Ida Stuart Phillips Hash, age 95, died Saturday, April 12, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husbands and one son. She was of the Baptist faith and was a homemaker and a retired domestic worker.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Lester "Peat" and Helen Phillips of Merced, Calif.; Robert "Bill" and Louise Hash, and Jake Hash, all of Marion; and Jessie Lee Phillips of Rugby; three daughters and son-in-law, Ellen Tilson, Carol Gilley, Treva and William "Bill" Wood, all of Marion; one sister, Myrtle English of Ravenel, S.C.; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, at 8 p.m. at Seaver-
Brown Chapel with the Rev. Rex Hall and the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery in Rugby.

Osborne
Kaye Farmer Osborne, age 58, died Monday, April 14, 1997 at her home in Damascus.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a lifelong member of the Christian Church where she served as pianist and organist.
Survivors include her husband, George W. Osborne; one daughter, Lesa Di Pietro, Cortland, N.Y.; one son, Allen Osborne, Damascus; her mother and stepfather, Clara and Dean Clark, Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, Harley Farmer, Kingsport, Tenn.; four stepsisters, and four stepbrothers, all of the Washington D.C. area; four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 p.m. tonight, April 16, in
Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Jim Hutchinson, Minister Glenn Daughtery and Minister Lynn Schleicher officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, in Sunset Memorial Park, Damascus. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Mount Rogers Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 47, Whitetop, VA 24292. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. tonight prior to the service at the funeral home.

Roberts
Molly Ruth Roberts, age 72, died Monday, April 14, 1997 in Wythe County.
Mrs. Roberts attended The Church of God of Prophecy in Sugar Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan F. Roberts; two daughters, Anna Mae Layel and Barbara Briscoe; and two sons, Dennis James Roberts and Bobby L. Roberts.
Survivors include three sons: Robert Ray Roberts, Marion, Daniel Lee Roberts and Jessie B. Roberts, both of Groseclose; four daughters: Martha F. Hayes, Sugar Grove, Norma Jean Sexton, Wytheville, Revonda F. Perkins and Brenda J. Roberts, both of Marion; two sisters, Moselle Christian, Princeton, W.Va., and Shirley Taylor, War, W.Va.; 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted today, April 16, at 2 p.m. in The Church of God of Prophecy in Sugar Grove with the Rev. Jerry Alley officiating. Interment will follow in Slemp Cemetery.

Steele
Wilburn Henry Steele, age 70, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was of the Baptist faith and was employed at Harwood Manufacturing Company for 45 years where he served as president of the Local Union.
Survivors include two brothers, Charles B. Steele and Jessie D. Steele, both of Marion; two sisters, Violet Hopkins and Joyce Teaster, both of Marion; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 17, at 2 p.m. at Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herman Cress officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Barker
William E. "Bill" Barker, 59, of Damascus, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a retired employee of Holston Army Ammunition Plant, Kingsport, Tenn., coached Damascus Little League for several years and attended the Damascus Church of Christ.
Mr. Barker was a member of the Citizens Club, an active member of the American Legion and an honorary member of the Damascus Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Judy J. Barker; two daughters, Margie Owens and Lori Ann Blevins, both of Damascus; one son, Michael Barker, Damascus; two sisters, Sandra Parker, Orange Park, Fla., and Janet Ragan, Pounding Mill; one brother, Jack Barker, Chilhowie; four grandchildren, Mikie Barker, William Blevins, Jordan Blevins and Chelsea Owens; two aunts, Sally Griffith and Mary Ironside; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 18, in the Damascus Church of Christ with Minister Bill Reece and Minister Jim Hutchinson officiating. Burial was held in the Sunset Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by V.F.W. Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975.

Forte
Americo (Rick) N. Forte, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Forte was a member of St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church in Marion. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He received a Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion and Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.
Survivors include one daughter, Lori Forte, Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Mike Forte, Ellsworth, Penn., and Tony Forte, Fair Oaks, Penn.; three sisters, Anne Sonnie, Conway, Penn., Julia Leslie, Marion, and Josephine Boka, Euclid, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Friday, April 18, in St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Robert Krenik officiating. Interment followed in the Rose Lawn Cemetery with full military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion V.F.W. Post 4667.

Frazier
Helen Weaver Rosen Frazier, 95, died Monday, April 14, 1997 in the Valley Health Care Center.
She was a native of Troutdale and a former resident of Marion. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion and a member of the United Methodist Women and the D.A.R.
Survivors include one son, Fred Rosen, Arroyo Grande, Calif.; one daughter, Miriam Korshak, Houston, Texas; one grandson, Tom Rosen, Woodbridge; one close cousin, Harry Pugh, Chilhowie.
Graveside services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Troutdale Cemetery with the Rev. Jane Myrick and the Rev. Terry D. Goodman officiating.

Greer
Mary Kathrine Greer, 93, of Salem, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997.
Miss Greer was born in Grayson County July 4, 1903, and spent her childhood in Troutdale. She was a graduate of Marion High School and Marion Junior College and received her teacher's certificate from Emory & Henry College in 1923. She taught in the Troutdale school.
In 1931, she graduated from Shenandoah Hospital School of Nursing. During her 34 years of nursing, she held registration in Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee and Oregon. She joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1942 and served overseas.
In 1945, she returned to Troutdale and organized the Troutdale Community Health Center. She returned to the Army Nurse Corps in March 1948 serving in Tacoma, Wash., and Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1954, she left the Army for private life on her sister's ranch in Tahuya, Wash.
Miss Greer returned to Virginia in 1960 where she held many nursing positions including Night Supervisor at Southwestern State Hospital in Marion and Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg. Her last nursing job was as Director of Nursing at Bedford County Memorial Hospital in Bedford.
Miss Greer was a lifetime member of the American Sociological Society and a member of the National Counsel of Family Relations.
She was a member of the Methodist Church since she was 10 years old. In the late '60s and early '70s she was a certified lay leader of Holston Conference. She had been an active member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church. She had been active in volunteer work with the League of Older Americans and the patients at the former McVitty House.
Miss Greer was one of the early members of the Mount Rogers Citizen's Development Corporation, serving as membership chairman for some time. For her work with this organization she won the Ralph C. Moyle award for outstanding contributions toward furthering the progress of the Mount Rogers Area of Southwest Virginia. She was twice elected recorder and treasurer of the town of Troutdale.
Miss Greer is survived by one sister, Sue Capriotti, Tahuya, Wash.; one brother, Carroll Greer, San Mateo, Calif.
Due to winter weather concerns and family living out of state, funeral services will be conducted today, April 19, at 1:30 p.m. at Troutdale Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
