William H. Rose Sr.
COUNCIL -- William Harold Rose Sr., 41, of the Combs Ridge section, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Richlands, a lifelong resident of the Council area and a 1975 graduate of Council High School.
He was member of Indian Creek Freewill Baptist Church, a bulldozer operator with R.C. Lumber Company and a member of Davenport Rescue Squad.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Bostic Rose; two daughters, Chasity Powers, Council, and Sylvia Rose, of the home; three sons, Billy Bostic, Davenport, and William Harold Rose Jr. and Justin Rose, both of the home; his father, Elbert Rose, Council; one sister, Velva Bostic, Vansant; and two grandchildren.

John A. Sturgill
DRYDEN -- John A. Sturgill, 94, died Monday, Dec. 29, 1997, in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington, W.Va.
He was a native of Kentucky, had lived in Lee County for over 65 years and had lived in Huntington, W.Va., for the past few years with his daughter.
He was a retired farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Leo Sturgill, Casstown, Ohio, and George Sturgill, Dayton, Ohio; two daughters, Cora Caldwell, Dayton, and Mary Mounts, Huntington, W.Va.; two stepsons, Frank Bledsoe, Boise, Idaho, and Billy Bledsoe, Brooksville, Fla.; four brothers, Henry Sturgill, Chester Sturgill and Woodrow Sturgill, all of Dryden, and Lloyd Sturgill, Dandridge, Tenn.; two sisters, Nora Bartley, Clayton, Ind., and Laura Maggard, Xenia, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Debra C. Yarbrough
GOODVIEW, Va. -- Debra Carol Singleton Yarbrough, 45, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at her home.
She was the manager of a local credit union.
Survivors include her husband, Gary Wayne Yarbrough Sr.; two sons, Gary W. Yarbrough Jr., of the home, and Jack Thomas, Vinton, Va.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Donald "Pete" Singleton, Bristol, Virginia; one brother, Larry R. Singleton, Abingdon; three sisters, Linda Whitt, Roanoke, Susan Henley, Bristol, Virginia, and Sheila Mullins, Bristol, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Barnhardt Baptist Church, Stewartsville, Va.

PENNINGTON GAP -- Maude
Williams Barney, 91, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Lee County Community Hospital.
She was a retired clerk with Piggly Wiggly, a member of Admant Baptist Church, Pennington Gap, and the widow of John K. Barney.
Survivors include four sons, Harry K., Jon Christopher and Charles Daniel, all of Pennington Gap, and David Lynn, Lebanon; two daughters, Jean BaumGardner and Patricia Peters, both of Pennington Gap; one sister, Loretta Cox, Dryden; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Irving A. Beauchamp Jr.
LEBANON -- Irving Alonzo Beauchamp Jr., 64, formerly of Tampa, Fla., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Russell County Medical Center.
He attended school in Castlewood, was a graduate of West Point and served in the U.S. Army where he achieved the rank of major.
He was owner of Alonzo Gallery and was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Carson Beauchamp.
Survivors include one son, Robert Beauchamp, Sewanee, Tenn.; one daughter, Susan Beauchamp, Lebanon; his mother, Sarah Thomas Beauchamp, Lebanon; one brother, Col. Thomas E. Beauchamp, Fishers, Ind.; one sister, Carolyn Capelli, Hunting, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.

ABINGDON -- Ms. Anna Sue Boardwine, 72, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
Survivors include two sons, Eddie Boardwine, Saltville, and Roger Boardwine, Marion; two brothers, Hack Henderson, North Port, Fla., and George Henderson, Key West, Fla.; one sister, Helen Poston, North Port, Fla.; one granddaughter; two step-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT -- Howard
Smith Boardwine, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Greystone Health Care Center, Blountville.
He was a native of Russell County, Va., had lived most of his life in Kingsport, and was retired from Tennessee Eastman Company after 37 years of service.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Mildred Boardwine; one daughter, Wilma Jean Ramsey, Kingsport; two sisters, Beulah Cook and Hazel Hooper, both of Manasses, Va.; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; expected twin great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

Brady Boyd
BEE -- Brady Boyd, 70, died Wednesday. Dec. 31, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Buchanan County, had lived in Dickenson and Buchanan Counties his entire life and attended Primitive Baptist Church.
He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed with Clinchfield Coal Company, and was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1256, Duty, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ora Breeding Boyd; four daughters, Carol Borders and Kimberly Edwards, both of Haysi, Glenda Browning, Hendersonville, Tenn., and Debbie O'Quinn, Lebanon; three sons, Maynard "Sonny" Boyd and Ronnie Boyd, both of Adamsville, Ala., and Denny Boyd, Davenport, Va.; seven sisters, Fannie Boyd, Davenport, Bonnie Barton and Frances Gilbert, both of Bee, Ruth Woods and Imogene Amos, both of Haysi, Arbutus Rasnick, Ocala, Fla., and Fern La Plante, Troy, Mich.; three brothers, Jennings Boyd, Eddie Boyd and Ferrell Boyd, all of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

HICKORY, N.C. -- Mrs. Annie E. Cassidy, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, in Frye Medical Center, Hickory.
She was the widow of James E. "Dutch" Cassidy.

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Landon B. Cox, 53, of Young Street, died December 31, 1997.
He was a native of Bristol, Virginia, then moved in 1968 from Bristol, Tennessee to Central Florida. He was a member of Aloma United Methodist Church, past president of Orlando Claims Association and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly K. Cox; one daughter, Kelly Cox, Orlando; his mother, Violette Cox, Bristol, Tennessee; two sisters, Robin Harkleroad, Fredricksburg, Va., and Rosemary Pargiter,
Johnson City.

ABINGDON -- Melvin Ralph Harless, 58, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Spoon Gap Freewill Baptist Church.
He was an employee of Wright Equipment Company for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne "Judy" Harless; one son, Wayne Harless, Abingdon; one brother, Gilmer Harless, Meadowview; one sister, Patricia Gemmell, Christiansburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
