Laura Poston Smith
Laura Poston Smith, age 95, of Chesterfield, died Monday, Oct. 28, 1996.
Survivors include one son, Jim Smith; five daughters: Jean Shrope, Mel Kessen, Mavis McAffry, Donna Estes, and Yvonne Palmer; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. at Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel in Richmond with interment in Sunset Memorial Park.

Ball
Virgil Grant Ball, age 81, of Chilhowie, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Buchanan
Barns Wilson Buchanan, age 73, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 1996 in a Bristol hospital.
He was a native of Smyth County and a graduate of Rich Valley High School. He attended Marion College. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, the Korean War and Vietname War. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Wilson and Mary Barns Buchanan; and one sister, Eleanor "Polly" Hooper.
He had previously been employed by the County of Los Angeles, Calif., and was currently working with the U.S. Forest Service.
Survivors include one sister, Sue Buchanan Moss, Burkes Garden; two nieces, Nancy Moss, Wilmington, N.C., and Pam Moss, Burkes Garden; one great-nephew, Matthew Ray, Burkes Garden.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, in Rich Valley Cemetery.

Davis
Greeta Sue Fletcher Foran Davis, age 49, formerly of the Home Creek Section of Buchanan County, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996, at her home in Marion.
She was born in Buchanan County and was the daughter of the late Waldon (Doc) Fletcher and Nina Martin Fletcher of Grundy. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness Faith.
Ms. Davis was a graduate of East Tennessee State University School of Nursing and was working on her Masters in Nursing at the time of her death. She was a RN-BSN, and was a former employee of Grundy and Buchanan General Hospital, currently employed as Coordinator for Total Home Care in Abingdon. She was a nursing supervisor for Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Survivors include her mother, Nina Martin Fletcher of Grundy; two daughters, Mrs. Rick (Jennifer) Foran Mullins, Big Rock, and Angela Foran of Meadowview; one son, Jason Paul Davis, Grundy; six grandchildren: Justin Mullins, Caleb Breeding, Sebastian Mullins, Justin Davis, Makiesha Necessary and Skyler Davis.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 14, at noon at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home in Grundy with the Rev. Arville Collins officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Cemetery in Big Rock. The body will remain in the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel where friends may call after 6 p.m. tonight.

Dillman
Samuel H. "Sam" Dillman, age 86, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 1996 in the Summers Continuous Care Nursing Home, Hinton, W.Va.
Mr. Dillman was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church and was a carpenter most of his life. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Emma Cleo Dillman, and one step-granddaughter, Lisa Dawn Glascock.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy F. Dillman of Hinton, W.Va.; three daughters, Betty Ross of Stone Mountain, Ga., Charlotte Carceau of Lady Lake, Fla., and Joyce Krafft of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sons, Quentin Dillman of Chantilly, and Joe Dillman of Marion; three stepdaughters, Faye Glascock of Fairfax, Carolyn Reed of Hinton, W.Va., and Sharon K.
Smith of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Earl Lee Carson of Gadsden, Ala., and Roy Edward Carson of Point Harbor, N.C.; 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.

Brown Chapel with the Rev. Harry Howe officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Jones
Rosa Lee Jones, age 81, of Stewartstown, Penn., died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was a native of Smyth County and had been a resident of Stewartstown, Penn., for a number of years. She was the daughter of the late William Connard and Clara Elswick Jones. She was of the Methodist faith .
She is survived by her twin brother, W.M. "Bill" Jones, Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral and burial will be in Stewartstown, Penn.

Lohman
Douglas Jay Lohman Sr., age 55, of Bristol, died Friday, Nov. 8, 1996 in Greystone Health Care Center in Bristol. He was an Army veteran of the Vietname War.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Jay Lohman Jr., Killeen, Texas and Daniel Joseph Lohman, Walled Lake, Mich.; his mother, Velma I. Lohman, Bristol; one brother, Eugene E. Lohman, Abingdon; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, in Mount Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Sprinkle officiating. military rites were conducted by the Saltville VFW Post No. 7328.

Martin
George Fred Martin, age 57, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 1996 at his home in Marion.
He was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections and was a member of the Smyth County Moose Lodge.
He is survived by one son, Robbie Martin of Marion; his mother, Anna Laura Martin of Marion; two sisters, Virginia M. Ross of Marion and Patsy A. Sturgill of Chilhowie; two brothers, Billy J. Martin of Alexandria and David R. Martin of Stafford; four grandchildren, Shonna Martin, Eric Sheffield, Jacob Ferley and Trever Ferley.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-

Rollins
Luther Wesley Rollins Jr., died Monday, Nov. 11, 1996 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Rollins was a native of Georgia and had been living in Sugar Grove for the past seven years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce B. Rollins.
Survivors include four daughters: Tammy Coldiron, Marion; Terrie Freeman, Fairfax, S.C.; Tonya Hood, Beech Island, S.C.; and Theresa Rollins Swatzell, Douglasville, Ga.; two sons, Timothy Wesley Rollins, Hephzibih, Ga., and Tommy Rollins, Springfield; one sister, Margaret Harris, Douglasville, Ga.; two brothers, Tommy Rollins, Atlanta, Ga., and David Rollins, Augusta, Ga.; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. at Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Interment will be in Augusta, Ga., on Thursday, Nov. 14.
