Mildred Goodwin Leonard, 84, of 108 Oak Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
She was of the Baptist faith and lived all her life in the Bristol area.
She was retired from Bristol Regional Medical Center as a nursing assistant Sr.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Canter and Barbara Eller, both of Bristol Virginia, and Patsy Frye, Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Donald Goodwin and Wayne Goodwin, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Richard Goodwin, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two sisters, Florence Allison, Bristol Tennessee, and Mabel Moschella, S. Norwalk, Conn.; two brothers, Hubert Thomas, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Howard Thomas, Bristol Tennessee; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ST. PAUL, Va. -- Doshia Deliah Bise Light, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in Norton Community Hospital in Norton.
She was of the Baptist faith and a lifelong resident of Wise County, Va.
She was the widow of Edward Light.
Survivors include one daughter; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Vestel Moore
TAZEWELL, Va. -- Vestel Moore, 86, of Dogwood Estates, formerly of the Thompson Valley section of Tazewell County and the Dismal River section of Buchanan County, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in a Tazewell, Va., hospital.
He was a native of Floyd County, Ky.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA Local No. 7327 at Jewell Valley, Va.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Beulah French, Wooster, Ohio, Mrs. Wilma Bailey, Abingdon, and Mrs. Betty Lane, Richlands; four sons, Bill Moore, Mavisdale, Va., Donald Moore, Dice, Ky., Ronald Moore, Oakwood, Va., and James Moore, Pounding Mill, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Garber, Ohio; one brother, Chester Moore, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

RICHMOND -- Victoria Niece, 70, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at her home.
She was of the Baptist faith and was the widow of Ambrose Niece.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Powers, Beaver Dam, Va.; two sons, Jimmy Niece and Billy Niece, both of Richmond; one sister, Stella Kazee, Pound; one brother, Harold Anderson, Richmond; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

DAMASCUS -- John Willard Smith, 75, of 32012 Hollyfield Road, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at his home.
He was a native of Washington County, Va.
He was a retired employee of Bristol Metal and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He attended Laurel Community Church.
Survivors include his wife, Zelma Gay Smith; one daughter, Connie Baker, Knoxville; one son, John Wayne Smith, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Frances Vestal, Blountville, and Mary Rouse, Bristol Tennessee; one brother, William Samual Smith, Waterford, Mich.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

William L. Snavely
WYTHEVILLE -- William Luther "Bill" Snavely, 78, of 600 Fairview Road, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
He was a native of Wythe County.
He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat, where he served as a councilman and trustee.
He was a past member of the Wythe County Rescue Squad, a U.S. Navy veteran and a shop foreman at new car dealerships in Wythe and Smyth counties for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hurst Snavely; one son, Michael Snavely, Marion; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ray (Lynda) Dossett, Morehead City, N.C.; one stepson, Robert Hurt, Smithfield, Va.; two granddaughters; four step-grandsons; and one step-great-granddaughter.

MARION -- Glenna Pugh Vernon, 83, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a native of Grayson County, Va.
She attended
Johnson Nursing School and graduated in 1935.
She was a registered nurse for 46 years.
She was the widow of C.H. Vernon.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Sam Vernon, Marion; one brother, B. Jack Pugh, Lynchburg; two grandsons, David and Neal; one granddaughter, Anna; and one step-grandchild, Chad.

He was a retired Staff Sargent, U.S. Air Force, and a veteran of World War II.

LEBANON -- Roosevelt C. Altizer, 67, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, in Russell County Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Faye Altizer.
He was a retiree from Russell County Waste Management and was a lifelong resident of Russell County.
Survivors include one daughter, Melissa Chafin, Lebanon; four sisters, Sylvia Tiller, Lebanon, Mary Camper and Hazel Cox, both of Bristol Tennessee, and Dorothy Meade, Bristol Virginia; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

COEBURN -- Fred Warren Carico, 83, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, in Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of Sandy Ridge and attended Banner Assembly of God Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cosby Tennessee Meade Carico.
Survivors include three brothers, George Carico and Charlie Carico, both of Coeburn, and Kenneth Carico, Sandusky, Ohio; one special niece, Lois Bruner, Coeburn; and several nieces and nephews.
