French
Weaver "Conrad" French, age 69, of Tannersville, died Thursday, June 12, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He worked for the United States Postal Service for 43 years, where he was a mail carrier in the Rich Valley area.
He was a lifetime member of the Saltville Rescue Squad, a charter member of the Tannersville Rescue Squad, past master of Rich Valley Masonic Lodge No. 172 and past patron of the Saltville Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Comer French; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cathy French, Tannersville; two grandsons, Jeremy Repass and Brandon Repass; one brother, John French, Tannersville; one sister, Olivene Morand, Cary, N.C.; a special friend, Kristi Funk; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, June 14, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Cahill and Jeff Comer officiating. A military graveside service will be conducted by the Saltville VFW Post No. 7328 and Masonic rites conducted by Rich Valley Masonic Lodge No. 172 will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery.

Hall
The Rev. Fields Vernon Hall, age 72, of Staunton, died Thursday, June 12, 1997 in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
He was born on Jan. 12, 1925 in Smyth County, a son of the late Vernon and Dinah Blevins Hall and stepson of Mary Church Hall.
Rev. Hall was an ordained minister. He was a member of the Gospel Light Baptist Church of Waynesboro.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Fannie Frances Church Hall; five sons: Rev. Frank Hall and wife Judy of Verona; Jeff Hall and wife Sandy of Waynesboro; Charles Vernon Hall and wife Joyce of Staunton; Phillip Eugene Hall of Pensacola, Fla.; and Roger Lee Hall and wife Patsy of Bristol; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dinah Frances and Ray Cash of Staunton, and Virginia Darlene and Frankie Rankin of Fishersville; five brothers: Chester Hall of Washington, Ga., James Hall, Preston Hall and Jerry Hall, all of Marion, Mickie Hall of Abingdon; five sisters, Stella Robinson, Martha Largen, Louise Wyatt, and Barbara Taylor, all of Marion, and Elsie Rose of Tampa, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 15, at 2 p.m. in Henry Funeral Home Chapel with Pastors Stanley Price and Frank Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home. It is suggested that those who wish may make memorial donations to the Bloodmobile of the American Red Cross, Augusta County Chapter, 001 Middlebrook Ave., Staunton, VA 24401 or to the Missionary work of the donor's choice.

Hawks
Steven R. Hawks, age 41, of Shreveport, La., died Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at his home.
Mr. Hawks was born in Marion and has been a resident of Shreveport most of his life. He was a member of the Barksdale Baptist Church and had been employed at Sam's in Lake Charles, La., and at Wal-Mart in Many, La.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ruby and Raymond W. Pullig; and paternal grandparents, Hattie and W.E. Hawks.
He is survived by his parents, Carolyn and Willis E. Hawks of Shreveport, La.; one brother, Donald W. Hawks and wife Debbie of Benton, La.; three aunts, Lolette Dayberry and husband Bob of Princeton, La., Frances Cox of Marion, and Janice Clapper and husband Ron of Ponchatoula, La; one great-aunt, Lola Mae Harris of Springhill, La.; one great-uncle, Dr. Roy Barnes of Pensacola, Fla.; one niece, Courtney Vice; one nephew, G.W. Vice; four cousins, Jason and Sarah Bertrand and Robert and David Dayberry; his pets, Annie and Sam.
Graveside services will be conducted today, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Hill Crest Memorial Park in Haughton, La. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Pelican Foundation, c/o Hospice of Shreveport, 3003 Knight St., Suite 115, Shreveport, La. 71105.

Stanley
Ina Mae Stanley, age 74, of Glade Spring, died Monday, June 9, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Survivors include her husband, Harley E. Stanley; seven sons, Johnny Stanley, Elmer Stanley, Larry Stanley, Bill Stanley, Paul Stanley and Gary Stanley, all of Glade Spring, and Charles Stanley, Chilhowie; three daughters, Mrs. Earnest (Nellie) Price and Mrs. Clayton (Carrie) Trent, both of Glade Spring, and Mrs. Autrey (Betty) Cooper, Ferrum; one sister, Irene Baker, Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Earl Daugherty, Darlington, Md., and James Stanley, Baltimore, Md.; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Hazelwood officiating. Burial was in Baptist Cemetery, Glade Spring.

Willie Pansy Daugherty, age 77, of Sugar Grove, died Monday, June 16, 1997 in Bristol Regional Medical Center. She had resided most of her life in Sugar Grove where she was a member of the Wharf Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, French and Marietta Keesling; three sons, Johnny, Ronnie and Danny Daugherty.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Fred E. Daugherty, Sugar Grove; one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mike Baldwin of Sugar Grove; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randy and Trish Daugherty, and Rickie Daugherty, all of Sugar Grove; one sister, Jackie DuMond of Tallahassee, Fla.; two brothers, Kelly Keesling of Rural Retreat, and Harold Keesling of Roxboro, N.C.; one granddaughter, Misty Daugherty Crutchfield of Chilhowie; one great-granddaughter, Carly Crutchfield; two step-granddaughters, Heather Baldwin and Jessica Wagoner; one former daughter-in-law, Patsy Doyle of Marion; several nieces and nephews.

Davidson
Nellie Gray Davidson, age 58, died Saturday, June 14, 1997 at her home in Chilhowie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Blake Davidson and her parents, John A. and Nannie Crabtree Wyatt.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Libby and Rickie Sessor, and Kay Davidson, all of Chilhowie; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Jr. (Carlo) and Patti Proffit of Chilhowie, Michael and Robin Proffit of Blountville, Tenn., and Ronnie Jr. and Sharon Davidson, Chilhowie; seven grandchildren: Machelle Proffit, Charlie Proffit III, Lucas Proffit, Chase Sessor, Chance Sessor, Ashleigh Thomas and Kayla Martin; three sisters, Lola Ritchie of Stratford, N.J., Joan Goad of Hawthorne, Fla., and Teresa Norris of Marion; two brothers, Ed Wyatt and John Wyatt, both of Marion.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, at 2 p.m. at the Ridgedale United Methodist Church in Rich Valley with the Rev. Frank Chapman Jr. and the Rev. Luther Watson officiating. Burial followed in Ridgedale Cemetery.

Parks
Gracie Mae Parks, age 75, died Sunday, June 15, 1997 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Parks was a native of Smyth County. She was employed with the Virginia House Restaurant, the Beacon Restaurant and the Lincoln Hotel. She also assisted with the care of the elderly and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of William Wister Parks.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Joe M. Sheets, Princeton, W.Va.; two sons, William James Parks, Meadowview, and John Oscar Totten, Marion; three stepdaughters, Myrtle Moore and Mildred Parks, both of Battle Creek, Mich., and Charlotte Warfield, Federalsburg, Md.; one sister, Eva Widener, Glade Spring; one brother, Wiley Harris, Marion; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today, June 18, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Dockery officiating. Interment will follow in the Ridgedale Cemetery.

Surber
Dale Surber, age 75, of Saltville, died Sunday, June 15, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was a Master Mason with the William King Lodge No. 227, a veteran of World War II, a deacon at McCready United Methodist Church and retired from the Olin Corp. He was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and a charter member of the Saltville Rescue Squad.
He is survived by his wife, Lizzie Emma
Carter Surber; two sons, Curtis Surber, Des Plaines, Ill., and Ricky Surber, Chilhowie; three brothers, Frank Surber, Thomas Surber and Robert Surber, all of Saltville; one sister, Meleta Cecil, Saltville; five grandchildren: Shawn Surber, Brian Davin Surber, James Curtis Surber, Stephen Shea Surber, and Morgan LaFaye Robins; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, June 18, at 11 a.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Chapel with burial in Mount Rose Cemetery. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted by William King Lodge 227.
