Ruby W. McGee
The funeral for Ruby W. McGee, 81, who died March 5, 2006, at Blue Ridge Rehab Center, Martinsville, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Michael Harrison officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, N.C.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
She was born in Henry County on March 20, 1924, to E.H. Whitlow and Annie Mayes Whitlow. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd "Whitey" McGhee; brothers, Joe Grover Whitlow, James E. Whitlow, Raymond L. Whitlow, and infant twin brothers; and a sister, Gladys W. Ferguson.
She and her husband formerly owned and operated a restaurant in Brown Summit, N.C.
Surviving are four brothers, Maynard Whitlow, Bill J. Whitlow and Charlie W. Whitlow, all of Bassett, and Eurel Whitlow of Rocky Mount; a sister, Annie W. Moore of Brown Summit; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Olivia J. Pilson
Olivia Johnson Pilson, 82, of 759 John Henry Road, Bassett, died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
Collins Funeral Services at Bassett is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond R. Roach
THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Raymond "Ray" Randolph Roach, 57, of Thomasville, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born June 16, 1948, in Henry County, Va., to Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Frances Keen Roach. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Shirley Mae Roach; and a brother, Herbert "Jack" Roach. While in Henry County, he attended Axton Baptist Church.
He had been employed at Loflin Plumbing in Jamestown for 17 years, and he was a member of the Thomasville Chapter of AA.
Surviving are his daughter, Melissa Renee Mills of Martinsville, Va.; two sisters, Patsy R. Roach and Nellie J. Mason, both of Martinsville; two brothers, Franklin D. Roach and James R. Roach, both of Ridgeway, Va.; one grandson; an aunt; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Family Funeral Care Chapel, 18 Randolph St., Thomasville, with Pastor Norman Henderson officiating.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Roach family cemetery near Axton, Va.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oakbranch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Irene C. Rogers
The funeral for Irene Campbell Rogers, 89, of Martinsville, who died March 3, 2006, was held Monday at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. David Adkins officiating. A graveside service was held at Floral Gardens Park Cemetery in High Point, N.C.
Pallbearers were Von Lingerfelt, Joe Oxley, Lance Baker, Billy Golden, Lawrence Reinhold and Joe Lee.
Arrangements were by Norris Funeral Services and Crematory.

Flossie T. Ross
The funeral for Flossie Lee Thomas Ross, 87, of 1060 Sunset Drive, Bassett, who died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at noon today at Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory, Bassett. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one half hour before the funeral today.
She was born in Henry County on Oct. 6, 1918, to Ophus Thomas and Izetta Hairston Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Wilder Hairston and Roxie Ingram; five brothers, O.C. Thomas, Obie Thomas, Jeff Thomas, Willie Thomas and Joe Thomas.
She was a member of Oak Hill Cathedral of Glory where she was involved in the choir, home missions and the usher board.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Ross; three daughters, Maxcine R. Gravely of Fieldale and Dorothy Holland and Helen Jones, both of Bassett; a son, Clyde Ross of Bassett; a brother, Junior Thomas of Bassett; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a foster sister, Barbara Thomas Hairston of Bassett; and three foster children, Anthony Jones of Martinsville and Pamela Griffin and Tressa Hundley, both of Chesapeake.
Hairston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

C. Esther Turner
The funeral for C. Esther Turner, 84, of Martinsville, who died March 3, 2006, was held Monday at Collins Funeral Services with Elder Clarence Stone. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Fred Turner, George Thomas Turner, Larry Fulcher, Smitty Doyle, Jim Bryant and Mark Nolen.

Larry Byrd
Larry Byrd, 62, of 835 Midway Drive, Spencer, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at his home.
Community Funeral Services will announce arrangements.

Hillued D. Cassell
The funeral for Hillued David Cassell, 62, of Bassett, who died March 28, 2006, was held Tuesday at Bassett Funeral Services with Pastor Dwayne Pruitt and Brother Rick Bibbe officiating. Burial was in County Line Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were George Franklin, Letcher Caudill, Jeffery Cassell, David Cassell, Pierre Greer, Mike Gilley, Dallas Franklin and Darren Parnell.

Ola B. Edwards
The funeral for Ola Blankenship Edwards, 86, of Martinsville, who died March 31, 2006, was held Tuesday at Norris Funeral Services with Pastors Ray Shelton and Rodney Houston officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Chris Shelton, Eddie Shelton, Arun Chaddha, G.W. Fisher, Roshaw Chaddha and Joe Hollandsworth.

Harry L. Grimes
YANCEYVILLE, N.C. -- Harry L. Grimes, 70, of 53 Joel Drive, Yanceyville, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Danville, Va., on Feb. 17, 1936, to Buster Lee Grimes and Mamie Riley Grimes of Roman Eagle Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his father.
He served in the Air Force from August 1956 to August 1960. He was a truck driver for 35 years and was a member of Community Baptist Church in Danville.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Ruby Meadows Grimes; a daughter, Judy Newcomb of Yanceyville; a grandson; two brothers, Gene Grimes of Axton, Va., and Kenneth Grimes of Superior, Wis.; and a sister, Betty Hilton of Danville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. James Albert officiating. Full military honors will be by the American Legion Post 1097 Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorial donations may be sent to Alamance-Caswell Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Ethel H. Myers
GRETNA -- Ethel Hammack Myers, 84, of 189 Burke Road, Gretna, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born in Pittsylvania County on Oct. 4, 1921, to John William Hammack and Eliza Hall Hammack. She was preceded in death by her husband, Collian Myers; a son, Gordon Myers; three brothers, Clifton Hammack, Pete Hammack and Calvin Hammack; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Wyatt of Martinsville and Lois Irby and Doris Conner, both of Gretna; a brother, Roy Hammack of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five sisters, Gladys Tuck, Thelma Thompson, Shirley Moore and Sallie Hammack, all of Gretna and Elva Hammack of Chatham; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. A.A. Blanks and John Belderes officiating. Burial will be in the Myers family cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and other times at the home.
