Dwight Willey Bowen
Dwight Willey Bowen, 92, of the Newport Health Care Center and formerly of Holland, died on August 27, 2010, in Newport.
He was born March 4, 1918, in Newport Center, a son of Raymond and Myrtie (Pettingill) Bowen.
On November 4, 1945, he married
Evelyn Graves who predeceased him on July 26, 2002.
Mr. Bowen served his country during World War II. At one time, he was a driver for General Douglas MacArthur.
He loved fishing and hunting with his grandsons, and he very much enjoyed working with his son on his race car.
He worked at Butterfield’s Tap and Die for may years and for Newport Cablevision. He also did carpentry work.
He is survived by five children: Don Bowen and his wife, Rosemarie, of Orleans, Dolores Niles and her husband, Frank, of Newport Center, Deborah English of West Charleston, Winky Crowe of Derby, and Delsaye Bowen and her companion, Chris Hackett, of Derby Line; by 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Delight Sanville, on May 5, 1999; by his grandson Chad Crowe on December 30, 1993; by two brothers, Arland Bowen Sr. and Stanley Bowen; and by his sister Marjorie.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel at 37 Lake Road in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on September 4 from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral. Military honors will be held immediately following the service at the funeral home.

Ruth (George) Brooks
Ruth (George) Brooks, 86, of Newport died on August 28, 2010, in Glover.
She was born May 30, 1924, the third child of Hawley and Marjory (Wheatley) George.
She attended Thetford Academy and Lyndon Normal School and taught in Glover and Westmore.
In 1947, she married
Neil Brooks, who predeceased her in 1974.
Over the years, she worked various jobs. In Glover, she worked at the Busy Bee, Cook’s Poultry, and at the store and post office. She was also church treasurer, custodian of the church and town hall, and headed the neighborhood collections for flower memorials. She also worked in Barton at Moore’s Market. After her husband’s death, she moved to Newport where she acquired more friends through her employment and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In Newport she managed the senior meal site for many years. She also managed the governor’s mansion while she lived there. She was a volunteer driver for Rural Community Transportation, making house calls to shut-ins.
She enjoyed participation in the variety shows of old times and also the jam sessions with friends from Newport Place where she lived until she went to the Union House in Glover. She looked forward to those after being in the nursing home.
She is survived by two children: Donna Dopp and son-in-law Lawrence of Barton, and Penny Brooks of Plainfield, New Hampshire; by three grandchildren: Kevin Dopp and his friend Cheryl of Derby Line, Corey Dopp Sr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Barton and Melissa Dopp of St. Johnsbury; by the following great-grandchildren: Corey Dopp Jr., Arion Dopp, Ashley and Bradley Dopp, and Jeremy Buckland; and by grandcats Gladdie, Bert, and LoulouBob; and by granddog Tootsie. She was predeceased by a son, Douglas Brooks, in 1989; by brothers Gordon and Ronald George; and by a sister, Dorothy Bacon.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 3, at the Westlook cemetery in Glover with the Reverend Joan Vincent officiating.

Erma Laura (Gerhart) Foster
Erma Laura (Gerhart) Foster died suddenly on August 26, 2010, in Holland.
She was the devoted wife of Robert, beloved mother of Pamela Sue and Laura Ann, cherished grandmother of Danielle Laura, and dear cousin of Marion Gilmour of Toronto. She is survived by many friends and relatives in Canada.
Born January 5, 1932, Mrs. lived most of her life in Buffalo, New York, and enjoyed many happy years at the family summer home on Thunder Bay, in Ridgeway, Ontario, where she was a member of the Lionesses and served on the board of the Fort Erie Figure Skating Club.
Mrs. Foster liked crossword puzzles, solitaire, gardening, and hummingbirds, and she particularly enjoyed spending time with her beloved granddaughter Danielle.

Jamie D. Hisman
Jamie D. Hisman, 24, of Newport Center died suddenly in Troy on August 29, 2010.
He was born September 13, 1985, in Newport, the beloved son of Karen Hisman and the late Dean Hisman.
He was employed as a grade foreman at the Vermont Site Works in Stowe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling, and was generally an outdoors type of a guy.
Mr. Hisman liked to work but especially liked to play. He was a very outgoing person who enjoyed family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone.
He is survived by his mother, Karen Hisman, of Newport Center; two sisters: Jennifer Poulin and her husband, Josh, of Derby, and Joanna Hisman and her companion, Paul Patenaude Jr., of Newport Center; by his grandparents Dick and Bev Hisman of Westfield; his girlfriend Shauna Buck; his aunts and uncles: Gary and Laurie Hisman of North Troy, Larry Hisman of Westfield, Kevin Pope and his companion, Peggy Randall, of Michigan, Debbie Clark of Connecticut, and Jody Pope of Derby; and by two nieces, Mya and Star Poulin.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 3, with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating.

Albert Dwight Kinney
Albert Dwight Kinney, 62, of Derby Line died on August 21, 2010, in White River Junction.
He was born July 29, 1948, in Newport, a son of William and Joyce (Tobin) Kinney.
On September 4, 1971, he married
Diana Tice who survives him.
Mr. Kinney was employed as a mail clerk at the Derby Line Post Office for 20 years. He retired in 2008.
He was in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts. He held memberships with the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
His hobbies included fishing, reading, and working on his computer.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Kinney, of Derby Line; by his mother-in-law Anna Tice of Derby Line; by two children: Johnathan Kinney and his wife, Andrea, of Derby and Kevin Kinney of Holland; by four grandchildren: Victoria, Makayla, Jorja and Madison; and by three brothers: Jimmy Kinney of New Hampshire, Robert Kinney of Beebe Plain, and Ricky Kinney of Lyndonville.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Steven Van Morrow
Steven Van Morrow, 72, of Newport died on August 4, 2010, in Newport.
He was born August 31, 1937, in Newport, a son of Earl and Everald (Stevens) Morrow.
Mr. Morrow was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and he received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Vermont. He was employed by the state of Vermont and also the town of Peacham as a janitor.
He is survived by his son Daniel Morrow of Newport and numerous cousins in St. Johnsbury and the greater Newport area.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Sylvia L. Moulton
Sylvia L. Moulton, 96, of Morgan died on August 24, 2010, in Derby.
She was born November 8, 1913, in Irasburg, a daughter of Alfred and Martha (Newman) Curtis.
On September 28, 1932, she married
Raymond Moulton who predeceased her in 1976.
She was a member of the Congregational Church in East Charleston and the Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed cooking, knitting, crocheting, and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her children: Charles Moulton of Morgan, Coralie Dow and her husband, Ted, of Bennington, Charlotte Poulin and her husband, Richard, of Austin, Texas, Clair Moulton and his wife, Marlene, of East Charleston, and Cary Moulton and his wife, Marylou, of East Ryegate; by five grandchildren: Kim Wilkes, Laura Stacey, Paula Poulin, Lynn Huntington, and Susan Moulton; by nine great-grandchildren: Tyler, Tiegen and Cary Moulton, Dustin and Brandon Huntington, Molly and Laura Wilkes, Megan and Erin Cruickshank, Alicia McDonald, and Jerimiah Stacey. She was predeceased by a brother, Leo Curtis; by half-brothers Homer, Ed and Eugene; by half-sister Mary Catherine Hopkins; by her grandson Scott McDonald; and by daughter-in-law Maxine Moulton.
Funeral services were held on August 28 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Interment followed in Hillside cemetery in East Charleston.

Helen Lydia Smith
Helen Lydia Smith, 84, of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, died on August 30, 2010, in Goffstown, New Hampshire.
She was born August 26, 1926, in Hartford, a daughter of Charles and Rowena (Knapp) Preston.
She married
Leigh S. Smith who predeceased her.
Mrs. Smith graduated from West Lebanon High School.
Her hobbies included making beaded jewelry, crocheting baby outfits, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. She played in a country music band with her brother Paul for several years.
She is survived by her children: Stanley E. Smith of Mont Vernon, Ellen S. Woodard of Lebanon, New Hampshire, and Pamela J. Bonalumi of Las Cruces, New Mexico; by the following grandchildren: Lori Doyle of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, Kari Labrie of Cornish, New Hampshire, Jennifer Bonalumi of Las Cruces, and Wyatt Bonalumi of Las Cruces; by the following great-grandchildren: Rossi Doyle, Riese Doyle, and Lukus Labrie; by a brother Paul Preston of Riverview, Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a great-grandson Ryan Labrie.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 2, at the Pine Grove cemetery in Newport.

Tristan H.A. Southworth
Tristan Howard Altman Southworth, 21, of Walden, died on August 22, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained in a battle in Afghanistan.
He was born on October 19, 1988, in Denville, New Jersey. He moved to Walden in August of 1990 with his mom. He went to Walden Elementary School and graduated from Hazen Union High School in 2007. He played soccer, basketball, and baseball throughout high school.
He joined the Vermont Army National Guard during his junior year. Upon graduation, he spent one year at the University of Colorado at Boulder. In 2009, he was activated for deployment to Afghanistan.
Mr. Southworth enjoyed all aspects of life. He loved to be around family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved children and German shepherds. He had a special love for the game of baseball and a strong need to serve his country.
He is survived by his mom and dad, Julie and Michael Southworth; by brothers Matt and Robert Southworth; grandparents Zollie and Maren Altman of South Wheelock and Keith and Kathleen Southworth of West Pawlet; by aunts, uncles and cousins, who held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his “brothers, ” still deployed in Afghanistan.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, September 1, at 10 a.m. in the Hardwick Hazen Union gym. Interment with full military honors followed in the Main Street cemetery Hardwick.
