Blevins
Rhoda Ethel Blevins, age 82, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Blevins was a native of Grayson County and had lived in the Marion area for several years. She was retired from Harwood as a seamstress.
Survivors include one daughter, Cleta Holdaway, Richmond; one sister, Viona Emerson, Troutdale; two granddaughters, Gina Fredenberg and Tammy Holdaway, both of Richmond; three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul
Jones officiating. Interment followed in the Comers Cemetery in Troutdale.

Caudill
Birdie Lee Caudill, age 82, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She had been a resident of Washington County most of her life and was the widow of Luther Caudill.
Survivors include one sister, Alde Taylor, Saltville; four grandchildren: Michael Miller, Abingdon, Peggy Younce, Bristol, Kathy Miller and Timmy Miller, both of Meadowview; three great-grandsons; one great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Jim Odum officiating. Burial was in Knollkreg Memorial Park.

Cornett
Hobert F. Cornett, age 77, of Rural Retreat, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was born in Grayson County, the son of the late Ealie and Virginia CeDella Taylor Cornett. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Club 55 Bowling League and had attended the Fairview United Methodist Church in Rural Retreat.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Texas Repass Cornett.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Leona and Bill Mooney, Rural Retreat; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard F. and Linda Cornett, Rural Retreat; one sister, Mamie C. Slagle, Rural Retreat; four grandchildren, Tracy Cornett, John Mooney, David Cornett and Marsha Underwood; special friends, Helen Odom, Carrie King, Richard and Linda Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Fairview United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rance Edwards and the Rev. Michael Hoyle officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family requests that those who prefer may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Emergency Services or to the American Cancer Society.

Gall
Theodore A. "Pap" Gall Sr., age 91, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997 at the Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
Mr. Gall was a pioneer in organic soil restoration based on his belief that the Bible is the greatest authority on soil sustenance and restoration. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Heckman Gall; one son, Theodore Albert Gall Jr.; one daughter, Ella Mae Gall; and a grandson, Timothy Scott Gall.
He is survived by one son, Arthur Richard Gall Sr., West Deer Township, Penn.; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Suzanne and Vincent Sukle of Marion; one daughter-in-law, Violet Gallagher of Saxonburg, Penn.; 13 grandchildren: Linda Roscoe, Theodore A. Gall III, Kathy Snow, Mark Gall, Laura Sukle, Jason Sukle, Elizabeth Sukle, Arthur Gall Jr., Tracy Trevellini, Geneen Gall, Noreen Gall, Jill Paskorz and Jennifer Gall; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

Brown Chapel with burial to be held at a later date in Lakewood Memorial Garden in Dorseyville, Penn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Smyth-Bland Regional Library, 118 S. Holbrook
Maynard Carson Holbrook Sr., age 73, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997 at the Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.
Mr. Holbrook was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. He was a pharmacist for 44 years and was a graduate of Emory & Henry College as well as the Medical College of Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Noe Holbrook, Marion; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Maynard Carson Holbrook Jr. and wife Kenli of LaGrange, Ga., and Timothy Kyle Holbrook of Moneta; one sister, Louise Hall of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, Eugene Holbrook of Bristol, Tenn., and Monroe Holbrook of Columbus, Ohio; two grandchildren, Katie and Andrew Holbrook; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. at Seaver-
Brown Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. at the Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood.

Mary Eloise Johnson, age 51, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include one son, Richard H. Harrison, Bristol; three daughters, Nancy Surber and Cathy Harrison, both of Bristol, and Deborah Harrison, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two brothers, Bobby
Johnson and Jeffery Johnson, both of Saltville; two sisters, Mildred Holmes and Cathy Holley, both of Saltville; her maternal grandmother, America Davidson, Saltville; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Briggs officiating. Burial was in the Mahanaim Cemetery.

Carrie Virginia Olinger, age 92, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a member of Broadford Church of God and was the widow of John Henry Olinger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Fannie Furguson; and a grandson, Charlie Olinger.
Survivors include four sons, Charles H. Olinger, Saltville, John W. Olinger, Chilhowie, Donald E. Olinger, Marshville, Mass., and C.S.M. Ret. Robert D. Olinger, Disputante; eight daughters, Dorothy Clear and Ruby Olinger, both of Broadford, Carol Davis, Shirley Olinger and Brenda Handcock, all of Marion, Polly Woodard, Cleveland, Tenn., Mary Emma Carter, Rich Valley, and Betty Jernigan, Monroe, Mich.; one brother, Donald Furguson, Sunbury, N.C.; two sisters, Ann Gambill, Freeze, and Thelma Furguson, Marion; 28 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

Mae Sturgill Pennington, age 94, of the
Green Cove community, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997 in Damascus.
She was a native of Chilhowie, the widow of Joseph Pennington and a member of
Green Cove Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Luella Pennington, Opal Hart, Mezelle Greer, Juanita Blevins and Mary Alice Cornett, all of Damascus; three sons, Harley Pennington, Lee Pennington and Elbert Pennington, all of Damascus; one sister, Lillian Eldrith, Kirkwood, Penn.; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in
Green Cove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jody Blevins and the Rev. T.A. Pennington officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
