Mason
Rebecca Shelton Mason, age 94, of Saltville, died Friday, Nov. 29, 1996 in Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville, Tenn. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one son, Robert B. Mason, Bristol, Tenn.; one daughter, Alice Carter, Inverness, Fla.; two brothers, W.J. Shelton, Chilhowie, and Dallas Shelton, Saltville; one sister, Susie Hockett, La Pata, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Benny Frye officiating. Burial was in the Cleghorn Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.

Roark
Lethia Inis Roark, age 75, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996 in Southeast Memorial Hospital, Houston, Texas.
She was a native of
Johnson County, Tenn., and had lived in Damascus for many years before making her home with her daughter in Houston.
She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Houston, and the First Baptist Church in Damascus.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia R. Smith, Houston, Texas, and Lisa Roark, Kingston, N.C.; one son, Raymond E. Surber, Manassas; two sisters, Anna Belle Surber, Damascus, and Viola Sheffield, Marion; one brother, Clayburn Surber, Damascus; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, in First Baptist Church, Damascus, with the Rev. Don Lasley officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial Park.

Singleton
Nina Mauree Day Singleton, age 64, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996 at her home in Saltville. She was formerly of Dickenson County.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Singleton, Saltville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Elders Benny Blevins and Franklin Viers officiating. Burial was in Mount Rose Cemetery.

Taylor
Edith Frances Taylor, age 81, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Taylor was a native of Washington County and had lived most of her life in Smyth County. She was the widow of Guy Taylor and was a member of the Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Frances Louise and Charlie Owens, Marion; two sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby E. and Becky Taylor, Chilhowie, and William L. "Billy" and Linda Taylor, Marion; one sister, Blanche Moretz, Bristol; five grandchildren: Tracey Taylor, Jane Taylor, Matthew Thompson, Joy Taylor, and Taryn Taylor.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marion Boggs, the Rev. R.J. Cullop, and the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Interment was in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat.

Thomas
Christopher Dean Thomas, age 13, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a student at the Smyth County Training Center and had participated in the Special Olympics.
Survivors include his mother, Loretta Thomas, Marion; his father, William Dean Thomas, Tannersville; one brother, Zachary Thomas of the home; maternal grandmother, Mattie Edwards, Marion; paternal grandmother, Nancy Thomas; his special daddy, David Barnes; and many other loving relatives also survive.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Lowman Valley Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Steve Hutton and the Rev. Charles Turley officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Williams
Jason Allan Williams, age 18, died Monday, Dec. 2, 1996 from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was a native of Smyth County having lived all of his life in Marion. He was employed at the Smyth County Community Hospital in the Maintenance Department and was a 1995 graduate of Marion Senior High School.
Survivors include his parents, Millard and Virginia Williams, Marion; three sisters, Melinda Williams, Marion, Cindy Sullivan, Abingdon, and Lorinda Conklin, St. Paul, Minn.; his paternal grandmother, Virgie Williams, Chilhowie; three nieces, Tosha Thompson, Marion, Sarah Sullivan and Autumn Sullivan, both of Abingdon; one nephew, Mickey Thompson, Marion; a special friend, Tanjie Hutton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Avery Sheets, the Rev. Otis Barker and the Rev. Dennis Eller officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Firestone
Daniel Lee Calvin Firestone, age 56, of Marion, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996.
Mr. Firestone was a native of West Virginia and had lived a number of years in the Marion area. He was also employed as a glass installer for the Princeton Mercer Glass Company.
Survivors include his mother, Ethel Firestone, Vinton; four brothers, Clarence Firestone, Mobile, Ala., Mitchell Firestone, Falls Church, Ralph Firestone and David Firestone, both of Herndon, W.Va.; two sisters, Linda L. Firestone and Mary DeVault, both of Vinton.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 p.m. at the Attoway Cemetery with Pastor Tim Boyette officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from noon until time of service at the funeral home.

Jones
Joseph Clyde Jones, age 49, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996 at his home. He was president of J.C.
Jones Trucking Inc., and attended the Glade Spring Community Church of God. He was preceded in death by his father, J. Dale Jones.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret M. Jones, Chilhowie; one sister and brother-in-law, Walter R. and Linda
Jones Pupa, Raleigh, N.C.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. E.C. Little and the Rev. Bobby Dunn officiating. Interment was in the Knoll Kreg Cemetery in Abingdon. Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 conducted graveside military honors.

Stoots
Margie Ann Stoots, age 45, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 1996 at her home in Marion.
She was a native of Washington County. She was employed at the Marion Intermediate School for six years and with Buster
Brown Company for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband, Buford H. Stoots; one daughter, Rebecca Stoots, Marion; one son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Mary Ann Stoots, Marion; her mother, Flora Morrison, Meadowview; one sister, Dorothy Musser, Dade City, Fla.; two brothers, Ray Morrison, Glade Spring, and Melvin Morrison, Meadowview; two grandchildren: Timothy Stoots and Savannah Stoots.
Funeral services will be conducted today, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Guy Testerman officiating. Interment will be in the Walkers Creek Presbyterian Cemetery.
