Smith William Spencer Jr., 81, of Montross died Saturday, April 13, 2002, at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. A native of Oklahoma, Mr. Spencer had retired as a service-station cashier. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 429 in Oklahoma. He was the widower of Elsie J. Spencer. Survivors include a nephew and several cousins. A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Dennison Cemetery in Idabel, Okla. Welch Funeral Home, Montross, is handling the arrangements.

Magal P. "Madge" Riley, 81, of Oak Grove died at her residence Sunday, April 14, 2002. Born in Washburn, Maine, Mrs. Riley is survived by her husband, Floyd L. Riley; two daughters, Marie Macomber of Colonial Beach and Rose Morris of Opolis, Kan.; a sister, Verna Sears of Hartland, Maine; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was also the mother of the late Eugene Gagnon. A graveside service was held today in Historyland Memorial Park, King George. The Rev. Richard Headley officiated. Olive White Hartmann, 77, of Merritt Island, Fla., formerly of King George County, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at a hospital in Merritt Island. Mrs. Hartmann was a 1942 graduate of King George High School. Survivors include her husband, John E. Hartmann; a daughter, Virginia Ellen McBride of Chevy Chase, Md.; two sons, John Hartmann Jr. of Richmond and Thaddeus Hartmann of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Humphries of Merritt Island and Helen Lawson of Stanardsville; three brothers, Julian White of Fredericksburg, Nelson White of Kingston, N.Y., and Ernest White of King George. Jennifer J. Garner, 45, of King George County died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Medical College of Virginia Hospitals in Richmond, from complications of surgery. Mrs. Garner, who was known as Jenny, was born in Arlington. She had worked as a cook at Drew Middle School in Stafford County. Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Wayne Garner; a daughter, Heather McKinney of Prince Frederick, Md.; a son, Nathan Cherrico of Prince Frederick; her mother, Elisabeth Edwards of Casper, Wyo.; and a sister, Heidi Wienke of Casper. Carl Aubrey Coakley, 89, of King George County died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Mary Washington Hospital. A King George native, Mr. Coakley had been employed at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, from 1940 to 1970, when he retired as a mechanical engineering technician. He was a member of Potomac Baptist Church and enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables. He was the widower of Alice B. Coakley. Survivors include two sons, Gary V. Coakley of Newport News and Carl A. Coakley Jr. of King George; and a granddaughter. A graveside service was held Sunday, April 14, in Potomac Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. William Jeffcoat officiated. Mrs. Brooks had retired as a merchandise clerk at the Quantico Marine Corps Base. She was a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Stafford. She was the mother of the late Douglas O. Williams had retired from the Department of Army in Washington, D.C. Following his retirement, he worked for several boat marinas in Colonial Beach, refinishing boats. He was a member of the American Legion 146 in Washington and Moose Lodge 1267 in Colonial Beach. Barbara Mason Haley, 83, of Fredericksburg died Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Beverly Health Care. She was a native of King George County. Mrs. Haley had retired as a secretary for the Stafford County School Board. She was the widow of James Lester Haley. She was a founding member of Ferry Farm Baptist Church and a member of the Ann Paige Garden Club, the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, the Jan O'Dell Circle of Ferry Farm Baptist Church and the Golden Jubilee at the church. Survivors include two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Haley was also the mother of the late James M. Haley. A funeral was held Tuesday, March 19, at Ferry Farm Baptist Church. Enoch Roy "Jack" Estes, 82, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Beverly Health Care of Fredericksburg. He was the stepfather of Donnie Newton of King George County. Born in Stafford County, Mr. Estes had retired as a window framer for Boise Cascade. In addition to his stepson of King George, Mr. Estes is survived by two sons, Michael Estes of Spotsylvania County and Kenneth Estes of Stafford; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. No funeral is planned. Mr. Estes's body was donated to the Virginia Anatomical Division in Richmond for research. Born in King George, Mrs. Dillon had retired as a seamstress from Morganstern Pants Co. She was a member of Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Bristolsburg. In addition to her sister and brother of King George, Mrs. Dillon is survived by her husband, John P. Dillon; a daughter, Gladys A. Rodgers of Spotsylvania County; a son, Clifford Wilkerson of Fredericksburg; another sister, Emily Baker of Fredericksburg; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Wayne Benjamin Cherry, 58, of Norfolk, formerly of King George County, died Monday, March 4, 2002, in Norfolk. Born in Muskegon, Mich., Mr. Cherry was an electronic technician for the past 12 years. While living in King George, he worked at EG&G Services in Dahlgren and at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1080 and was a Vietnam veteran.
