Raymond M. Coderre
Raymond M. Coderre Sr., 62, of Barton died suddenly on April 6, 2010, in Newport.
He was born June 2, 1947, in Orleans, a son of Eddy and Fabiola (Vachon) Coderre.
On September 12, 1981, he married
Tamie Ashline who predeceased him on August 13, 2009.
Mr. Coderre was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Orleans.
He is survived by two children: Raymond Coderre Jr. and his fiancé, Jessie Bushey, of Orleans, and Tara-Lynn Coderre of Barton. He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Donald Coderre of Lowell, Eugene Coderre of Orleans, Giselle Damon and her husband, Robert, of Morgan, Cecile Arel of Newport, Estelle Wheeler and her husband, Alfred, of Newport Center, Desneiges Geraw and her husband, Chester, of Glover; a sister-in-law, Alice Coderre, of Irasburg; and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by brothers Lucien, Gaetan, Marcel and by sisters Jeannette Geraw and Rita.
Graveside services were held on April 12 at St. Theresa’s cemetery in Orleans with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda officiating. Full military honors were held.

Hector J. Descheneau
Hector J. Descheneau Jr., 57, of North Troy died peacefully April 6, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 29, 1952, in Newport, a son of Hector and Theresa (Bacon) Descheneau Sr.
On August 18, 1973, he married
Cheryl (Pudvah) Descheneau.
He was owner of Hector Descheneau Transport.
He held memberships with the Newport Elks Lodge #2155 of Newport, the American Legion Post #28 of North Troy, and the North Troy Fire Department.
Mr. Descheneau enlisted in the Vermont National Guard.
Among his hobbies he enjoyed snowmobiling, NASCAR races and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Descheneau, of North Troy; two children: Chris Descheneau and his wife, April, of North Troy, and Jeremy Descheneau and his wife, Katie, of Deering, New Hampshire; four grandchildren: Aaliyah, Kloey, Wyatt J., and Ryder J; his mother, Theresa Descheneau, of Derby; three brothers: Robert Descheneau and his wife, Marsha, of West Charleston, Richard Descheneau Sr., and his wife, Diane, of North Troy, and Dennis Descheneau and his wife, Kathy, of Newport Center; his mother-in-law, Matilda Pudvah, of North Troy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was predeceased by his father, Hector J. Descheneau Sr., in 1993.
Funeral services were held on April 8 at a Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Laurence Wall officiating. Interment followed in St. Ignatius cemetery in Lowell with military honors by members of the American Legion Post #28. Members of the Newport Elks Lodge #2155 conducted an Elks service.

Roger R. Fortin
Roger R. Fortin, 62, of Groton died on April 1, 2010, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
He was born on May 26, 1947, in Barton, a son of Jules and Albertine (Twofoot) Fortin.
Mr. Fortin was a self-employed logger for most of his life. He enjoyed farming and the outdoors.
He is survived by his children: Brian Fortin and his wife, Holly, of Berkshire, Jody Tilton of Fairfax, and Paula Tardiff of Cambridge; and by his brothers and a sister, Paul Fortin of Derby, Ernest Fortin and his wife, Rolande, of Enosburg, Dennis Fortin and his wife, Jackie, of Newport Center, Mary Haskins of Groton; a sister-in-law Judy Fortin of East Charleston; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother Jules Jr., and a sister Linda Lucas.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend John Genco officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on April 17 from 9 a.m. until the hour of the funeral service. Interment will follow at the St. Edward’s Catholic cemetery in Derby Line.

Harold Byron Nunn
Harold Byron Nunn, 86, of Stannard, died on April 8, 2010, at his residence.
He was born March 17, 1924, in Hardwick, a son of the late Byron and Elizabeth (Porter) Nunn.
He attended Hardwick Academy and continued his education at radio school in Waterbury.
In July 1967, he married
Mavis Winchester in Stannard. She died December 3, 2009.
Mr. Nunn was a licensed ham radio operator. He was an amateur philosopher, historian and anthropologist whose passion for the history of Native Americans in Vermont was relentless.
After retiring as a radio and television sales and serviceman in Hardwick, he and his wife moved to the Winchester family farm in Stannard.
Together they walked the land, hunted, gardened and sugared. As Mr. Nunn recently said, “Stannard was the perfect place to retire.”
His family, friends and neighbors will miss his stories of times and people gone by, as well as his warm and independent spirit.
Survivors include a step-brother-in-law, Stewart Daige, of Eden; a niece, Kelly Daige, of Eden and a nephew, Steve Daige, of North Carolina.
Burial was held on April 12, in the Stannard cemetery.

Glenn Eugene Chesney Jr.
Glenn Eugene Chesney Jr., 76, of Sherwood, Arkansas, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, in his home.
He was born March 1, 1934, in Island Pond to Glenn Eugene Chesney Sr. and Hilma Amanda (Hobbs) Chesney.
He graduated from Brighton High School in 1952.
He worked briefly at General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, before enlisting in the Air Force in 1953. He did basic training at Sampson Air Force Base in New York. He served in the U.S Air Force for 23 years.
He married
Jo Ann Baines of Dallas, Texas, in 1956. He was stationed in many places during his military career. Daughter Alta Lorraine was born in Tripoli, Libya; daughter Gayle Marie was born in San Antonio, Texas; and son Glenn Eugene III was born in the Panama Canal Zone. Other duty stations were Japan, Korea, Morocco, and various stateside locations, including Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire. He achieved a rank of master sergeant. He retired while at Little Rock Air Force Base. He and his family lived for many years in Cabot, Arkansas, where Mrs. Chesney died in 1982.
After the Air Force, Mr. Chesney worked at a variety of jobs, sometimes more than one at a time. While at Franklin Electric, he met Wilma Lois Dahl, recently widowed. They were married
in 1987. He finished out his working career by working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Little Rock.
"Bud, " as he was known to the Chesney side of the family, was always hard-working. As a teenager, he peeled pulp in the summer for a cousin who worked in the woods. He learned to drive doing farm work for several summers. He and a cousin hauled building materials and even a small cast-iron cookstove to a camp near the top of Bluff Mountain.
Mr. Chesney was a very active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas, where he served as a deacon, a teacher, and a board member. He was very involved with the senior citizen activities. He enjoyed visiting and keeping up with the activities of his family and his wife’s family.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 22 years, Wilma Lois Pierce Chesney; his son Glenn and his wife, Melisa, of Lonoke, Arkansas; daughter Gayle Bond of Senatobia, Mississippi; stepsons Harold Dahl and his wife, Linda, of Mount Vernon, Arkansas, and Dale Dahl and his wife, Gayla, of Batesville, Arkansas; step-daughter Connie Breckrenridge and her husband, Ronnie, of Burleson, Texas, sister Ardys Fisher and her husband, Lionel, of Addison; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; by brothers Gordon Glenn Chesney of Island Pond and Herbert Adolphus Chesney of Los Alamos, New Mexico; his wife Jo Ann; and daughter Alta.
Funeral services were held on May 14 at the First Assembly of God of Jacksonville with burial at the Arkansas State Veterans cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Assembly of God Church, or to Gideon's International.

Kenneth J. Elliott
Kenneth J. Elliott, 86, of Barton died on May 13, 2010, in Glover.
He was born February 19, 1924, in Newport, a son of Herbert and Ara (Reed) Elliott.
On June 12, 1947, he married
Grace Urie, who survives him.
He entered the U.S. Army where he served in the Tenth Mountain Division. In 1945, the division was sent to southern Italy to drive the German forces off the Apennine Mountains, helping to bring an end to World War II.
In June of 2009, the Vermont Ski Museum presented Mr. Elliott with a Vermont Ski Museum Hall of Fame Medal.
Mr. Elliott was a Barton village trustee for over 20 years, and a member of the Masonic F&AM Lodge #55 for over 60 years.
He enjoyed hunting and woodworking and made furniture. He was also a Boy Scout leader and worked on the Orleans County Fair.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Elliott of Barton; a son, Raymond Elliott, of Essex Junction; and by a sister, Florence Hamilton, of Newport.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Hugh F. Frazier
Hugh F. Frazier, 87, of Derby died on May 15, 2010, in Newport.
He was born March 17, 1923, in Berkshire, a son of James and Beatrice (Barup) Frazier.
On September 30, 1943, he married
Elaine Earle, who survives him.
Mr. Frazier was employed by Slalom Ski Wear in Newport. He retired in 1991.
He enjoyed watching baseball and wrestling on television, and he enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Frazier, of Derby; by two children: Esther Searles and her husband, Glenn, of Barton and Darlene Whipple and her husband, Bruce, of Derby; by his grandchildren: Scott Whipple and his wife, April, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Jason Whipple of San Francisco, California; by great-granddaughter Alice Whipple of Charlotte, North Carolina; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Frazier; brothers Austin and Kenneth; and by a sister, Frances Jones.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, at the Pine Grove cemetery in Newport with the Reverend Fred Barker officiating.

Raymond G. Heath
Raymond G. "Babe" "Fuzz" Heath, 84, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at his home in Essex Junction with his family at his bedside.
He was born on August 25, 1925, in Barton, the son of Clyde S. and Alice (Grant) Heath.
He graduated early from Barton Academy in order to enlist in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he served as a radio operator in the Pacific theater of operations on the USS Gendreau.
After the war, he attended the University of Vermont (UVM), graduating in 1950 with a degree in business. He was a member of the UVM baseball team and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
After graduation, Mr. Heath worked briefly at Champlain Valley Fruit. Soon after he was hired by General Electric and worked there until he retired in 1985.
Mr. Heath was an avid sportsman. He continued to play baseball and participated in league bowling for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and televised sports of every kind. His special passion was golf, and he was a member of the Orleans Country Club for over 40 years.
He was also very proud of his Navy years and attended yearly reunions with his USS Gendreau shipmates. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Heath is survived by his daughter Mary and her husband, John Stec, of St. Helens, Oregon; his sons Charles Heath and his wife, Maureen, of Bakersfield, and Jeff and Ray Heath of Essex Junction; grandchildren Jason and Justin Stec, Ryan Heath, Noelle Garvy, Robin Parker, and Shannon Heath; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and his sister Alice Celia and her husband, Fred, of Spring Hill, Florida.
In addition to his wife, Esther, he was predeceased by infant son Grant and brother Stanley Heath.
