Hambrick
John W. Hambrick of Bristol died Thursday, July 31, 1997 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
He was a native of Lebanon and had lived in Bristol since 1935. He retired from Crabtree Buick Motors in 1979.
Mr. Hambrick was a member of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church and was also a member of Ralph Mills Sunday School Class of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda L. Hambrick; one son, Sam G. Hambrick, Marion; one daughter, Betsy E. Belew, Bristol, Tenn.; five granddaughters; two grandsons; one great-grandson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. tonight, Aug. 2, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Monk officiating. Graveside services will be held Sunday, Aug. 3, at 2 p.m. in Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bristol Life Saving Crew or Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.

Prater
Edgar Victory Prater, age 66, of Sevierville, Tenn., died Wednesday, July 30, 1997 in the Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville, Tenn.
Mr. Prater was a native of Rich Valley. He worked as a supervisor for Bethlehem Steel in Baltimore, Md., for 38 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6505 of Rosedale, Md.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Thomas Prater; one son and daughter-in-law, Edgar Victory Prater Jr. and Jacqueline Prater; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Finley and Peggy Prater Woods, both of Marion, Virginia Mae Harris, Troutdale, and Ramona Goodman, Summerville, S.C.; two brothers, Rush Richard Prater, Chilhowie, and William Curtis Prater of Marion; two grandchildren, Crystal Marie and Edward Anthony.
Funeral services will be held today, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. in the Church of God of Prophecy with the Rev. Paul Horton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Rose Cemetery, Glade Spring, with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Shupe
Beulah Wood Shupe, age 66, died Thursday, July 31, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mrs. Shupe was a native of Tennessee and had lived most of her life in Smyth County. She was a member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church and had worked at Roses, Service America and the State Hospital cafeteria for several years.
Mrs. Shupe was preceded in death by her husband, Druary Frank Shupe, and her parents, Walter Raymond and Lula Mae Wood.
Surviving are her fiancé, Donald Sharp, Marion; three daughters, Lois Shumate, Marion, Brenda G. Broskie, Richmond, and Deborah L. Shupe, Smithfield, N.C.; three sisters, Bertie (Pendie) Widner, Danville, Eva Jenks, Taylorsville, N.C., and Opal Hall, Falling Water, W.Va.; four brothers, Ernest Wood, Gaithersburg, Md., Robert Wood, Stony Point, N.C., Dayton Wood, Brunswick, Md., and Tommy Wood, Mooresville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a special friend, Linda Brown, Smithfield, N.C.
Funeral services will be held today, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m. in Cedar Bluff Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Beck and the Rev. Danny Broskie officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.

Surber
Sarah Nipper Surber, age 87, of Saltville, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a member of McCready United Methodist Church and a member of the Saltville Senior Citizens.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Janette) Poston, West Columbia, S.C., Bernelle Surber, Saltville, and Mrs. Johnny R. (Donna) Riggs, Portsmouth; one brother, J.W. Nipper, Portsmouth; one sister, Mrs. Malcolm (Pansy) Surber, Princeton, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Carrie Nipper; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Mark Frye and Janet Woodward.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, in McCready Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Cook and the Rev. Howard Hawk officiating. Burial was in Elizabeth Cemetery. Donations may be made to the McCready Methodist Church or the Saltville Rescue Squad.

Sword
Sidney Ralph Sword, age 78, of Saltville, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was retired from Olin Corporation and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Midway Memorial Chapel.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Sword, Saltville; four daughters, Mrs. R.D. (Peggy) Borders, Mrs. Dennis (Patsy) Davison, Mrs. Mack (Dolly) Lamie and Mrs. Rick (Judy) Boonjaras, all of Saltville; three brothers, Robert "Bob" Sword, William C. "Bunk" Sword and Joseph "Pete" Sword, all of Saltville; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 2, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Luther Watson and the Rev. Bob Briggs officiating. A military graveside service will follow in the Elizabeth Cemetery conducted by the Saltville VFW Post No. 7328.

Corvin
Annie Marie Catron Corvin, age 83, of Wytheville, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 1997 in the Birdmont Health Care Center.
She was born in Smyth County, the daughter of the late David Perry and Pauline Blanchard Catron and was preceded in death by her husband, James Herbert Corvin Sr.; one son, Pete Corvin; and a son-in-law, Rowdy Cregger.
She is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Cregger; one son and two daughters-in-law, Jack and Barbara Corvin, and Mae Corvin, all of Wytheville; one sister, Willie Mae White of Marion; three brothers, Gray Wright, Tommy Wright, both of Marion, and George Wright, Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends at Birdmont Health Care Center also survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 3 p.m. at Barnett's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Richard Collins officiating. Interment followed in the Galilee Christian Church Cemetery.

Hill
Roy McDonald Hill, age 72, of Saltville, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a World War II veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Trealey (Locklear) Hill; two sons, Max Hill, Charlotte, N.C., and Tracy Hill, Concord, N.C.; two daughters, Mrs. James (Zonnie) Lites and Amy Hill, both of Concord; one brother, John E. Hill, Saltville; two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Elizabeth) Allshouse and Mrs. Kenneth (Sylvia) Burnopp, both of Norfolk; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. in Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Shirley
Carter officiating. military graveside rites were conducted by the Saltville VFW Post at the Elizabeth Cemetery.

Hurley
Alma Lee "Crickett" Hurley, age 58, of Konnarock, died Friday, Aug. 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon. She was preceded in death by her father, Ambrose Weaver.
She was a native of Grayson County and was retired from Grayson County School System where she was a traveling librarian. She was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Bob Hurley Sr.; three sons, Bobby Hurley Jr., Dallas, Ga., Thomas Hurley and James Hurley, both of Konnarock; her mother, Pearl Weaver, Konnarock; one brother, Curtis Weaver, Whitetop; one sister, Melba Martin, Alexandria; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, in
Green Cove Baptist Church with the Rev. T.A. Pennington and the Rev. Jody Blevins officiating. Burial was in
Green Cove Cemetery.
