Jarrett
James Franklin Jarrett, age 68, of Atkins, formerly of Catawba County, N.C., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997 following a lengthy illness at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mr. Jarrett was born in Catawba County on Aug. 18, 1929, a son of Eoline M. Leatherman Jarrett and the late Homer K. Jarrett. He was a truck driver and a restaurant owner. He was a member of Sardis Lutheran Church and a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald J. Jarrett.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Little Jarrett of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Donna) Price of Reynoldsville, Penn., and Mrs. Ronnie (Susan) Thomas of Plantsville, Conn.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne A. and Elaine Jarrett, O.J. and Ellen Jarrett, all of Hickory, N.C., and Leonard H. and Jennifer Jarrett of Speedwell; his mother, Eoline M. Leatherman Jarrett of Hickory, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Herman (Joanne) Heavner and Mrs. Ernest (Helen) Sigmon, both of Newton, N.C.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Keith N. and B.J. Jarrett of Denver, N.C., and Ned M. and Martha Jarrett of Newton, N.C.; 13 grandchildren: Laura Jarrett, Holly Jarrett, Alan Jarrett, Jennifer Jarrett, Matt Price, Anna Price, Sherry Price, Samantha Jarrett, Chelsea Jarrett, Benjamin Jarrett, Juda Thomas, Benjamin Thomas, Miracle Thomas.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. at Sardis Lutheran Church in Vale, N.C., with the Rev. Harvey Blume, the Rev. Ronnie Thomas and Mr. Leonard Jarrett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Willis Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, N.C. Katherine McGhee Repass, age 81, widow of Robert Kelly "Cab" Repass, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Repass was a member of the Mount Carmel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Repass Blevins of Marion, and Elizabeth Repass

Jackie W. Wix, age 42, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997 at his home in Chilhowie.
He was an employee of Visador Company in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Dreama Doane Wix; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Joe and Melissa Wix, Chilhowie, and Darrell J. and Bobbie Jean Wix, Marion; his mother, Alma Wix, Chilhowie; one brother, James Wix, Chilhowie; one sister, Eola Hall, Newton, N.C.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Georgia Virginia Hamm Cook, age 78, of Chilhowie, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was the widow of Jerry Cook and a member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, in

James Robert Hart, age 60, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997 in Wayne Memorial Hospital, Jessup, Ga.
He is survived by his wife, Katrina Hart of Jessup, Ga.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and John Peer of Manassas; one son, Robert Lee Hart of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Catherine Copenhaver of Marion, Virginia Lucille Haga of Chilhowie, and Charlotte Osborne of Atkins; one brother, Cecil P. Hart of Salem; his former wife, Doris C. Hart of Blue Ridge, Ga.; two grandchildren; Crystal Peer and Heather Peer; several nieces and nephews.

Hess
Paul Montague Hess, 81, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Hess was a native of Russell County and had lived most of his life in the Rich Valley, Chatham Hill and Nebo areas. He was active in the Nebo Ruritan and the Nebo Fire Department. He served as captain of the Nebo Fire Department and was honored as the Fireman of the Year in 1984. He also worked for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
Mr. Hess was preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Hess Peeples. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Sadie Irene Hess, Atkins; one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Edgar Waddell, Atkins; two sisters, Thelma Hess, Marion, and Lucy Davis, Pennsylvania; two brothers, Clarence Hess, Glade Spring, and Oscar Hess, Broadford; two grandchildren, Jeff Waddell, Aiken, S.C., and Shelia King, Roanoke; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Harry Howe officiating. Interment will follow in Ridgedale Cemetery in Rich Valley. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Hilton
Calvin K. (Cotton) Hilton, age 73, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Samuel Reed and Anna Kincer Hilton. Mr. Hilton was a member of the Blue Springs United Methodist Church in Camp, a retired employee of Southern States Coop, a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of the Marion VFW Post #4667 and the Rural Retreat American Legion Post #229.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet J. Hilton of the home; one sister, Della Harmon, Rural Retreat; one brother, Bill Hilton, Rural Retreat; his mother-in-law, Catherine James of the home; one sister-in-law and husband, Hope and Bob Hickenbottom, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 11 a.m. at the Blue Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Perkins and the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Marion VFW Post #4667 conducting graveside military rites. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Blue Springs Cemetery Fund.

Johnson
Thomas Harrison Johnson, age 74, died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997 in a Portsmouth hospital.
He was a native of Plasterco, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and retired from Norfolk Naval Air Station, Public Works Center, as a welder foreman.

Johnson was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Beavers and Lydia Davis.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Virginia Johnson; three daughters, Carol Sutton and Brenda Johnson, both of Portsmouth, and Patricia Holland, Chesapeake; one son, Paul W. Johnson, Portsmouth; three sisters, Annie Davis, Montvale, Betty Ashley, Glade Spring, and Louise Norris, Roanoke; five brothers, Claude Johnson, Portsmouth, Ohio, Edward Johnson, the Rev. Samuel
Johnson and Douglas Johnson, all of Saltville, and Harold Johnson, Chilhowie; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 3, in Sturtevant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with the Rev. Don Sheffield and the Rev. Greg Kitts officiating. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to
