Rolande Rita Fortin
Rolande Rita Fortin, 60, of West Charleston died suddenly on August 5, 2010.
She was born on June 8, 1950, a daughter of Roland and Columbe (Faucher) Fortin.
She is survived by her parents, Roland and Columbe Fortin, of Derby; by her beloved companion, Reginald Smith, of West Charleston; her daughter Tammy Fortin of Texas; her son Gilbert Fortin and his wife, Erin, of Derby; her grandson Jeremiah Fortin, who was her pride and joy; and by her siblings Rosaire and his wife, Brenda; Joseph and his wife, Lillian; Andre and his wife, Cathy; Francine Martin and her husband, Earl; Gilles and his wife, Mary; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Norman.
There were no public funeral services.
Frank W. Hamilton
Frank W. Hamilton, 90, of Indianapolis, Indiana, a longtime teacher and coach, died August 17, 2010.
Born in Newport on July 20, 1920, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and taught at Indianapolis area schools, including IPS Schools 55, 76, 79 and Washington High School and retired after 30 years from Speedway High School. After retirement, he also taught and coached at schools in Newport and Burlington.
He was a graduate of Indiana University. He received a master’s degree in 1947, a bachelor’s degree in 1946. He graduated from Newport High School in 1937. He also attended Green Mountain College in Poultney, Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts, and the University of New Hampshire in Durham, New Hampshire. In 1950-1951 he was an exchange teacher in Great Britain. He was inducted into the Green Mountain College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986.
He was an active volunteer at area hospitals. He was a member of Indiana University’s 1946 baseball team and organized and coached numerous youth athletic programs, including those at Tabernacle Presbyterian Church, where he earned the Dawson Award for his dedication. He coached baseball, softball, football, track, wrestling, and was an athletic trainer. He was a longtime member and elder of the Speedway Christian Church.
He is survived by his two children: his son, Bruce Hamilton (and wife Diana) of Coventry, and Holly Hamilton (and partner Marti Meeker) of Danville, Indiana; four grandchildren: Nicholas and Matthew Hamilton of Bozeman, Montana, Katherine Hamilton of Irvine, California, and Samuel Hamilton of Newport; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Sam Hamilton and Kate Mildred Williams Hamilton; two brothers, Sam and James Hamilton; a sister, Helen Allen; and two wives, Mary Francis Parsons Hamilton and Betty Lou Neal Hamilton.
Frank had a special gift for maintaining and extensively chronicling lifelong relationships with friends, colleagues, family and former students. This was evidenced by his penchant for social networking, excerpting articles and writing letters. First and foremost, it was these relationships that he cherished and inspired him.
Services were on Sunday, August 22. Interment will take place at Pine Grove cemetery, Newport.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Milford Earl Lyon
Milford Earl Lyon, 98, of Derby died on August 16, 2010, in Newport.
He was born August 21, 1911, in Brownington, a son of Oscar and Annie (Converse) Lyon.
On January 18, 1942, he married
Estelle Foster who predeceased him on July 26, 2005.
He graduated from Barton High School and entered the U.S. Army where he served his country during World War II. Mr. Lyon was employed for 25 years by the former B. F. Moore Co. of Newport. He held membership with the National Rifle Association and the Rod and Gun club.
He is survived by two daughters: Linda Provost and her husband, Arthur, of Jay, and Sandra Lee Shepard and her husband, Lawrence, of Essex Junction; by the following grandchildren: Scott Provost and his wife, Carolyn, of Bozarah, Connecticut, David Provost and his wife, Alicia, of Red Lodge, Montana, Kimberly Lindner of Newport, Erik Shepard of Essex, Kelly Mills of South Burlington; by 14 great-grandchildren; and by three great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a grandson Christopher Provost; by a brother Austin Lyon; and by a sister Annie Collette.
A graveside service was held August 20 at the Lakeview cemetery in Westmore with the Reverend Anne Squire officiating.

Felix A. Turtur
Felix A. Turtur, 62, of Jay died on Friday, August 20, 2010, in Newport.
He had been a self-employed carpenter, and was a former co-owner of the Snowline Lodge in Jay until 1986 with his wife, Anne.
He was born on November 23, 1947, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, a son of Felix and Liselotte (Lippmann) Turtur.
He graduated from Monmouth College in Monmouth, New Jersey, with a degree in education. A Navy veteran, he married
Anne Keenzel on February 9, 1974.
A devoted family man, Mr. Turtur was known to many of his friends as Phil. He enjoyed skiing, surfing, camping, fishing, and doing carpentry work. He had been an educator in Irvington, New Jersey, and Jay. He had also worked at Agri-Mark in Troy and Franklin Foods in Enosburg.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jessica Turtur and Jacqueline Turtur; a brother Ronald Turtur and his wife, Marie, of New Jersey; a sister Karen Amann and her husband, George, of New Jersey; and by several nieces and nephews.
There will be a funeral mass at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in North Troy.

Wilma W. Tyler
Wilma W. Tyler, 94, of Jericho, formerly of West Charleston, died on August 23, 2010, in Barton.
She was born April 24, 1916, in Baldwins Mills, Quebec, a daughter of Herbert and Nellie (Bragg) Green.
On August 22, 1934, she married
Fred C. Tyler who predeceased her on March 31, 1983.
Mrs. Tyler was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church and also the Ladies Guild at the church. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed doing word puzzles and going fishing with her late husband. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Sykes of Holland and Gail Nadeau of Jericho; by 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; by daughter-in-law Carole Tyler of North Stratford, New Hampshire; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Clyde Tyler, on June 29, 2010, and by the following brothers and sisters: Charlie Green, Earl Green, Pearl Peavey, Beatrice Trucott Wallace, Bert Green (Bucky), Bernice Hawse, Gwendolyne Benjamin, Vatvia McCarthy, Roland Green and Douglas Green.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 28, at the Free Will Baptist Church in West Charleston with the Reverend Richard Whitehill officiating. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the hour of the funeral. Interment will follow in the West Charleston cemetery.

Hunter J. Blake
Hunter J. Blake, 11 months old, died at his home in North Troy on August 31, 2010, after a long battle with Krabbe disease. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Hunter loved being outside listening to the birds and to music. He loved being held and cuddled.
He was born September 18, 2009, in Newport, a beloved son of Meagan Blake and Jeremy Brown. Besides his parents, he is survived by his stepfather, Joshua Cloney, of North Troy; his maternal grandmothers, April Blake, of Coventry and Sherri Ingalls of West Glover; by his great-grandmothers Janette Patten of Coventry and Doris Brown of West Charleston; by his uncles Jamie Patten of Nashville, Tennessee, and Justin Blake of Coventry; by his aunt Tonya Brown of North Troy; and by several great-aunts, uncles and cousins and special cousins Samantha and Kayla Wright. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, John F. Blake Jr.
Funeral services were held on Saturday September 4, 2010, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home with the Reverend David Lisner officiating. Interment followed in the Coventry cemetery.

Shirley Ann Blanchard
Shirley Ann Blanchard, 68, of North Troy died suddenly on September 2, 2010, in Newport.
She was born September 9, 1941, in Addison, a daughter of Hugh and Marion (Nimblett) Longey.
On January 21, 1963, she married
Roland Blanchard Sr. who survives her.
Mrs. Blanchard was a pharmaceutical inspector for Mylan Tech, and at one time she was employed by Kinney Drugs in St. Albans and Ethan Allen Manufacturing. She graduated from Vergennes Academy in Vergennes.
Her hobbies included playing bingo, going to the senior center, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Roland Blanchard Sr., of North Troy; by her children: Julie Pion and her husband, Jeremy, of Lowell, Roland Blanchard Jr. of Lowell, Kenricka (Kricket) Blanchard and her companion, Joe Rollo, of North Troy, and Roxanne Major and her husband, Gary, of Lowell; by the following grandchildren: Ryan Folgherait and Ally, Amber Folgherait, Kaitlynn King, Danielle King and Rob, Ashley Blanchard, Kayla Blanchard, Kelsey Blanchard-Rollo and Bryant, and Nicholas Hunt and Kristi Farrar; by two great-granddaughters, Jade Marie Tuttle and Emiley Farrar; by sister-in-law Pauline Sweet of Enosburg; brother-in-law Steven Blanchard of Enosburg; by many aunts, uncles and cousins; and by special friends Hilda Duprey, Marion Bruce, Nancy Pelletier, Bev Hisman, Liz Farley, and many others. She was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Pudvah; sisters-in-law Bea Spencer, Barb Gerrow, and Mildred Blanchard; and brother-in-law Larry Blanchard.
A graveside service will be held at the Albany Village cemetery on Friday, September 10, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Nathan Strong officiating.

James E. DeLude
James E. DeLude, 62, of Newport died on August 31, 2010, in Newport.
He was born May 23, 1948, in Northfield, a son of Edward and Flora (Phillips) DeLude. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1966 and attended UCLA Berkeley in California where he received a master’s degree in behavioral psychology. He was a well known personal accountant. He served time in the U. S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He was an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing, and traveling.
He is survived by two daughters: Jamie DeLude and her husband, Juan Aristizabal, of Malden, Massachusetts, and Jasmine DeLude of Lyndon Corner; by a granddaughter, Juliana Gentley; by his beloved companion of seven years, Normie Gagne, of Newport; by her two sons: Alain and Donald Berube; by his two sisters: Mary Clifford of Northfield and Diana DeLude of Montpelier; by his nieces April DeLude and Crystal Barrows; by his nephews Eric Clifford and Bryson DeLude; and by his dog Misty as well as several close friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport.

Verla Edith Drake
Verla Edith Drake, 90, of Derby died on September 1, 2010, in Newport.
She was born April 23, 1920, in Orleans, a daughter of Elmer and Greta (Dunham) Hilliard.
On December 14, 1940, she married
Phil Drake Sr. who predeceased her in 1996.
Mrs. Drake was a member of the Navy Grange and the American Legion Auxiliary where she was also past president. She hooked and braided rugs, and she also hooked Currier and Ives pictures into rugs and sewed for many different people. She enjoyed growing flowers, and she was a caregiver for several different family members. She enjoyed her independence, including obtaining her driver’s license at the age of 70. She was delighted with family gatherings and visits.
She is survived by her children: Phil Drake and his wife, Theresa, of Newport, Marvin Drake and his wife, Barbara Strich, of St. Johnsbury, and Gary Drake and his wife, Alice, of Fletcher; by seven grandchildren: Amanda Kennedy and her husband, Todd, of Virginia, Abbey Drake of Vermont, Paula Gratton and her husband, Ronald, of Vermont, Scott Drake of New York, Douglas Drake and his wife, Tammy, of North Troy, Rhonda Drake of Vermont, Zander Drake and his companion, Elizabeth Rowley, of New Hampshire; five great-grandchildren: Tia Drake of Newport Center, Nathaniel Drake of North Troy, Emma Drake of North Troy, Paul Kennedy of Virginia, and Josephine Drake of Bethlehem, New Hampshire; and by a sister Dorothy Whipple of Newport. She was predeceased by two brothers, Maynard and Warren Hilliard.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 5, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert Cargill officiating. Interment followed in the Derby cemetery.

Gilberte Pauline Gagner
Gilberte Pauline Gagner, 86, of Derby died on September 2, 2010, in Newport.
She was born June 25, 1924, in Kateville, Quebec, a daughter of Albert and Florence (Paquette) Mongeau.
On August 21, 1948, she married
Armand Gagner who predeceased her in 2002. Mrs. Gagner was very dedicated to her husband of over 50 years, and she loved caring for her family.
She is survived by her children: Robert Gagner and his wife, Lisa, of Ascutney and Jocelyne Capron of Derby; by seven grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Gaston Mongeau and his wife, Wanita, of Quebec and Valdor Mongeau and his wife, Denise, of Stanstead, Quebec; by three sisters: Claire Prince of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Aline Cloutier and her husband, Real, of North Carolina, and Fernande Langevin and her husband, Adrien, of Montreal, Quebec; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Mongeau, and by a sister, Realta.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8, at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Derby Line where a Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home at 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport on September 8 from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in St. Edward’s cemetery.
