Lassie A. Wimbish Jr.
Lassie Arnold Wimbish Jr., 62, of Fieldale, died Thursday, April 20, 2006, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem.
He was born in Bassett on Aug. 12,1943, to Lassie A. Wimbish Sr. and Mary Martin Wimbish McConnell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the Army during Vietnam.
Surviving are three sons, Steve A. Wimbish of Axton, Michael T. Wimbish of Greensboro, N.C., and Kevin L. Wimbish of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Wimbish Whitlow of Bassett, Marie Martin of Ridgeway and Pat Phelps of Stokesdale, N.C.; a brother, Kenneth Arnold Wimbish of Bassett; a stepbrother, Grover Whitlow Jr. of Critz; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bassett Funeral Service with Pastor Danny Gilley officiating. Burial will be in Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors by the Army and the Martinsville and Henry County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Claudia B. Caldwell
Claudia Boyden Caldwell, 98, of 106 North St., Martinsville, died April 20, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Salisbury, N.C. on Nov. 30, 1907, to Claude Gaylor Boyden and Laura Taylor Walker. She was the widow of Dr. Edgar L. Caldwell.
She received a BA degree from Livingston College and masters degree from A & T State University. Afterwards, she was principal at West End Primary School and Albert Harris Elementary School for several years before teaching at Druid Hills Elementary School.
Caldwell was an active in the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army, Voter's League, FOCUS, Democratic Women and a life member of AKA Inc. Voters League.
Surviving are one son, Robert Mack Moseley of Martinsville; and a great nephew of Plainfield, N.J.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Thurman O. Echols Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Friends will be received at the church from 1:30 p.m. until time for the funeral Saturday.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Edna H. Dodson
Edna "Earl" Hall Dodson, 96, of the Blue Ridge Rehab Center, and formerly of 117 Emmett St., Martinsville, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at the rehab center.
She was born Oct. 5, 1909, in Patrick County to John P. Hall and Halie Ann Miles Hall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Bailey Eanes, Randford Eanes and Roy C. Dodson; a son, Earl "Wayne" Eanes; two sisters, Katie Finney and Margaret Dillon; and three brothers, Moyer Hall, J. "Brant" Hall and Benson Hall.
She had been a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church since 1940.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeanette Washburn of Edgewater, Fla.; stepdaughter, Marge Hundley of Bassett; son, Carl M. Eanes of Greensboro, N.C.; stepson, R.C. Dodson Jr. of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Dr. David Adkins officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Services and Crematory.
P. Louise Honaker
Patricia "Louise" Honaker, 70, of 189 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Martinsville, died Tuesday, April 25, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Collins Funeral Services.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete and will be announced by the Collins Funeral Services.
John H. Jamison
John Henry Jamison, 86, of 1248 Chestnut Knob Road, Martinsville, died April 23, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
He was born Jan. 30, 1920 in Franklin County to Harry Jamison and Sally Pinkard Jamison. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Larry Jamison; and two brothers, Russell "Ruff" Jamison and Richard Jamison.
He worked in the yarn department of Bassett-Walker, was a veteran of the Army and attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Kate Jamison of the home; two daughters, Magnolin J. Cobb and Vinnie Ann Galloway, both of Martinsville; and two sisters, Eva
Johnson and Geneva Jamison, both of Alexander; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ray Arrington officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one-half hour before the service and at other times at the home on Chestnut Knob Road.
Ralph Lawless
A funeral for Ralph Lawless of Collinsville, who died April 23, 2006, was held Tuesday at Collins Funeral Services with the Revs. Susan Brack and Russell Cheatham officiating. Burial was at Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery in Patrick County.
Pallbearers were Roger Custer, Robert Parks, William E. Keffer, Gerald Rogers, Danny Rogers and Eddie Baker.
Annie L. Shelton
Annie Lucille King Shelton, 92, of 123 Reginalds Drive, Martinsville, died April 23, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1913, in Henry County to John Starling King and Kitty Everline Turner King. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Shelton; six brothers, Willie Lee King, Charlie Lee King, Harry King, Ramond King, Tommy Joe King and Johnny King; and four sisters, Ruth King, Maggie Sue Turner and Georgia K. Morrison.
She attended Rock Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Elbert L. Shelton of the home, Nathanial Shelton of Littenton, Co. and foster son Jose A. Salda of Martinsville. ; a brother, james S. King of Martinsville; a sister, Sarah K. Hairston of Martinsville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday and Rock Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Authot Stockton officiating. Burial will be in the King family cemetary.
The family will receive friends for one-half hour before the funeral at the funeral chapel and at other times at the home on Reginalds Drive and at a niece's home on 1405 Roundabout Road in Martinsville.
James T. Spencer
The funeral for James Thomas "Little Jimmy" Spencer, 56, of Henry, who died April 21, 2006, was held Tuesday at Collins Funeral Chapel at Bassett with the Rev. J.D. Harmon officiating. Burial was in the Mills Creek Baptist Church cemetery at Henry.
Pallbearers were Donnie Foley, Ricky Spencer, Robby Joe Spencer, Richard Helms, William J. Philpott Jr. and Gary Mullins.
Ada R. Turner
Ada Ross Turner, 83, of 2259 Sunset Drive, Bassett, died April 24, 2006, at Blue Ridge Rehad Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1922, in Henry County to John H. Ross and Mattie T. Ross. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Turner, who died April 12, 2006; two brothers, Fletcher Ross and T. J. Ross; five sisters, Evelyn Hairston, Annie Sledd, Jessie Gladden, Irene Ross and Lousie Pleasant.
She had worked at Bassett-Walker and in the homes of the Howard White family and the John Parcell family. She attended Oak Hill Baptist Church, where she sang in the senior choir, was in the missionary society and on the deaconness board.
Surviving are a daughter, Betty D. Turner of Bassett; two sons, Jasper L. Tuner of Bassett and Henry L. Turner of Rocky Mount; two brothers, Raymond Ross of Bassett and Letcher Ross of Buffalo, N.Y.; one sister, Jannie R.
Smith of Bassett; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. John. W. Tinsley officiating. Burial will be in the Turner family cemetary.
The family will receive friends for one-half hour before the service at the chapel and at other times at the home.
Essie M. Woods
A funeral for Essie Mary Woods, 89, of Stuart, who died April 22, 2006, was held Tuesday at Stateline Primitive Baptist Church with Elders John Calhoun and Clarence Bowman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Darrell Beasley, Richard Eckrote, Jeffrey Marshall, Jerry Woods, J.D. Collins and Steve Mitchell.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
