Wesley R. Hopkins
Wesley Ray Hopkins, 88, of 7648 Woolwine Highway, Woolwine, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
He was born in Patrick County on July 25, 1917, to Charles Matthew Hopkins and Ella DeHart Hopkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Josie Ellen Hoplins, Mabel Pendleton and Mamie Wood; and a brother, Samuel
Green Hopkins.
He was a technical sergeant with Headquarters Battery 152 Airborne, Anti-Aircraft Battalion in the Army during World War II. He was the owner of Hopkins Lumber Co. in Woolwine and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Lucille Plasters Hopkins of the home; four daughters, Janelle Hopkins Rolfe and Martha Hopkins Love, both of Richmond, Mary Hopkins Wertz of Gretna and Joyce Hopkins Overstreet of Columbus, Ohio; two sons, John Wesley Hopkins and Jerry Howard Hopkins, both of Woolwine; a sister, Dovie Hopkins
Brown of Columbia, S.C.; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Sycamore Baptist Church with Minister Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Howell Funeral Home chapel in Patrick Springs.

David Arnold Lawson, 56, of 1991 Stones Dairy Road, Bassett, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at his home.

Kathryn S. Moore
The funeral for Kathryn S. Moore, 87, of Ridgeway, who died Feb. 15, 2006, was held Saturday at Ridgeway United Methodist Church with the Revs. Russell Graham and Pat Tony officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Michael Moore, Dan O'Brian, W.C. Fowlkes, Cornell Barnes, Bill Murphy, Sonny Kellam, Steve Eanes and Harry Henderson.
McKee-Stone Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
George B. Murphy
George Benny Murphy, 68, of Martinsville, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Henry County on Sept. 23, 1937, to Charlie Murphy and Midget Harris Murphy. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Murphy.
Surviving are three daughters, Mattie Elizabeth Winningham and Annette M. Morris, both of Collinsville and Gloria Jean Hundley of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Joseph D. Murphy of Martinsville; six brothers, Leroy Murphy and David Murphy, both of Martinsville, Charles Murphy of Ridgeway, Frank Murphy of Fieldale, Chester Murphy of Stuart and Mark Murphy of Lynchburg; four sisters, Shirley Murphy, Nancy Holliday and Mary Ruth Cressell, all of Martinsville and Eva Darlene Rios-Morales of Snow Capp, N.C.; four grandchildren; 12 nieces; four nephews.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bassett Funeral Service chapel with Pastor Kirby Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

Clyde S. Odell
EDEN, N.C. -- Clyde Swanson "Toot" Odell, 55, of 1005 Tenth St., Eden, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006.
He was born in Rockingham County on May 7, 1950, to Nelson Odell and Naomi Lawrence Odell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Odell, Buck Odell and Jerry Odell.
Surviving are two sisters, Cathy Parrish of Chatham, Va., and Deborah Odell of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Rodney Odell of Eden and Paul Odell of Ridgeway, Va.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Overlook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Fair Funeral Home.
Russell W. Rigney
Russell William Rigney, 87, of 2965 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville.
He was born in Chatham on Dec. 26, 1918, to Jesse T. Rigney and Minnie Allen Rigney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lena Oakes, Ruby Meadows and Maggie Dodd; and four brothers, Roy Rigney, Ernest Rigney, Percy Rigney and Willard Rigney.
He served in the Army during World War II; was a self-employed farmer; and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia Shelton Rigney of the home; a daughter, Lois Pulliam of Axton; one son, Darrell Rigney of Stuart; a sister, Bertha Meadows of Chatham; a brother, Edward Rigney of Martinsville; a grandson; a granddaughter; two great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Burial Park with Pastor Harry Meadows officiating.

Neil B. Shelor
The funeral for Neil Burnett Shelor, 86, of Meadows of Dan, who died Feb. 16, 2006, was held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Shockley officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
military honors were provided by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard, who also served as pallbearers.

Margaret H. Steiner
EDEN, N.C. -- Margaret Hodge Steiner, 81, of 433 Cedar St., Eden, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital of Reidsville.
She was born in Axton on Aug. 24, 1924, to William Thomas Wilson and Betty Kate McDaniel Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters: Hester Kidd, Mayebud Wells, Alice Marshall, Nora Barker, W.T. Wilson, Boyd Wilson, Otha Wilson, Wesley Wilson and Woody Wilson; her first husband, Roy Woodrow Hodge; and a son, Roy W. Hodge.
She worked at Stoneville Furniture Co. and later at Wal-Mart in Martinsville. She was a member of a Baptist Church in Eden.
Surviving are her second husband, Harry Steiner; two daughters, Sandra Hodge Catlett and Phyllis Hodge Overby, both of Selma; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of cousins, nieces and nephews in the Henry County area.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home chapel, 564 West Main St., Danville, Va., with the Rev. Gordon Godfrey officiating. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
Seamiun A. Dixon
Seamiun Adolphus Dixon, 87, of 912 Mitchell Road, Axton, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2006 at his home.

Margaret C. Hairston
Margaret Callaway Hairston, 88, of 238 Calloway Drive, Fieldale, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.
She was born in Henry County on Oct. 26, 1917, to Buryl Callaway and Ella
Johnson Callaway. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James S. Hairston; and two sisters, Marinda Callaway and Gretchen Wade.
She retired from Bassett-Walker with 25 years of service. She was a member of New Bethel Church (DOC), where she served on the usher board and was a member of CWF.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary H. McRae of Fieldale; a brother, Dawson Callaway of Fieldale; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Pentecostal Assembly Building with the Rev. Mabel Finney officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home.
