RICHARD P. GUILMETTE
ENOSBURG FALLS -- Richard P. Guilmette, age 79, died April 9, 2002, at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born July 30, 1922, in Richford the son of the late Everts and Vivian (Haire) Guilmette.
Dick was a 1940 graduate of Richford High School and then attended school in Quoddy, Maine. He was employed at Hulbert Supply in Burlington for 33 years. Following his retirement he worked for Champlain Chevrolet. He was a life time member and former Board of Director of the Enosburg Falls Country Club. He served the Enosburgh Ambulance Service and was a call fireman for the Enosburg Fire Department for more than 20 years. He has been clerk and treasurer since 1995 for the Village of Enosburg Falls.
Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, and had a passion for a hot game of cribbage with family and friends.
Dick married his best friend Natalie (Messier) Oct. 12, 1946, she survives him. He is also survived by three children and their spouses, Paula and John Pettis of Vergennes, Mark and Carol Guilmette of Enosburgh, and Dean and Michelle Guilmette of Franklin; the joys of his life, his grandchildren, Erin and Katherine Pettis, Jessie Guilmette, Nicholas and Brianna Guilmette; two sisters-in-law and their husbands Bernoline and Terry Roddy of Enosburgh, and Audrey and Rolla Barry of Waterville; a brother-in-law and his wife, Steve and Phyllis Messier of Enosburg; a sister-in-law Marjorie Messier of Richford; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Sumner Guilmette. The family would like to thank the many special friends for their help and support, especially Buggy and Ramona Reed.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will follow in the South Richford Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls.

WALLACE R. ZWEERES
CHAMPLAIN, N.Y./HIGHGATE -- Wallace R. Zweeres, 78, a resident of Champlain, N.Y. since 1975, and a former longtime resident of Highgate, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 6, 2002 in Champlain. He was born in St. Albans, Aug. 10, 1923, the son of the late Roland and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Zweeres. On May 31, 1975, he married Katherine T. Glaude in St. Mary's Church in Champlain, NY.
Wallace retired in 1988 from Boise Cascade Paper Manufacturer in Sheldon Springs where he was a cost accountant. He attended the University of Vermont and graduated from Burlington Business college. He served as a volunteer at St. Mary's Mission Center in Champlain and enjoyed reading and collecting books, especially about World War II.
Wallace's only near relative is his dear wife of nearly 27 years, Katherine. He also leaves some cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary's Mission Chapel in Champlain, N.Y. on Friday, April 26, 2002, at 5 p.m.. Interment will be in the family lot in Highgate Center Cemetery on Thursday, April 25, 2002, at 2:30 p.m.
Arrangements are by the Heald Funeral Home, 87 So. Main St., St. Albans.
LAURA A. (CHAMBERLIN) PLAYFUL
JEFFERSONVILLE -- Laura Adelia (Chamberlin) Playful, age 87, passed away Friday, April 5, 2002, at Genesis Eldercare in Morrisville.
Born in Goshen April 1, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Fay and Ella (Cline) Chamberlin. She married Buel Marvin Playful on May 16, 1936, in Jeffersonville. He predeceased her Sept. 19, 1995. When she was a child, her family moved to South Cambridge where she was educated in a one room schoolhouse. She was a member of the former South Cambridge Community Club.
She is survived by three daughters, Beverly Hitchcock and her husband Frank of Jeffersonville, Charlene Hanley of Jeffersonville, Linda Chamberlin and her husband Kenneth of McCalla, Ala.; two sisters, Elsie Playful of Jeffersonville, Bertha Tallman of Montpelier; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also predeceased by, her son Neil M. Playful on June 7, 1964; six brothers, Harland, Frank, Arthur, Oscar, Roy and Elwin Chamberlin; two sisters, Lizzie Cameron and Agnes Freeman; a son-in-law Kern Hanley; three brothers-in-law, Lawrence Freeman, Earl Playful and Stanley Tallman; two sisters-in-law, Cora Chamberlin and Nel Frances Chamberlin.
There will be no public visiting hours. A funeral service will be held at the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home on Saturday, April 13, 2002, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Peggy Tooker of the Second Congregational Church of Jeffersonville officiating.
Interment will follow in the family lot in Jeffersonville Village Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Laura's memory to the Cambridge Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 431, Jeffersonville, Vt. 05464. Arrangements are by the Hayes-Rich Funeral Home, 1176 Main St., Fairfax.
CLINTON A. BAXTER
COLCHESTER - Clinton A. Baxter, 82, died early Friday morning April 5, 2002 at his home in Colchester, surrounded by his loving family.
Clinton was born in Milton on Dec. 25, 1919, the son of Ethan and Margie (Fitch) Baxter.
He was a graduate of the Milton High School Class of 1937 and attended UVM. Clint was a U.S. Army veteran serving proudly during World War II. On April 13, 1946, he married Palestine "Polly" Gilbert in Thomasville, Ga. Polly predeceased him on April 6, 1996.
He had been a resident of Colchester since 1947 and was a very active member of the United Church of Milton, helping out on many fund drives and cooking for the Dinner Bell at the United Church.
A carpenter by trade, Clinton was a member of the Carpenters Local Union # 1996. He belonged to Charlotte Moose, the Seneca Lodge # 40 F&AM, serving as past master and past chaplin of the lodge. He served as past worthy patron and chaplin of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) #59 and served as district deputy for the OES #9. He also held many honorary memberships in several OES chapters.
Clint had a great love for the outdoors and maple surgaring in the spring. He was also well known for his wonderful breads and baked beans. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Linda Johnston and her husband Douglas of Milton, Carolyn Hurteau and her friend Mr. Yvan Verville of Milton, Thomas Baxter and his wife Elaine of Geneva, Ill.; June Trayah and her husband David of Milton, Jean Correia and her husband Dick of Essex, Joseph Baxter and his wife Cindy of Georgia, Gilbert Baxter and his wife Celina Ellison of Vergennes; his grandchildren, Charles, Patricia and Rebecca Johnston, Shawn and Michael Hurteau, Jennifer Hurteau Hulbert, Brian and Steven Baxter, Dwayne Trayah, Yvette Tourangeau, Cristina and Randy Baxter, Stephanie and Ashley Zeno, and Josh Baxter; and by his great-grandchildren, Victoria, Alex, Heather, Zechariah, Brendon and Kelsey; by his brothers, Fitch Baxter of Swanton and Ethan Baxter Jr. of Jay, Maine; his sister Norma Lavalley of Colchester, ; his sister-in-laws, Connie Tung, Lillian Baxter, Mildra Spears and Berta Mae Gilbert; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law Clem Hurteau in 1996 and his brothers Earl and Calvin Baxter and his sister Bernice Hibbard.
Mr. Baxter's family would like to extend their thanks to all the attending physicians and staff at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, especially Dr. Ittleman, Dr. Stanley and Dr. Chris Terrien. A special thanks also goes to Barb Segal for the help given to Clinton and his family in making his transition home smooth.
A funeral service was held this morning, Monday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the United Church of Milton. Memorials may be made to either the Champlain Valley Hospice 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446, or to the United Church of Milton Building Fund, P.O. Box 107, Milton, Vt. 05468.
Visiting hours were held Sunday, April 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with an Order of the Eastern Star Service at 7:30 p.m. and a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home, located at 237 Route 7-South in Milton.
PHYLLIS JUNE COLI
CAMBRIDGE - Phyllis June Colli, 69 died early Friday morning, April 5, 2002 at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville following a long illness, with her loving family by her side.
Phyllis was born in Shaftsbury, Vt., June 4, 1932, the daughter of Frederick and Hazel (Russell) Holton.
On Oct. 4, 1949, Phyllis married Louis Coli in Manchester, Vt.
Phyllis loved the outdoors and took great pride in her children and grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Louis Coli Sr. of Cambridge, she is survived by her children Virginia Corey and her husband William of Derry, N.H., Robert Coli and his wife Janice of Cambridge, Vt., Mark Coli and his wife Sylvia of Chittenden, Louise Coli, Jr. and his wife Paula of Westford, and Daniel Coli and his finacee Diane Bushey of Jeffersonville; by 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Peter Coli and his wife Thelma of Arkansas, Kansas; Harry Coli of Huntington, and her sister-in-laws, Marion and Lucille Hilton of Arlington, Vt.; and by several nieces and nephews.
Phyllis was predeceased by an infant son Gary, by her brothers Russell, Lewis, Robert and Frederick Holton Jr., and by her sisters, Virginia and Gladys Holton.
Funeral services were to be held today, Monday, April 8, at 3 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home in Milton with the Rev. Alden Launer officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery in Arlington, Vt.
Contributions to Mrs. Coli's memory may be made to the Vermont Lung Association, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, Vt. 05403-9987. Visiting hours were held today from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Minor Funeral Home located at 237 Route 7-South in Milton.
ELVAH M. FARMER
BILLERICA, Mass. - Elvah M. Farmer, age 95, a longtime resident of Billerica Mass., peacefully died on Thursday, March 28, 2002, in the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley, where she had been a resident since 1995.
Elvah was born on Sept. 2, 1906 in Alburg, Vt. the daughter of the late Ranson and Eliza (Sweet) Bohannon. Elvah worked many years as a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service in Alburg, prior to moving to Billerica. She later devoted her life to the care of her two daughters. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Billerica, the Aim High Group and the Rebekah's group. Elvah was a very special aunt and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Elvah was predeceased by two daughters Barbara and Nancy Farmer, four sisters, Della Searles, Eva James, Alice Washburn and Ina Belle James.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins through out Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
Funeral service was held on Monday, April 1, 2002 from the Burns Funeral Home, 354 Boston Rd., Billerica, Mass. Interment followed in the Farmer family lot at North Cemetery. Gifts in Mrs. Farmer's memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, 18 Andover Rd. Billerica, Mass. 01821.
GERALDINE M. MESSIER
SHELDON -- Geraldine M. Messier, age 69, wife of Maurice Messier, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born May 30, 1932, in St. Albans the daughter of the late Leon and Doris (Young) Paquette.
Geraldine was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, and Sunday rides. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. Geraldine worked the maple sugaring operation along side of her husband at their Ox-Yoke Farm in Sheldon until failing health caused her to retire.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice Messier of Sheldon, they were married Sept. 28, 1957; one son, Larry Messier of Reno, Nev. and his fiancee, Qiong Zhou of Chongqing, China; one daughter, Lisa Messier and her daughter Marin Cummings both of Burlington; one brother and his wife Leon and Peggy Paquette of Saratoga, N.Y.; four sisters, Sandra Shover and her husband Alexander, Patricia McAllister and her husband Everett both of Vernon, Wanda Hemond of Ridgecrest, Calif., Bernice Sloan and her husband Ronald of Winooski; several nieces and nephews; her father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Alicia Messier of Enosburg Falls; a brother-in-law, N. James Messier of Essex Center. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Eldred; four brothers, Bernard, Maurice, Raymond and John Paquette.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning at 11 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Reverend Gerard Leclerc celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 7-9 at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
