Edmiston
Virginia Mann Edmiston, 79, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a member of Grosses Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James R. "Jake" Edmiston; two daughters, Mrs. Baker (Opal) Testerman, Chilhowie, and Mrs. Michael (Judy) Osborne, Greensboro, N.C.; three sons, Willard Edmiston, Simpsonville, S.C., David Edmiston, Damascus, and Bob Edmiston, Chilhowie; three sisters, Lucy Davenport, Chilhowie, Hattie Bane, Ohio, and Pearl Whitt, Radford; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, in Grosses Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Sheets and the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Interment was in Grosses Creek Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Grosses Creek Baptist Church or to your local rescue squad.

Foltz
Martin Delaney Foltz, 73, formerly of Alexandria, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at his home in Marion.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Mel Leaman of Marion; one brother and sister-in-law, Irving S. and Bertha Foltz of Cape Coral, Fla.; three grandchildren, Kelly Powers and husband Russell of Glade Spring, Brian Leaman and wife Brandy, and Michelle Leaman, all of Marion; one great-grandchild, Brian Martin Leaman Jr.; one nephew and wife, Irving C. and Francesann Foltz of Cape Coral, Fla.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 24, at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church in Marion with the Rev. Michael Zumpf officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in the Mount Comfort Cemetery, Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marion Senior High School Golf Program, c/o Larry Sayers, 848 Stage St., Marion, VA 24354.

Goodman
Virginia Victoria Goodman, 76, widow of Alonzo Thomas Goodman, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997 at the Frederick Health Care Center in Maryland.
Mrs. Goodman was a native of Smyth County and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ethel Atwell.
Survivors include one daughter, Pat Mezardash, Middletown, Md.; one son, David Goodman, Ocean City, Md.; two sisters, Louise Kerley, Blountville, Tenn., and Bettie Turley, Marion; two brothers, Carl Atwell, Rich Valley, and Herbert Atwell, Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral services will be held today, April 26, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery in Rich Valley.

Kent
James William Kent, 76, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997 at Smyth County Community Hospital. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers International Local Union 9 with over 40 years of service. He was veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Farris I. Kent, Chilhowie; one daughter, Karen V. Kent of Chilhowie; two aunts, Edith Leftwich of Roanoke, and Nell Sanders of San Francisco, Calif.
There will be no visitation or funeral ceremony. Friends may call at the home of the family at any time. The family requests that no floral offerings be sent. Memorial donations may be made to the Chilhowie Rescue Squad.

Roland
Nathan Leroy Roland, 84, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997 at his home in Chilhowie. He attended Parker's Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Mae M. Roland, Chilhowie; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Carole Roland, Joe and Connie Roland, Jimmy and Ilene Roland, all of Chilhowie; one daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Bobby Wyatt, Chilhowie; five sisters, Vergie Hayden, Seffner, Fla., Freda Privette, Manassas, Rosa Lee Stamper, Chilhowie, Shirley Howell, Elkton, Md., Betty McClure, Gray, Tenn.; two brothers, George Roland, Eaglelake, Fla., Lester Roland, Marion; eight grandchildren: Teresa Steffey, Jackie Taylor, Barbara Martin, Danny Roland, Jimmy Dean Roland, Joey Roland, Michael Roland and Christopher Wyatt; seven great-grandchildren: Kreig Roland, Tyler Roland, Nicholas Roland, Emily Steffey, Caleb Roland, Junior Taylor and Lorna Taylor; three step-great-grandchildren, Nacole, Kayla and Derrick Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the Parker's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Hensley, Brother Buster Mullins and the Rev. Joe Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church today, April 26, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.

Widener
Harlow James "Red" Widener Sr., 62, died Friday, April 25, 1997 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Widener was a native of Smyth County and a lifelong resident of Marion. He was an employee of both the Brunswick Corporation and Seaver-
Brown Funeral Home and was a longtime member of the Marion Life Saving Crew. He also served as magistrate in Smyth County for a number of years. He was a member of the Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church in Atkins.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Widener, Marion; one daughter, Debbie Carol Anders, Marion; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Harlow James (Jimmy) and Linda Widener Jr., Willis and Beverly Widener, all of Marion, Courtney Widener and David Widener, both of the home; two sisters, Reatha Harris and Frieda Osborne, both of Marion; five brothers, Herb Widener, Marion, Ronnie Widener, Gerald Widener, and Reed Widener, all of Seven Mile Ford, J.D. Widener, Abingdon; six grandchildren, Amy Anders, Jennifer Anders, Eric Widener, Jill Widener, Jonathan Widener, Joshua Widener; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Tyler Widener.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. in Freedom Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Blevins
Charles M. Blevins, 93, died Sunday, April 27, 1997 in Cedar Lawn Convalescent Home in Abingdon.
He was a native of Smyth County and had lived in Washington County most of his life.
He was a coal miner, a farmer for several years and a member of Greencove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Hurley Blevins and Jackie Blevins.
Survivors include his wife, Ressie H. Blevins; three daughters, Aleese Trivett, Konnarock, Relma McMinn, Hendersonville, N.C., and Clara Jean Necessary, Warrenton; five sons, Avon R. Blevins and J.R. Blevins, both of Fairfax, Carroll Blevins, Damascus, Kyle Edgar Blevins, Marshall, and Earl Scott Blevins, Catlett; three half-sisters, Edith Byrd, Marion, Ruth Davis, Rural Retreat, and Gaye Spencer, Chilhowie; three half-brothers, Buster Blevins, Detroit, Mich., Carl Blevins, Independence, and James Blevins, Portland, Ore.; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, April 30, in Greencove Baptist Church with the Rev. T.A. Pennington and the Rev. Charles "Jody" Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Greencove Church Cemetery. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Robert L. "Bud" Crouse Jr., 70, died Friday, April 25, 1997 at his home in Chilhowie. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Crouse was preceded in death by his parents, Verna Catron and Robert L. Crouse Sr.; two brothers, Jack Crouse and Ray Crouse.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Crouse; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Shirley) Robinette, Rogersville, and Mrs. John (Doris) Powers, Chilhowie; one son and daughter-in-law, Leslie and Diana Crouse, Chilhowie; five sisters, Bonnie Hinchey, Abingdon, Betty Trivett and Joann Sproles, both of Bristol, Nancy McAllister and Lila Blevins, both of Marion; eight brothers, Roy Crouse and Paul Crouse, both of Marion, Earl Crouse, Ed Crouse, Buford Crouse, Harold Crouse, Larry Crouse and Junior Crouse, all of Chilhowie; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, in Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Middlefork Cemetery.
