Rhonda L. Whipple
Rhonda L. Whipple, 55, of St. Johnsbury died on August 21, 2010, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
She was born May 19, 1955, in Newport, a daughter of Gordon and Berdena (Macie) Maxwell.
She is survived by her companion and caregiver, Stephen Valeika; her children: Ashley Hutchinson and her husband, Eric, of Missouri, Lynsey “Bryn” Whipple of San Francisco, California, and Ryan Whipple and his wife, Dana, of St. Johnsbury; her mother, Berdena Maxwell, of Derby; by her three grandchildren: Anastasia, Bella and Ezekiel, all of Missouri; by her brother Barry Maxwell of Derby; her sister Kim Choquette and her husband, Dennis, of Derby; and by nieces and nephews Sean, Cody, and Jamie Maxwell, and Matthew and Derek Choquette.
Ms. Whipple loved her cat, and she had many special friends including Paulette Webster. The one thing she loved the most were her children. She was very proud of all of them. She loved people and always wanted everyone to be happy. She could find the good in everyone. If she’d been rich, she would have given a gift to everyone.
She did not have a lot of hobbies but she did love to yard sale. She would find little treasures at all of them. Knickknacks, stuffed animals — they were all precious to her. The show Hoarder was probably created just for her.
Funeral services were held on August 31 at the New Beginnings Christian Church in St. Johnsbury with Pastor Rick Menard officiating.

Valorie A. Bergeron
Valorie A. Bergeron, 50, of North Troy died on July 28, 2010, in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
She was born March 25, 1960, in Newport, a daughter of Frederick and Gloria (Merrill) Blay.
She graduated from North Country Union High School in 1978, and she was employed as a splicer by Columbia Forest Products of Newport.
Among her hobbies, she enjoyed sewing, kayaking, and hiking, and she loved all her animals.
She is survived by her children: Eliza Bergeron and Lance and Lydia Bergeron, all of Newport Center; by her mother, Gloria Blay, of North Troy; a brother Durwood Blay and his wife, Debbie, of Westfield; her fiancé, Robert Bonneau, and his son Brandon both of North Troy; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Frederick, in 1992 and by a brother Eldon in 1978.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 1, with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Interment followed in the North Troy Village cemetery.

Melissa A. Chamberlin
Melissa A. Chamberlin, 51, of Derby, the beloved wife of Roger Chamberlin, died peacefully on July 30, 2010, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
She was born on January 5, 1959, in Exeter, New Hampshire, a daughter of Roland Raymond and the late Estelle (Schwartz) Raymond.
She worked at Little G’s in Newport for many years.
She was the captain for Relay For Life and an ardent supporter of the Special Olympics Penguin Plunge, which she participated in since it started in Newport and also participated in later in Burlington.
She loved her family and derived great pleasure and comfort from her dogs Beau and Molly. She enjoyed cooking and baking, much to the delight of her family and friends. She also attempted to teach her husband the basics of her abilities. She loved to play croquet with her Sunhouse friends, and she enjoyed kayaking with her son and nephews.
She is survived by her husband, Roger, of Derby; her father, Roland Raymond, of Derby; her children: Jacob Raymond and his wife, Jill, of Newport and Linzy Vos of Colchester; by her sisters Teresa La Porte and her husband, David, and Vanessa Raymond, all of Coventry; her very good friend who just loved her spare ribs, Loretta Hunt; by several nieces and nephews; and by a very special little friend, Bailey. She was predeceased by her brother Michael and her mother, Estelle Raymond.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Eldon M. Laclair
Eldon M. Laclair, 66, of Glover died on July 28, 2010, at his home in Glover.
He was born May 22, 1944, in Sutton, a son of Kenneth and Marion (Campling) Laclair.
Mr. Laclair ran his used car business in Glover for 40 years. He enjoyed visiting with people and giving service to his customers, and he raised chickens for years as a hobby. Mr. Laclair enjoyed the simple things in life and especially his home and the Glover area and visits from his family and friends.
He is survived by his children: Jeffrey Laclair and his wife, Terri, of Sutton and Nicole Freehart and her husband, Eric, of Glover; by granddaughter Mikayla; by two brothers: Ervin Laclair and his wife, Lorraine, of Hadley, Massachusetts, and Terry Laclair and his companion, Annette, of Lyndon; and by several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, August 6, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 12 Elm Street in Barton.

Diane Mary Morin
Diane Mary Morin, 60, of Troy died on July 28, 2010, at her home in Troy surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 19, 1950, in Newport, a daughter of Hughbert and Beatrice (Todd) Jacobs.
On November 9, 1968, she married
Roger J. Morin who survives her.
Mrs. Morin graduated from North Country Union High School in the class of 1970. For 30 years she was a bookkeeper for her husband’s business, Roger’s Auto Service of Troy.
Her hobbies included traveling, especially in the recreational vehicle, watching birds, collecting figurines, working in her flower garden, and she enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Troy Area Lions Club and the American Legion Auxillary Jay Peak Post #28.
She is survived by her husband, Roger J. Morin, of Troy; her two children: Lisa Grimes and her husband, Edward, of Albany, and Richard Morin and his wife, Jennifer, of Newport; by her grandchildren: Ashley Parker, Jennifer and Jackie Grimes, Christopher, Riley, and Gabriel Morin; by her great-grandchildren: Abigail, Destinee, and Payton; by her sisters: Donna McMahon of Michigan, Janice Jacobs and her companion, Buddy Lontine, of Newport, and Marlene Percy and her husband, Rudolph, of Coventry; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by the following brothers and sisters: Lorraine Lamarre, Malcolm Jacobs, Martha Royer, Melvin Jacobs, Edwin Jacobs, and infants Sheila and Sanford Jacobs.
Funeral services were held on July 31 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Troy with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating a Mass. Interment followed in St. Ignatius cemetery in Lowell.

Evelyn F. Thompson
Evelyn F. Thompson, 79, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, formerly of Brownington, died on July 25, 2010, at her home in Chelmsford.
Ms. Thompson was employed at one time by the Brownington Elementary School as a hot lunch cook and bus driver. She was also employed for a time by the former Poole’s Nursing Home in Barton. After she moved to Massachusetts to be with her daughter, she was employed by the Whistler Corp. in Westford where she was an electronic technician.
She was a former member of the Brownington Grange and the Orleans American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and her many vacations in Florida.
She is survived by her daughter Gail Thompson of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; her sister Lennie Emerson of Orleans; and by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 6, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on August 6 from noon until the hour of the funeral.

Alden D. Walcott
Alden D. Walcott, 81, of Essex Junction died on July 24, 2010, in Burlington.
He was born on March 21, 1929, in Glover, a son of the late Dale B. and Marjorie (Bean) Walcott.
Mr. Walcott had deep roots in Glover, where his father ran the general store. He graduated from Barton Academy and the University of Vermont. He earned a master's degree from St. Michael's College in 1969.
In 1952, he began a 39-year teaching career at the Essex Junction High School, serving as chairman of the science department for many years. He also coached baseball, soccer, basketball, and golf and taught driver’s education for 25 summers.
Mr. Walcott married
Marilyn (Rublee) Sharp in 1957. They shared a home together in Essex Junction for 51 years. They spent summers at their cottage on Shadow Lake in Glover; after retirement, they spent winters in Venice, Florida.
Mr. Walcott enjoyed his family, skiing on a cold winter afternoon, traveling in the U.S. and beyond, gardening, and watching the patterns of nature. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He served as president of local teachers’ associations and the Chittenden County Teachers’ Credit Union. He was on the state Teachers Retirement Board for 16 years, serving as chairman for ten years. He was committed to his students and was honored twice as an outstanding educator. The greenhouse at the Essex High School was dedicated to him in May 2010.
He leaves his wife, Marilyn; his children: Cindy and her husband, Michael Alger, of Grand Isle, Carlton and his wife, Laure, of Essex Junction, Stephen and his wife, Shari, of Fairfax, and Mary and her husband, Jonathan Lasher, of Columbia, Maryland; by grandchildren: Asa and Emily Alger, Sarah Walcott, Keith Walcott and his wife, Kaitie, and Ashley Walcott, Kyle and Jack Gagnon, and Ben and Sophie Lasher; by great-grandchildren Kelcee and Reece Cadorette; by his sister-in-law Leah (Rublee) Cramton; by his nephew Jeffrey Cramton of Springfield, Massachusetts; and by cousin Robert Bean and his wife, Diane, of Glover. He was predeceased by his sister Charlotte Locke of Barton.

Rita Collins
Rita Collins, 88, of Westfield died at her home on Friday, July 17, 2009, after a long illness.
Mrs. Collins was born April 5, 1921, in Troy, a daughter of Peter and Orpha (Millett) Breault.
She and her husband, Durward, spent most of their lives in the Northeast Kingdom.
After attending school and earning her teaching certificate she taught in several towns including Lowell, Troy, and Newport at Sacred Heart Elementary School.
She liked to read, tend to her flower garden, and go for walks and rides around the area. When she was younger, she and her husband enjoyed going to dances and listening to country music.
She is survived by her husband, Durward; by her children: Carolyn Lesperance and her husband, Gordon, of Westfield, William Collins of Westfield, Paul Collins and his wife, Ann, of Newport, Susan Pion and her husband, Gerard, of Lowell and Pamila Niles and her husband, Stuart, of Shirley, Massachusetts; by 15 grandchildren; by 23 great-grandchildren; by her sister Beatrice Jones of St. Johnsbury; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandchildren “Little” Gerard Pion and Lisa Collins; by five brothers; and by four sisters.
Funeral services were held at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Lowell July 21 with the Reverend Henry Mlinganisa celebrating at Mass of Christian Burial. Interment followed at the St. Ignatius cemetery.

Rio A. Desmarais
Rio A. Desmarais, 89, beloved husband of Rose, died in Newport on Friday, July 17, 2009.
Mr. Desmarais was born April 21, 1920, in Barton, a son of Willie and Parmelie (Perron) Desmarais.
He and his wife were married
in 1943 and farmed in Irasburg and West Glover for more than 15 years.
He worked for Hank Sanders, Puss Royer, and Andy Bonneau as a farm equipment salesman. He opened his own business, Desmarais Farm Equipment in Orleans, and operated it until he sold it to his sons. He continued to help his sons.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling where they spent winters in Florida. He loved his family and delighted in having conversations with them and his friends. He was a man who enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons Roger Desmarais and his wife, Maureen, and Rene Desmarais and his wife, Kathy; by grandchildren: Andre Desmarais and and his wife, Kim, of Barton, Cynthia Kelley and her husband, John, of Palm Coast, Florida, Jacqueline Desmarais of Waltham, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Bashar and her husband, Greg, of Trumble, Connecticut; by eight great-grandchildren; and by his sister Juliette Leduc of Lyndonville. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and O’Neil Desmarais; and by two sisters, Simone and Corrine.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Theresa’s cemetery in Orleans.
