William A. Seymour
William A. Seymour, 84, of Derby died peacefully on October 31, 2009, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Seymour was born April 30, 1925, in Groveton, New Hampshire, a son of Frank and Florence (Willey) Seymour.
On May 30, 1953, he married
Gisele Camille, who survives him.
He was employed by the H.P. Hood Company for 35 years and Union Butterfields for ten years.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War.
He enjoyed flying radio control airplanes, boating, archery, and black powder shooting.
He held memberships with American Legion Post 21 of Newport and Alfred Pepin Post 78.
He is survived by his wife, Gisele Seymour, of Derby; by three children: Gary Seymour and his wife, Brenda, of Newport, Nancy Dowling and her husband, Joe, of Newport News, Virginia, and Lolita Seymour of Newport; by three grandchildren: U.S. Army Warrant Officer Ryan Dowling of Newport News, U.S. Army Warrant Officer Alan Dowling of Hawaii, and Eric Dowling of Newport News; and by a great-grandchild. He was predeceased by half-brother Albert Willey; and by sister Lila Snay.
Funeral services were held November 3 at St. Edward’s Church in Derby Line with the Reverend Michael Reardon celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors followed in St. Edward’s cemetery.

Doris C. Simpson
Doris C. Simpson, 82, of Northfield died October 30, 2009, in Northfield.
Miss Simpson was born March 13, 1927, in Evansville, a daughter of Orin and Flora (Cushman) Simpson.
She graduated from Lyndon Teachers College with a degree in elementary education in 1950. She was employed by schools including the Worchester Elementary School. She was a ward secretary at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin.
She enjoyed horseback riding, traveling, and spending time with animals.
She is survived by several cousins.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Richard “Ricky” Edwood Westgate Jr.
Richard “Ricky” Edwood Westgate Jr., 46, of Newport died peacefully on October 26, 2009, in Newport, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Westgate was born August 8, 1963, in Brockton, Massachusetts, a son of Arlene Tice and Richard Edwood Westgate Sr.
He was a carpenter and painter for Russwood Interior Design Company in Colchester.
He was a very sociable person, telling stories and jokes, being the life of the party, and making people laugh. Most of all, he was proud of his family and friends and his Native American heritage. He enjoyed watching the History Channel.
He is survived by his daughter Angela Westgate of Rockland, Massachusetts; by his granddaughter Mariah of Rockland; by his mother, Arlene Tice, of Newport; by his fiancée, Elaine Chagnon, of Newport; by brothers: Michael Fillion and his wife, Connie-Jo, of Maine, Albert Bratti of Newport Center, and Henry Fillion and his wife, Kelly, of Rockland; by his sister Debbie Bratti and her husband, Ricky LaPage, of Newport; by many nieces and nephews; and by his many loving friends. He was predeceased by his father, Richard Westgate Sr., in 2000; by his stepfather Herbert Tice in 2001; and by nieces Tina Bratti Chagnon in 2005 and Nicole Bratti on April 19.
Graveside services were held October 30 at the Derby Line cemetery with Elder Robert Suprenault officiating.

Reginald E. LeBlanc
Reginald E. LeBlanc, 84, of Johnson died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at North Country Hospital in Newport.
Mr. LeBlanc was born in Troy on May 26, 1925, a son of Felix and Josephine (Garon) LeBlanc.
He attended Troy High School prior to enlistment in the U.S. Army to serve his country in World War II.
He owned and operated a dairy farm in Westfield for 29 years, worked for the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department for 16 years, Hearthstone Stove Company in Morrisville for about five years, and the Bullard Mill in North Hyde Park until his retirement. During the last several years he worked at Brown's Blueberries in Craftsbury.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting, and in earlier years, playing town team baseball. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hyde Park Post 7779 and a former member of the United Farmers Organization.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra J. LeBlanc, of Newport; children: Daryl LeBlanc of Westfield, Gail Nelson and her husband, Bruce, of East Ryegate, Dianne Farrar and her husband, Richard, of Coventry, and Elizabeth LaPlume and her husband, Kenneth, of Newport Center; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Yvonne Cote of Canada; special friends Sandra Mason of Johnson and his fishing buddy Fay Scott of Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by seven siblings and by his son William LeBlanc.
At his request there will be no services.

Edward R. McDuff
Edward R. McDuff, 70, of Holland died suddenly on June 4, 2009, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Mr. McDuff was born February 28, 1939, in Springfield, Massachusetts, a son of Dosvila and Malvina (Huard) McDuff.
On April 27, 1957, he married
Marie Ann Gelineau, who predeceased him in 2003.
He was a truck driver for the Walker Mill Work Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was a member and co-president of the North Country Swingers and director of the Stanstead County Horticultural Society. He was an excellent woodworker and carpenter, making many items for family and friends.
He enjoyed playing cards and taking rides in the area. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was always willing to lend a hand to his friends.
He is survived by his children: Carol Zapata of Florida, Michael McDuff and Tina McDuff of Massachusetts, and Mark McDuff and his wife, Darlene, of Essex Center; by his granddaughter Shannon McDuff of Essex Center; by his brother Joseph McDuff of Morgan; by his sister-in-law Gertrude Gibbs of Massachusetts; by his companion, Hazel Markwell, of Newport; and by several nieces, nephews, and friends. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his brother Norman McDuff and his wife, Pauline.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home on Darling Hill Road in Newport with the Reverend David Lisner officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Mead Hill cemetery in Holland.

Gloria M. Thomas
Gloria M. Thomas, 64, of Barton died peacefully June 1, 2009, at North Country Hospital in Newport after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Thomas was born April 23, 1945, one of three children born to John and Jane (Baird) Abel.
She will forever be remembered by her brother John Abel Jr. and his wife, Louise; and by her sister Mary Benway and her husband, Wayne. She will forever be in the heart and soul of her life partner, Ken Mandigo. She will remain in the hearts of her beloved children: Penny L. Martin and her husband, Scott, Tim Willis and his wife, Donna Willis, and Robert Thomas; and her grandchildren: Rodney Brewster Jr., Macy Jane Brewster, Gregory Martin, Kayla Grondin, Timmy S. Willis Jr., Emily E. Willis, and Lily D. Willis. She will be fondly remembered by Mr. Mandigo’s family: Denise Fletcher and her husband, David, Scott Mandigo and his wife, Terri, Chris Mandigo and his wife, Connie, Kenny Mandigo and his wife, Crystal, and Roberta Daniels; and by their children: Judie Mandigo, Dawn Fletcher, Desi-Rae Fletcher, Thomas Mandigo, Cheyenne Mandigo, Elizabeth Mandigo, Joshua Mandigo, Michelle McVeigh, Alexandria McVeigh, Danielle Mandigo, Alexander Mandigo, Anna Mandigo, Zachary McCormack, Taylor Vanasse, Aliyah Flynn, and Kailee Sylvestor.
She has joined those who predeceased her, including her parents, Brianna M. Willis, and Michael T. Willis.
She left behind countless friends and family members who were blessed to have known her.
She loved to listen to country music, crochet, tend her plants, research genealogy, and snack on caramels. She loved photographs and her cats Simba, Patches, and Zazu.
She touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and she maintained her trademark sense of humor and relentless stubborn streak all the way to the end.
She was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
Funeral services were held June 4 at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport. Interment will be in Pleasantview Cemetey in Orleans.

Philip Stanley Verrier
Philip Stanley Verrier, 67, of Lancaster, New Hampshire, died May 21, 2009, in Barton.
Mr. Verrier was born December 9, 1941, in Montague City, Massachusetts, a son of Felix and Helen (Pliska) Verrier. He married
Holly Hyde, who predeceased him.
He received a master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He worked as a forester.
He ran in the Boston Marathon and enjoyed cross-country skiing, playing the trombone, dancing, and spending time outdoors.
He is survived by his two children, Angela Carbonneau and her husband, Mike, of Derby and Adam Verrier of Anchorage, Alaska; by two grandchildren, Benjamin and Andrew Carbonneau; and by his sister Felicia Finck of Turner Falls, Massachusetts.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, at the Lady of Peace Church in Turner Falls. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Czestochowa cemetery in Montague.

George Leslie Young
George Leslie Young, 84, of Lake Parker, Glover, died peacefully at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington on May 25, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Young was born in Glover on August 25, 1924, to Clarence and Ruth Baker Young. A descendant of the Bean clan, he grew up on the family farm in West Glover village. As a teenager he grew vegetables to sell and trained the farm’s work horses. He graduated from Barton Academy in 1942.
In January 1943 he married
Ruth Naomi Whalen. Shortly afterward they bought the Whalen farm in Irasburg from Mrs. Young’s mother, where they raised three children, and farmed until 1969. The farm had two sugarbushes with 2, 400 taps and produced prize-winning syrup. He was especially fond of maple syrup. Family lore has it that each year a ten-gallon milk can of syrup from the first boiling was taken to the house and would be gone by the end of sugaring season. The farm was leased for many years after 1969, and was eventually purchased by Mr. Young’s brother Neil.
In 1971, after working as a United States Department of Agriculture consultant to dairy farmers on herd management, Mr. Young and Dave Young formed a partnership in Young’s Nursery, located on the Creek Road in Irasburg. Eventually Mrs. Young and sons Danny and Wayne joined the business. In 1978 the family bought out Dave Young and moved the nursery to the junction of routes 58 and 14, north of Irasburg Village. They operated the business at this location for ten years before selling it.
He was active in Irasburg affairs, serving as a moderator and auditor. He was in charge of the barbecued chicken at the Irasburg Church Fair for decades, served as a lay pastor, and together with his wife, took care of the church grounds. For many years he was a director for Cooperative Insurance and for Federal Land Bank, now Farm Credit.
He and his wife spent winters in Florida beginning in 1972, eventually settling in New Port Richey for six months of the year. After their retirement they continued to maintain strong community ties through the Irasburg United Church, Maple Valley Grange, square dancing, card games, gatherings of extended family members, and his lifelong passions — flowers and gardening.
Unwaveringly devoted to his wife and family, Mr. Young leaves those who knew him with the fondest memories of his humor, generosity, wisdom, and work ethic.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ruth; by his children: Danny Young, Wayne Young, and Priscilla Christopher and their partners; by four grandsons; by two great-grandchildren; by his sister Emily Young; by brothers Neil and Merle Young; and by dozens of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Mason; and by his sister Maribelle.
