Sawyers
Jessie D. Sawyers, age 73, died Friday, June 27, 1997 in Radford.
Mrs. Sawyers was the widow of Ernest E. Buck Sawyers. She was a member of the Furnace Hill Lutheran Church and had volunteered at the Smyth County Community Hospital as a Pink Lady.
Survivors include one son, E. Wayne Sawyers, Dublin; two daughters, Carol Lucas, Radford, and Kay Sawyers, Charleston, S.C.; two brothers, William Dolinger, Petersburg, and Scott Dolinger, Marion; one sister, Margaret Dolinger, Baltimore, Md.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, in the Furnace Hill Lutheran Church with Pastor Edward Schaak officiating. Interment followed in the Attoway Cemetery.

Waddell
Ray Waddell, age 81, of Troutdale, died Monday, June 30, 1997 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
He was a native of Grayson County and had lived most of his life in Konnarock. He was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Konnarock, and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby D. Waddell; one stepdaughter, Charlene Blevins, Whitetop; two stepsons, Lewis Hoffman, Matoaco, and Kenneth Hoffman, Morgantown, Penn.; five sisters: Jincy Testerman and Kate Blevins, both of Grassy Creek, N.C., Grace Sheetz, Bel Air, Md., Pauline Walker, Peach Bottom, Penn., and Kathleen Hart, Paradise, Penn.; one brother, George Waddell, Lansing, N.C.; seven step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 3, in St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Konnarock, with the Rev. John Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Azen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, July 2, in
Johnson Funeral Home.

Wheeler
Clarence O. Wheeler, age 70, died Sunday, June 29, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He is survived by several cousins.
Funeral services will be held today, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-

Atwell
Barbara Jean Atwell, age 54, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997 at her home in Marion.
Mrs. Atwell was a native of Smyth County and a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church. She was a registered nurse having received her Associate Degree from the Wytheville Community College. She was employed in the Intensive Care Unit of the Wytheville Community Hospital.
Mrs. Atwell was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Myrtle Testerman and two sisters, Hilda Dennison and Kate White.
Survivors include her husband, Carl Atwell; two daughters, Rita Faye Cutler, Bavon, and Brenda Kay Sexton, Virginia Beach; one brother, Robert Testerman, Roanoke; one grandchild, Joshua Casey Sexton.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 4, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pat Gilbert officiating. Interment followed in the Slemp Cemetery.

Bradley
Arika Mackenzie Bradley, infant daughter of Eric and Melinda Bradley of Meadowview, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997 in
Johnson City Medical Center.
Other survivors include her maternal grandparents, Harold and Jane Wilcox of Meadowview; her paternal grandmother, Jennifer Browning of Meadowview; her maternal great-grandparents, Bobby and Cleta Blevins, Fayetteville, W.Va.; her paternal great-grandparents, James and Pauline Scott, Abingdon; two uncles.
Graveside services were conducted Thursday, July 3, at 11 a.m. in Azen Cemetery, Konnarock, with the Rev. Robert Carbary officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Ronald McDonald House, 418 N. State of Franklin Road,

Brooks
Ruby Thompson Brooks, age 79, of Adwolfe, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997 in the Francis Marion Manor. She was the widow of Sam Calvin Brooks.
Mrs. Brooks was a native of West Virginia and had lived most of her life in Smyth County. She retired from the Southwestern State Hospital and attended the Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Hall, Marion; one son, Gary Brooks, Marion; one brother, Daniel G. Thompson, Seven Mile Ford; two grandchildren, Theresa Brooks and Jerry Hall.
Funeral services will be held today, July 5, at 10 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Pickle officiating. Interment will follow in the West Cemetery.

Davis
Jimmy Wilson Davis, age 48, died Monday, June 30, 1997 at his home in Bristol.
He was a native of West Jefferson, N.C., and had lived in Grayson County before moving to Bristol 25 years ago. He was an employee of Dana Corporation, Marion, and a U.S. Army veteran serving in Thailand during the Vietname War.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye G. Davis; one daughter, Debra Kaye Morgan, Berea, Ky.; one son, Jason Wayne Davis, Bristol; his parents, Tam and Alma Davis, Whitetop; one sister, Loretta D. Hall, Sugar Grove; one brother, Jackie Davis, Weber City; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, in Campbell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. T.A. Pennington and Charles E. Morgan officiating. Burial followed in High Orchard Baptist Church Cemetery, Rugby, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 275, Lansing, N.C.

Hawk
Danny Eugene Wilford Hawk, age 46, of Ceres, died Wednesday, July 2, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Hawk was a native of Nebraska and had been living in Smyth County for 30 years. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Virginia Intermont College and was employed with Brunswick as a property administrator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Hawk.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Hawk; one son, Joseph Hawk, Ceres; his father, Lester Joe Hawk, Ceres; three brothers, Tim Hawk, North Dakota, Jack Hawk and Ken Hawk, both of Ceres; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 4, at 2 p.m. in the Mt. Zion Church in Rich Valley with the Rev. Harold Toms officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Graveside military honors were rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
