Brewster L. Scott
Brewster Luther Scott, 79, of Stuart, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick Memorial Hospital in Stuart.
Scott was born in Premier, W.Va. on May 12, 1926, to Luther D. Scott and Annice Foley Scott. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Martin Scott; a grandson, Marty Gates; and an infant brother.
A longtime Patrick County resident, he served with the Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. In the past, he had worked as a mechanic at Fieldcrest Mills, operated Scottie's Country Kitchen and sawmilled. He was a member of VFW Post 7800.
He was a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop No. 269 of Elamsville for 25 years; was a founding member of the Fairystone Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Founder's Committee, and he was a member of Fairystone Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi Snead Scott of the home; two daughters, Brenda
Smith of Martinsville and Penny Vipperman of Bassett; two sons, Stuart Scott and Mike Scott, both of Stuart; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eunice Synan of Richmond, Phyllis Hanchey of Stuart and Elaine Barnes of Rocky Mount; and six brothers, Cecil Scott, Richard Scott, Wilbur Scott, Arnold Scott and G.L. ÒDeanyÓ Scott, all of Stuart and Elliot Scott of Penhook.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fairystone Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Dunn officiating. Burial will be in the Foley family cemetery with military honors conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Verna Mae Stone
A private service for the family of Verna Mae Stone, 83, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 14, 2006, was held Monday with the Rev. Albert J. Robertson officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial park.
Pallbearers were Donald Ashby, Junior Cassidy, Steve Perry, Kelly Ratcliff and Eddie Rutter.
Community Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
Foye S. Thurman
The funeral for Foye Shelton Thurman, 88, of Stuart, and formerly of Martinsville, who died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Lazy Rest Adult Care in Stuart, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services. The Revs. Doby Salmons and Sonny Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at McKee-Stone Funeral Services from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
She was born in Henry County on Feb. 9, 1917, to Orris Ouden Shelton and Annie Campbell Shelton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Thurman; and two brothers, James O. Shelton and Pete W. Shelton.
Surviving are daughters, Barbara T.
Williams of Ridgeway, Sandra Reeves of Marion, N.C. and Mary Margaret Courson of Crossett, Ark.; sons, Warren Thurman of Spencer and Johnny Thurman of Ridgeway; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Betty Williams
The funeral for Betty Linn Williams, 72, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 13, 2006, was held Monday at Bassett Funeral Service with Dr. William Gunter officiating. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Danny Ingram, Jason Ingram, Terry Linn Jr., Ronnie Bryant, Johnny Bowman, Derek Digiovanni and Joshua Riggins.
Robert L. Anderson
Robert Louis Anderson, 69, of Claudville Hwy., Claudville, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006, at his home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Patrick County, to Sam and Bessie Love Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Frederick John Pike.
He served in the Army and retired from DuPont. He was a member of Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Verna Slate Pike Anderson of the home; two grandsons; a brother, Charles Anderson of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and a sister, Helen Matthews of Blacksburg.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church wit Fred Mortez and Loren
Brown officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Margaret T. Baldwin
A funeral Mass for Margaret Theall Baldwin, 84, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 19, 2006, was held Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Joe Torretto officiating. Entombment was at Roselawn Abbey.
Pallbearers were Alan Baldwin Jr., Sterling Baldwin, Mike Sites, Mark C. Baldwin, Dan Goren and George Sweeney.
Robert A. Britt
Robert Allen Britt, 73, of 77 First St., Collinsville, died Jan. 20, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Albemarle County, N.C. on May 22, 1932, to David Allen Britt and Sallie Beam Britt. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by three sisters; and a brother.
He graduated from high school, attended college and served in the Army with the 101st Airborne Division Rangers. He was a certified welder and retired from Martinsville Glass Products in Ridgeway.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Britt of Ridgeway; a son, Robert Allen Britt of Lexington, N.C.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Community Funeral Services was in charge of the funeral and burial which were private.
Gregory L. Burnett
Gregory L. Burnett, 48, of Fremont, Calif., died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, in Sacramento.
He was the son of Mahalie S. Burnett of Spencer and the late Glen E. Burnett.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date by Hines Funeral Services, Martinsville.

The funeral for Paul Vester Dalton, 84, of Ridgeway, who died Jan. 19, 2006, was held Monday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Philip Waltz officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
