Norton; a daughter Josee Riendeau and her husband, Marc, of Goffstown, New Hampshire; stepsons Todd Hood and his wife, Michele, of Hartland and Darrell Hood of Windsor; five grandchildren; and a sister Shirley Flores and her husband, John, of Waldorf, Maryland.
A Mass was celebrated September 21 at 1 p.m at St. Bernard’s Church in Norton with burial in St. Bernard’s cemetery.

Robert F. LaBounty Sr.
Robert F. LaBounty Sr., 82, husband of the late Betty (Garrick) LaBounty, died on September 14, 2010, at MidState Medical Center.
He was born in Barton, a son of the late Francis LaBounty and Myrtie LaBounty Beaulieu.
He had lived in Meriden, Connecticut, for the past 46 years. He was a graduate of Barton Academy and was employed by C.S. Margison Co. of Hartford for many years. He was a peacetime veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy. He loved to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.
He is survived by a daughter Debra Virgulto and her husband, Mark, of Meriden; a son Robert F. LaBounty Jr. of Meriden; eight grandchildren: Paul, Joshua, Ashley, Mark, Brittany, Brianna, Arielle, and Jordan Virgulto of Meriden; three sisters Rachel Daigle and her husband, Ronald, of Granville, New York, Marion Griffin and Beverly LaBounty, both of West Glover; an aunt Ruth LaPlante of Farmington, Connecticut; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth, Richard and Raymond LaBounty, and two sisters, Dorothy Morgan and Pauline Shafer.
The funeral was held on September 18 at the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home in Meriden. Burial with military honors followed.

Teresa Nicole McDermut
Teresa Nicole McDermut, 101, died on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at home in Jay with her loving family by her side. She was formerly of Montvale, New Jersey.
Mrs. McDermut was born December 6, 1909, in New York City, the oldest of six children born to Giovanni and Marie Antoinette Rinaldi. She grew up in Cliffside Park, New Jersey. After graduating from Richmond Business College, she worked at McFadden Publishing Company in New York City.
She married
Whitney B. McDermut, her beloved, on August 25, 1937. He predeceased her on December 10, 2000.
The early part of her married
life was devoted to raising her family which she excelled at. She was a stylish lady with a natural gift for decorating. She also assisted her husband in the family business. She volunteered with numerous organizations. She was president of the Pascack Valley High School Parent and Teachers Association, served on the Girl Scout Council of Bergen City, New Jersey, and on the Jamie Shulman Foundation, and she delivered meals on wheels into her late seventies. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne at St. Vincent de Paul Church of North Troy. She was blessed with a generous heart.
She is survived by two children, Whitney B. McDermut Jr. of Bombay, New York, and Irene McDermut of Jay; by granddaughters Heather Lee Moretti and her husband, Lawrence, and Tracy Lynn Pacio of California; by grandson Whitney B. McDermut III and great-granddaughter Sydney Moretti also of California; by one sister Marie Josephine Ford of Rhode Island; and by many nieces and nephews. Mrs. McDermut is also survived by, and will be deeply missed by, many friends in the area who have come to love this wonderful lady. She will be especially missed by her “special daughter” Jeannie Lawson, who cannot be thanked enough for her kindness and loving care over the last several weeks and for the time spent with her over the many years since she moved to the Jay area. She was predeceased by three brothers: John, Joseph, and Patrick Rinaldi, and by one sister Alvira Capuzzi.
Funeral services were held September 21 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in North Troy with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating a Mass. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 22, at the George Washington cemetery in Paramas, New Jersey.

Duane V. Rowland
Duane V. Rowland, 76, of Barton, formerly of Newport, died on September 14, 2010, in Newport with his daughters at his side.
He was born March 10, 1934, in North Troy, a son of George and Mildred (Farrar) Rowland.
He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1975 as an SK-2. At one time, Mr. Rowland was also employed at Ethan Allen Manufacturing, Bogner of America, and Rural Community Transportation. He held membership with the Order of the Elks #2155. He enjoyed playing bingo and stamp collecting.
He is survived by his daughters: Lori Royer and her husband, Paul, of Newport and Julie Nelson and her husband, Michael, of Orleans; by four grandchildren: Andrea, Lisa, David and Danielle; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by the following sisters and brothers: George Rowland, Marjorie Prue, Eloise Chicoine, Windfield Rowland, and Viola Pollard.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Blair H. Warman
Blair H. Warman, 85, of Newport, beloved father and grandfather, died peacefully on September 18, 2010, in Newport.
He was born on May 24, 1925, in Cahoes, New York, and grew up in Bass River, New Brunswick, Canada. He was the oldest son of Kenneth and Charlotte (Campbell) Warman.
On April 21, 1963, he married
Abbie Roberts who predeceased him on April 27, 2010.
Mr. Warman was the director of Central Service for the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, Massachusetts, from 1969 through 1986, at which time he retired. He and and his wife moved to Newport Center in 1989.
Mr. Warman loved spending time with his wife and children and especially his grandchildren. He also loved his wife’s good cooking. He enjoyed playing the omnichord and the guitar and listening to Appalachian folk and gospel music. Mr. and Mrs. Warman looked forward to traveling to Bass River each year to spend a week with Mr. Warman’s cousin Jenny Ward and her family at their cottage and to visiting his family in town. During these trips, he loved to get together with his cousins to sing and play music. He was an inventor and a poet. He wrote a book of poetry entitled Springs of Memories.
Church life was very important to him. He served as an elder of the Newport Seventh Day Adventist church for many years and was a dedicated Bible student. He was also an active board member for Voice in the Kingdom Radio, Inc. WJSY-LP, 96.1 FM, the low power radio station owned by his church. In recent years he broadcasted many radio spots on WJSY called "Just thinking in Newport."
He is survived by his son James Warman and his wife, Michelle, of Newport Center; his daughter Donna (Warman) Luna and her husband, Jose, of Milford, New Hampshire; by five beloved grandchildren: Nathan, and Kaitlyn Warman, and Lindsey, Jose, and Isabel Luna; by two brothers, Gordon Warman and his wife, Joanne, of Bradenton, Florida, and Alvin Warman of Burnt River, Ontario; by three brothers-in-law, Al Overbye of Elk River, Minnesota, and Alfred (Bud) Roberts and his wife, Edna, of South Lancaster, Massachusetts, and Pastor William Dudgeon of Buchanan, Michigan. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald Warman in January 1999 and by his sister Doris (Warman) Overbye in February 2010.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, at the Newport Baptist Church in Newport with Pastors Jose Luna, William Dudgeon, and Octavian Poenaru officiating.
Mr. Warman will be laid to rest next to his wife in Holland, Massachusetts, on September 24 at 1 p.m.

June Elizabeth (Cook) Young
June Elizabeth (Cook) Young, 90, a lifetime resident of Glover, died Friday evening, September 17, 2010, at the Union House Nursing Home in Glover.
Mrs. Young was born in Glover on Cook Hill (now Perron Hill) on January 8, 1920, a daughter of G. Tracy and Blanche (Paquette) Cook.
She attended graded school in Glover, graduated from Barton Academy, then attended UVM one year, followed by a year at Lyndon Teachers College where she obtained her teaching certificate. In 1941, she taught four students at the Beach School in West Glover.
In 1942, she married
Robert “Robbie” L. Young and together they operated a dairy farm in the Andersonville section of West Glover. They were married
54 years, until his death in 1996.
Her faith and spiritual family at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church were important to her, and she was a member there for more than 65 years.
She especially loved spending time with her family. All were accepted and loved for who they are without judgment or advice. With some help from family and friends, Home Health, and Meals on Wheels, she was able to live alone in her home until February of this year. Even at the nursing home she remained interested in all that was happening in the lives of her family and friends, the farm, and neighborhood.
Mrs. Young was a lover of nature. As long as she was able, she enjoyed early morning bird walks, and became an expert in their calls and identification. Over the years, one of the things that gave her the greatest pleasure was feeding her birds and watching them from inside her home.
She learned to read before starting school at age five, and had a lifelong love of books and reading. In later years she spent many happy hours listening to books on tape. She also enjoyed classical music.
She is survived by her four children: James Young and his wife, Patricia, of West Glover, Jeannine Young of West Glover, Margaret Brewster and her husband, Ray, of Interlaken, New York, and Robert “Ted” Young and his wife, Rebecca, of West Glover; by ten grandchildren: Edwin Young and his friend, Sarah Russell, Beth Young, Tracey Young and her friend, Gustavo La Grave, Sam Young and his friend, Darcy Gagne, Lisa Feltner and her husband, Richard, Carla Lackey and her husband, Paul, Seth Brewster and his wife, Carman, Sarah Young-Xu and her husband, Yinong, Tello Young and his wife, Rebecca, and Joshua Young and his wife, Sandra; by three step-grandchildren: Kathryn Carberry and her husband, John, Fletcher Christiansen and his wife, Amy, and Hans Christensen and his wife, Mary; by 13 great-grandchildren; by two step-great-grandchildren; and by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, a grandson, Timothy Young, and her brothers, Vernon and David Cook.
There will be a memorial service at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 23, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Dennis Hett officiating. A committal service will be held at Andersonville cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Gwendolyn “Sallie” M. Blake
Gwendolyn “Sallie” M. Blake, 74, of Coventry died peacefully on October 10, 2010, at The Manor in Morrisville. There will be no calling hours.
Mrs. Blake was born on May 13, 1936, in Barton, a daughter of Earl and Samira (Loukx) Ingalls.
On December 5, 1954, she married
William D. Blake who predeceased her in October of 2002.
Mrs. Blake was a licensed practical nurse and a pharmacy technician for 23 years at North Country Hospital in Newport.
After retirement in 1994, she continued to volunteer at the hospital for many years. She enjoyed cooking, making crafts, reading, traveling, but most of all, spending time with her family.
Mrs. Blake is survived by her beloved children: Vicki Strobridge and her husband, Roger, of Worcester, Lori Stratton and her husband, Kelly, of Coventry, and William H. Blake and his wife, Gloria, of Underhill; by her much loved grandchildren: Joshua Montague of Boulder, Colorado, Seth Cartee of Newport, and Cory and Abigail Blake of Underhill; by her cherished great-grandson Landyn Cartee; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother David E. Ingalls, and by her sisters Phyllis Willis and Gloria Allen.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
