David Nelson Mahoney 88 years
David Nelson Mahoney, 88, of Dahlgren died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at his home. Born in Crisfield, Md., Mr. Mahoney was a bricklayer, master carpenter and cabinetmaker at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, until his retirement in 1973. Before joining NSWC, he was a boat builder. He was a member of and longtime deacon at Oakland Baptist Church in King George. Garry Wayne Lewis, 53, of King George County died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. Born in Northumberland County, he had retired as a safety inspector from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. Survivors include a son, Garry Lewis of Montross; two sisters, Joyce Barber of Richmond and Betty VanLandingham of Callao; and two brothers, Gilliam Lewis of Callao and James Lewis. Ellen Ann Jenkins, 84, of King George County died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, at Mary Washington Health Center in Colonial Beach. Born in King George, Ms. Jenkins had retired from the King George Packing Co. after 40 years. She was a longtime member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret "Margie" Gutridge of King George; a sister, Etta Jenkins of King George; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Ms. Jenkins was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara "Peggy" Atkinson and Etta "Jean" Gutridge, both of King George; and a son, William "Bubby" Jenkins of King George. Sadie A. Deagle, 90, of Colonial Beach, formerly of Mathews, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Mary Washington Health Care in Colonial Beach. She was a member of New Point Friends Church in Mathews. Williams worked as a carpet binder for Hecht’s in Washington. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in King George, where he was active in the Men’s Organization. The Rev. Robert H. Lawrence 78 years
The Rev. Robert H. Lawrence, 78, of Swoope, former pastor of Colonial Beach United Methodist Church, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at his residence. The Rev. Lawrence, born in Stanley, was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Conference and had been a minister for 40 years. He pastored the church in Colonial Beach in the late 1970s and 1980s. His hobbies included woodworking, oil painting and bricklaying. While pastor at the Colonial Beach church, he did remodeling work on the altar, a lounge, built a kitchen and laid brick on the church’s annex and a fellowship hall. He was the widower of Ruth Elizabeth Ludwig Lawrence. Survivors include a son, Gary Wayne Lawrence of Greenville; a sister, Cornelia Snider of Lexington; a grandson; and two great-grandsons. A funeral was held last Tuesday at Henry Funeral Home, Staunton. Burial was in Thornrose Cemetery. Winifred Helen Kingree, 82, of Colonial Beach died at her residence Tuesday, March 6, 2001. Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Kingree had retired from A&P Grocery in Arlington and was one of the first women in the Marine Corps. Survivors include two daughters, P.J. Drury of Huntingdon, Tenn., and Patty Ahearn of Colonial Beach; three sons, Thomas J. Ahearn of Ashboro, N.C., Timothy Ahearn of Missoula, Mont., and Freddy Ahearn of Colonial Beach; three brothers; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Oscar William Clark Sr., 65, of Montross in Westmoreland County died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital. Mr. Clark was self employed as a marine contractor. Richard Alan Schneider, 72, of Arlington, formerly of King George County, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, while vacationing at his residence in Cape Coral, Fla. Born in Jacksonville, Fla., Mr. Schneider had retired as a buyer for Woodward & Lothrop in Northern Virginia after 20 years. He was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Arlington, where he was president of the congregation, delivered meals to those in need and also drove them to doctor appointments. Survivors include his wife, Lorene W. Schneider, also formerly of King George; a daughter, Patricia S. Collins of Alexandria; a son, David R.
