Samuel Boles Jr.
The funeral for Samuel Lee "Brother" Boles Jr., 83, of Stuart, who died June 23, 2004, was held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The Rev. Ricky Rogers officiated.
Burial was in the Church of Christ cemetery with military rites performed by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
Pallbearers were Gene Scearce, Norman Nunn, Dwight Collins, Ray Anderson, Cecil Hall and Johnny Boles.
Maria D. Casarez
Maria DelRefugio Casarez, 88, of Bassett, died Sunday, June 27, 2004, at her home.
She was born July 4, 1915, in Texas, and was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Casarez. She was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Maria Helena Clarke of Texas; one sister, Josephina Anzaldua of Texas; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and one great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be at Bassett Funeral Service from 6:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, to be followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. in the Bassett Funeral Service chapel. Burial will be private.
At other times, friends will be received at the home of granddaughter, Audrey Martin, at 526 Old Stage Road, Bassett.
Mae V. Cockram
The funeral for Mae Vaughan Cockram, 99, of Stuart, who died June 23, 2004, was held Saturday at Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Danny Parker and the Rev. Luther Hopkins officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steve Hutchens, Mark Hutchens, Otis Cockram, Danny Cockram, Larry Cummings and Bobby Goard.
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart was in charge of arrangements.
Ennis Jones
Ennis Nee Mathis Jones, 84, formerly of Corse Avenue, Villa Heights community, Martinsville, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Las Vegas, Nev.
She was born April 21, 1920, in Premier, W.Va., the daughter of Posie Mathis and Rebecca Mahaffey Mathis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Linda Kay Jones, Alice Faye
Jones and Tammy Jones; one son, Dennis Jones; four sisters, Hazel Martin, Lois Conner, Alberta French and Grace Landreth; and two brothers, Roscoe Mathis and Lewis Mathis.
Surviving are three daughters, Sue Thomas Heiselmon of Las Vegas, Rita Bianconi of Baltimore, Md., and Barbara Isaac of Collinsville and formerly of Baltimore; two sons, Douglas
Jones of Bassett and Allen
Jones of Baltimore; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Community Funeral Services chapel in Ridgeway with Pastor Keith Spangenberg officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Community Funeral Services from 7-9 p.m. today.
Elmore E. Martin Sr.
Elmore E. Martin Sr., 84, of Bear, Del., and formerly of Chester, Pa., died Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Springfield Hospital, Springfield, Pa. He was a native of Martinsville.
Surviving are 12 children, Elinar Martin of Chicago, Ill, Karen Abdullah of Claymont, Pa., Nellie Martin and Mildred Rankin, both of Chester, Pa., Michelle Robinson of Newark, Pa., Howard Martin of Graterlord, Pa., and Elmore Martin Jr. of Bear, Keith Martin of Chester, Robert Martin of Philadelphia, Tracy Martin of Chester, Clyde Martin of Axton, Va., and Umar Harneed of Columbia, S.C.; four sisters, Dora Cousin of Chicago, Odaris Richardson of Cascade, Va., Lillian Yellow of Cascade and Vester Turner of Martinsville; 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Eternal Hope of Glory Church, 1801 W. 12th St., Chester, where friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans' Memorial Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Claude J. Edney Funeral Home, Sharon Hill, Pa.
Helen G. Nichols
Helen Gravely Nichols, 66, of 1607 Spruce St., Martinsville, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Norris Funeral Services.
W. Taylor Pigg
The funeral for W. Taylor Pigg, 87, of the Figsboro community, Martinsville, who died June 25, 2004, was held Monday at Collins Funeral Service chapel in Bassett with the Rev. David Westmoreland officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Joey Pigg, Jeff Hicks, Buddy Brodie, Stan Brodie, Tommy Stokes, Ken Turner, Aubrey
Smith and Darnell Harris.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Figsboro Ruritan Club and employees of Lester Lumber Company.
Geneva Shrader
Geneva Shrader, 81, of Bassett, died Monday, June 28, 2004, at her home.
She was born April 16, 1923, in Pocahontas, W.Va., a daughter of James Leonard Poe and Bertha Davis Poe, both deceased. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Shrader; one son, Donald Ray Shrader; a brother, William Poe; and a sister, Shirley Cooley.
Surviving are two daughters, Maxine Helmondollar of Waldorf, Md., and Marie Payne of Bassett; two sons, Harold Shrader of Wilsonville, Ala., and James "Buddy" Shrader of Bassett; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bassett Funeral Service chapel with Pastor Jimmy Wood officiating. Burial will be in Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. today at Bassett Funeral Service and other times at the home at 3211 Riverside Drive, Bassett.
Kathy Lynn Tatum
DINWIDDIE -- Kathy Lynn Tatum, 48, of Dinwiddie, died June 28, 2004.
She was the daughter of Pearl Tatum of Stuart and the late Richard C. Tatum Sr.
In addition to her mother, surviving are two daughters, Amber Tatum and Sara Tatum, both of Dinwiddie; one grandson; one sister, Kim Harris of Stuart; and a brother, Richard Tatum Jr. of Woolwine.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Blandford Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Regina Tittle
Regina Mae Turner Tittle, 57, of 6512 W. 95th Place, Westminster, Colo., formerly of Henry County, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, Colo.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by Collins Funeral Services in Bassett.
William J. Wilson
The funeral for William J. Wilson, 49, of 8989 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, who died June 23, 2004, was held Sunday at Hairston Funeral Home with the Elder John Campbell officiating. Burial was in Sharon Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
