Steven Rorrer
The funeral for Steven "Stevie" Rorrer, 39, of Bassett, who died Jan. 19, 2006, was held Monday at Community Baptist Church at Bassett with the Revs. Ronnie Wright, Ron Peal, Robert Benfield and Carson
Williams officiating. Burial was in the Turner family cemetery in Elamsville in Patrick County.
Pallbearers were David O'Dell, Ken Howell, Kelvin Wright, John Joyce, Billy Martin, David Sanders, Daniel Keaton and Ryan Garrison.
Bassett Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
Larry Thacker Sr.
Larry Wade Thacker Sr., 64, of 1077 Dees Road, Axton, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at his home.
He was born June 30, 1941, in Ridgeway, to Julia Bousman Thacker of Waynesboro and the late Buster
Brown Thacker.
He was the co-owner of L & R Business Machines.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Vivian Thacker of the home; two daughters, Cheryl Thacker Childs of Yazoo, Miss. and Melissa Thacker of Axton; three sons, Jerry Thacker of Axton, Larry Thacker Jr. of Collinsville and Robert Thacker of Figsboro; a sister, Shelby Haley of Waynesboro; a brother, Robert Wayne Thacker of Martinsville; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Collins Funeral Chapel in Bassett with the Rev. Tom Teems and Pastor Don Thomas officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Services and other times at the home.
Jerry L. Bradley
The funeral for Jerry Lewis Bradley, 43, of 586 Gammon Lake Road, Axton, who died Jan. 30, 2006, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sharon Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Leroy Penn will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.
Friends are being received at the home of his mother at 768 Seeland Road, Danville.
Bradley was born on Jan. 1, 1963, in Pittsylvania County, to Helen J. Bradley Knox and the late Joe Lewis Bradley. He was educated in Pittsylvania County Schools and he was a musician.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Phyllis Jennings Bradley; a son, Marcus Bradley of Blairs; a daugher, Kia Bradley of Blairs; four brothers, Joe Bradley Jr., Wayne Bradley, Tim Bradley and Roger D. Bradley, all of Danville; and two sisters, Teresa L. Plummer and Helen M. Bradley, both of Danville.

Bertha P. Coates
A funeral for Bertha Pilson Coates, 87, of Stuart, who died Jan. 30, 2006, was held Wednesday at Fairystone Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Dunn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Pilson, Curt Pilson, Chris Pilson, Gary Layman, Anthony Foley and Olin Pendleton.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Services in Stuart.
Loula A. Cockram
Loula Mae Alderman Cockram, 84, of Meadows of Dan, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
She was born in Floyd County on June 6, 1921, to Joseph S. Alderman and Lura Harris Alderman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Melvin Cockram; stepmother, Vada C. Alderman; two sisters Beulah Linkous and Edna Marshall; two half-sisters, Lucille Cox and Irene Alderman; four half-brothers, Posey Alderman, Glenn Alderman, Fred Alderman and Edd Alderman.
She was a member of Mountain View Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph Cockram of Wytheville and Richard Cockram of Ridgeway; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four half-sisters, Ruth Austin of Radford, Clara
Williams of Stuart, Ruby Sloan of Christiansburg and Judy Reynolds of Meadows of Dan; and two half-brothers, Frank Alderman of Bassett and Joseph Alderman Jr. of Vesta.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Terry Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Alex Cockram cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

Alice Sergewich Flynn, 77, of Stuart, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick Memorial Hospital in Stuart.

William Harrison "Billy" Harrell, 71, of 61 Fourth St., Fieldale, died Wednsday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Helen W. Nease
Helen Wheeler Nease, 87, of 1236 Sam Lions Trail, Martinsville, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at King's Grant in Martinsville.
She was born Aug. 1, 1918, in Walnut Cove, N.C., to William Pickney Wheeler and Floy Lassiter Wheeler.
She attended Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., before marrying George L. Nease and moving to Henry County in 1944.
A longtime resident of Martinsville, she was active in several community organizations including the Mt. Olivet Garden Club and was a sustaining member of the Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Ladies Circle of the church. An accompolished golfer, Nease was a former member and officer of the Chatmoss Ladies Golf Association.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, George L. Nease of Martinsville; a son, William Wheeler Nease of Martinsville; a daughter, Dru Nease Gilbreath of Richmond; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with The Rev. Lynn A. Bechdolt and the Rev. Dr. William E. Kinser officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and other times at the home of her son, Bill Nease, 150 Jefferson Davis Road, Chatmoss, Martinsville.

Barbara Simmons
A memorial service for Barbara "Brawley" Simmons, 69, of 1022 Morningside Lane, Martinsville, who died Jan. 31, 2006, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Martinsville. The Rev. Randall Stevens will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at the home on Morningside Lane.
She was born July 3, 1936, in Durham, N.C., to Charles Heriot Brawley and Hilda McCrary Brawley. She graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh, N.C., and received an associates degree from Peace College.
She was active in a number of community organizations as a volunteer, including being a board member of Citizens Against Family Violence and she was a literacy volunteer at the Blue Ridge Public Library. She belonged to the Wednesday Book Club, was a sustaining member of the Charity League of Martinsville and Henry County and a member of the Garden Study Club of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville where she was in the choir. She also was a member of the Piedmont Choral Society.
Surviving are two daughters, Tracy E. Simmons and Barbara "Ashley" Harris, both of Martinsville; a sister, Susanne B. Hooe of Cary, N.C.; three grandchildren; and three cousins.

Melvin Tatum, 68, of 533 Rock Hill Community Road, Bassett, died Wedneday, Feb. 1, 2006, at his home.
He was the husband of Frances Tatum.
