Kate Virginia Staples, 76, of King George County died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Born in King George, Mrs. Staples was a member of Montague Baptist Church there and was the widow of Henry R. Staples.
Survivors include four daughters, Linda White and Doris Madison, both of King George, Diana Grewe of Camp Hill, Pa., and Betty Staples of Corbin; a son, William F. "Buck" Staples of Caroline County; a sister, Nettie Frank of King George; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 7, at Montague Baptist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Brooks officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.
Harold Cox 86
Harold Wilson Cox, 86, of Fairview Beach died Monday, July 31, 2000, at his home.
Born in Stafford County, Mr. Cox had retired from Farmers Creamery after 24 years. He was a member of First Christian Church in Fredericksburg and the Fredericksburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was the widower of Gaynell Cox.
Survivors include a sister, Pearl Harris of Fredericksburg; a brother, Sidney Cox of Alexandria; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Sylvia May Osborne.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Aug. 4, 2000, in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Elwood Campbell officiated.

Davis Wesley Arbogast, 58, of King George County died Monday, July 31, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long illness.
Born in West Virginia, Mr. Arbogast worked as a tire technician at Servicetown.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan L. Bradley and Kathy A Arbogast, both of King George; two sons, Raymond M. Arbogast of King George and David W. Arbogast Jr. of Charleston, W.Va.; two sisters, Joann Currence and Maxine Cromer, both of West Virginia; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A funeral was held Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, in West Virginia.

Merrill Lomax 79
A funeral for Merrill W. Lomax, 79, of King George County was held Saturday, Aug. 5th, at Cedell Brooks Funeral Home, Port Royal. The Rev. L.G. Bland officiate and burial was in Salem Baptist Church cemetery at Jersey.
Mr. Lomax died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital after a long illness.
Born at Shiloh, he worked as a farm laborer and was a member of Salem Baptist Church. He was the widower of Beulah Lomax.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Donald Clifton Foster, 64, of Colonial Beach died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his home.
A native of Colonial Beach, Mr.
Foster had retired as supervisor of the Colonial Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant after 38 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Susie M. Foster; two daughters, Linda Hayden and Lisa M. Foster, both of Colonial Beach; two sons, Donald C.
Foster of Alexandria and Clifton D.
Foster of Colonial Beach; a sister, Ola F. Hogge and a brother, Herbert Foster, both of Colonial Beach; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral was held Tuesday, at Nash & Slaw Funeral Home in Colonial Beach, and burial was at St. Peter's Cemetery at Oak Grove. The Rev. Scottie Jackson officiated.
LaVerne R. Plowman 82
LaVerne R. Plowman, 82, of Colonial Beach died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Plowman, born in York, Pa., had retired as a physical therapist in Fairfax.
He was a 1952 graduate of St. Louis University and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran. He was also a professional musician, having played the clarinet and saxophone.
He was the widower of Olga Elizabeth Plowman.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Lunceford of King George County; two sisters, Marion V. Roach and Doris Jean Tufaroal, both of PA.; a brother, Harold R. Plowman of AZ.; two grandchildren; and six nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Leslie Sanford 79
Leslie M. Sanford, 79, of Ruther Glen in Caroline County died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond.
Born in Westmoreland County, Mr. Sanford had retired as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy after 28 years. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietname War.
Survivors include his wife, Aleeyne Sanford; a daughter, Betty Ostergren of Mechanicsville; a son, Leslie M. Sanford Jr. of King George County; a brother, John H. Sanford of Montross; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late William H. Sanford and Stuart A. Sanford.
A graveside service with military honors was held Sunday, Aug. 5, in St. Paul's United Methodist Church cemetery in Ruther Glen.

Margaret Lowery 87
Margaret Palmer Lowery, 87, of Montross died at her home on Friday, Aug. 4, 2000.
Mrs. Lowery worked for 58 years at Peoples Drug Store in Montross, a business founded in 1934 by her late husband, Walter Norris Lowery.
She was one of the first two women to serve on the MOntross Town Council. For many years, she chaired the Westmoreland County Bloodmobile.
Mrs. Lowery was a member of St. James Episcal Church and a former member of the George Washington Birthplace National Memorial Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Westmoreland Garden Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret Lowery Burner of Montross; a son, Walter Palmer Lowery of Newport News; a brother, John Gresham Palmer of Merry Point, Va.; a sister, Louise Palmer Jesse of Lively, Va.; and four grandsons.
A funeral was held Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at St. James Episcopal Church. The Rev. Prentice Kinser III, interim rector, officiated and burial followed at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

James Robert Flannery, 42, pf Colonial Beach died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Flannery, born in Youngtown, Ohio, was a self-employed contractor. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Campbell, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Chatham Flannery; a son, Cory Franklin Robert Flannery of the home; his parents, Robert P. and Joanne B. Flannery of Warren, Ohio; two sisters, Sherrie F. Varga of Struthers, Ohio, and Jackie F.
Brown of New Middleton, Ohio; and a brother, John Robert Flannery of Niles, Ohio.

A funeral for Leonard Howard "Buddy" Balderson, 73, of Montross, was held Thursday, July 27, at Welch Funeral Home, Montross. The Rev. Joan Daniels officiated and burial was at Ephesus Christian Church in Foneswood.
Mr. Balderson died at his home Tuesday, July 25, 2000.
He had retired as a self-employed carpenter, was a member of Ephesus Christian Church and was a Army veteran of World War II.

Margaret B. Beatty, 81, of Colonial Beach, formerly of alexandria, died Saturday, July 22, 2000, in Colonial Beach.
Mrs. Beatty was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Women of the Moose in Colonial Beach anf the Order of the Eastern Star in Alexandria.
She was the widow of James William Beatty.
Survivors include three daughters, Paulette Worrell of Colonial Beach, Linda Machino of Stafford and Pamela B. Childers of Colonial Beach; a son, Air Force Maj. William Duane Beatty of Schertz, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
