Elma G. Sink
Elma Gay Sink, 61, of Bassett, died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Oakhill, W.Va., on Dec. 4, 1944, to Maurice Everett Sink and Katie Opal Shifflett Sink. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving are her sister, Betty Ragans of the home; a brother, Earl Sink of Bassett; and several nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bassett Funeral Service with Daryl B. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
Verna M. Stone
Verna Mae Stone, 83, of Beverly Health Care, Martinsville, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on Oct. 10, 1922, to Charlie Reed Stone and Onie Jane Sowder Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Leonard Stone.
She was a member of Hill Top Memorial Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are four sisters and two brothers.
A private service will be held Monday with the Rev. Albert J. Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
Community Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.
Foye S. Thurman
Foye Shelton Thurman, 88, of Martinsville, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Lazy Rest Adult Care in Stuart.

Geraldine H. Venn
The funeral for Geraldine Mae Hall Venn, 83, of Bassett, who died Jan. 11, 2006, was held Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. T.G. Ayers officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Jack Bors, Jarrett Jolly, Ted Stegall, Rick Sharp, Venn Blakley, Rick Cranston and George Nevergold.

Betty Linn Williams, 72, of Martinsville, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2006, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on Nov. 9, 1933, to Jack
Johnson and Sally Cowan Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph

Johnson Jr.
Surviving are a daughter, Brenda Ingram of Richmond; two sons, Terry Linn of Collinsville and Dale Linn of Martinsville; three sisters, Mae Blake, Mary Patrick and Carolyn Holbrook, all of Tennessee; a brother, Ricky
Johnson of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Bassett Funeral Service chapel with Dr. William Gunter officiating. Burial will be in Henry Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
William L. Williams
William Lee "Bill" Williams, 65, of 34 Cypress Lane, Collinsville, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at his home.
He was born in Giles County on July 4, 1940, to Donald L.
Williams and Elizabeth
Smith Williams.
He served in the Army during the Vietname War.
Surviving are a sister, Barbara Childress of Ridgeway; a brother, Howard
Williams of Collinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held at a later date.

Colene C. Mize, 75, of Liberty, N.C., formerly of Bassett, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro.

Brewster L. Scott
Brewster L. Scott, 79, of Fairystone Park Highway, Stuart, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006, at R.J. Reynolds Hospital.
He was the son of Luther Scott and Annie Foley Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving is his wife, Naomi Snead Scott.

Lucy M. Shelton
Lucy Merriman Shelton, 96, of 178 Merriman Road, Fieldale, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at Blue Ridge Rehab.
She was born in Henry County on Oct. 21, 1909 to Charles Lee Merriman and Mary Clark Merriman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Shelton; three sisters, Sue M. Wilkinson, Virginia M. Compton and Polly M. Barrow; and two brothers, J. William Merriman and Ernest L. "Buck" Merriman.
She was employed by Fieldcrest Mills for over 40 years. She was a member of Fieldale Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school superintendent, was an active member of the Womens Circle and sang with the Joyful Singers.
Surviving are two daughters, Nadine Padgett of Fieldale and Molly Cooksey of Lewisville, N.C.; a brother, George W. Merriman of Fieldale; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Collins Funeral Services chapel with Dr. Joe Bryant officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Services.
