Raymond John Simak
Raymond John Simak II, 42, of Sterling died July 22 at Alexandria Hospital.
He was born May 5, 1961 in Swissvale, Pa. He was the son of Eva Louise Holquin DeMarr of Prince Fredrick, Md. and the late Raymond John Simak.
Survivors include one daughter, Heather Simak of Sterling; two sisters, Deborah St. John of Huntingtown, Md. and Donna Fleming of Vienna, Va.; nieces and nephews.

James Douglas Hall
James Douglas Hall of Ashburn died Aug. 14 at Loudoun Hospital Center.
He was born March 22, 1930 in Elizabeth, N.J. He was a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. Government.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy M. Hall of Ashburn; his children, Sharon Hall, Tina Hall and Linda Cerniglia, all of Sterling, and Cathy Horvath of Kernersville, N.C.; one brother, Donald Hall; and five grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Aug. 18 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Adams-

William David Thornton
William David Thornton Jr., 39, a resident of Sterling, died Aug. 23 after an automobile accident near Charlestown, W.Va.
He was born June 15, 1964 in Leesburg, and was a 1982 graduate of Broad Run High School. He worked as a mechanic for Don’s Exxon in Ashburn until it closed. Known for his carpentry work, he was employed by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. He was a veteran of the U.S.Army.
Survivors include his parents, William D. Thornton Sr. and Doris Roberta Thornton of Sterling; a sister, Pamela Wvette Thornton of Leesburg; three brothers, Larry Donnell Thornton of Martinsburg, W.Va., Darryl Edward and wife Lisa Thornton of Centreville, and Charles Michael Thornton of Sterling; six aunts, ten uncles, and 11 nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Loudoun Funeral Chapel in Leesburg from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Aug. 27. Services will be held at the chapel at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, with the Rev. Wayne Bowles officiating. Victor Manuel Ayala
Victor Manuel Ayala of Sterling died Sept. 5, his 62nd birthday, after a 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer. He died at the home of his son, Eric Ayala, in San Francisco.
He was born Sept. 5, 1941 in Quito, Ecuador. He was a hairstylist and business owner in the Sterling area for 22 years.
Other survivors include his wife, Martha Ayala of Sterling; a daughter, Tanya Ayala of Sterling; his mother, Maria Ofelia Ayala; and seven brothers and sisters.

Nancy C. Brocke
Nancy C. Brocke, 41, of Ashburn died Sept. 3 at her home.
She was born July 26, 1962 in Dallas, Texas to Don F. and Dorothy Forshee Cook of Englewood, Tn. Survivors include her husband, Timothy E. Brocke; her children, Conner and Corey Brocke. She was the sister of Frank Cook of Jupiter, Fl., Eric Cook of Plano, Texas, and Drew Cook of Canon, Ga. Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at Community Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Brian Clark officiating. Interment was at Sterling Cemetery.

Robert (Bobby) D. Cole
Robert (Bobby) Douglas Cole, 50, of Reston died Aug. 29 at the Veterans Hospital in Washington, D.C.
He was born Feb. 9, 1953 in Floris, Va. to Hazel Catherine Payne Cole of Reston and the late William Arthur Cole. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Herndon.
Survivors include his sisters, Nancy
Smith of Centreville, Ruth Bates of Arcola, Caroline Church of Haymarket and Edith Harper of Cary, N.C.; and two brothers, William Cole of Fairfax and Bernard Cole of Jefferston, Va.

Ralph Eugene Fields
Ralph Eugene Fields, 72, of Sterling died Sept. 8 at his home after a long illness.
He was born Feb. 15, 1931 in Muncie, In. to the late William J. and Catherine Graham Fields. He was a 1949 graduate of Muncie Central High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950, and received a Purple Heart during a tour of duty in Korea. He later served as Crew Chief on President Kennedy’s helicopter. He was a charter member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church of Muncie.
Survivors include his wife, Violet Pannek Fields; his children, Ronald Fields of Spring Valley, Ca., Timothy Fields of Colonial Heights, Va., and Kathy Fields of Fallbrook, Ca.; his stepchildren, Janes Holzapfel of Houston, Carol Lach of Framingham, Ma., and Marisa Dean of Surfside Beach, Ca.; his sisters, Joyce Renbarger and husband Basil, and Helen Bartlett, all of Muncie; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Fields; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ross Panzera
Ross Panzera, 89, a resident of Sterling since 1963, died Aug. 29 at Loudoun Hospital Center.
He was born July 2, 1914 in Uniontown, Pa. to the late Dominick and Rosa Panzera. He came to the Washington area in the early 1940s and worked as an engineering draftsman with the Naval Gun Factory, Naval Research Laboratory and Harry Diamond Fuse Laboratory for 31 years. During his 30 years of retirement, he was active in the Masons and the Eastern Star. He was a Past Master, Sterling-Ashurn Masonic Lodge 288; Past Patron, Herndon Chapter 55, Order of the Eastern Star of Virginia; Past Patron, Friendship Chapter 17, Order of the Eastern Star of D.C.; Past High Priest and Secretary Ameritus, Loudoun Chapter 26, Knights Templar of Virginia; and Past President and Charter Member, Dulles Chapter 1241, National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife, Olive V. Panzera of Sterling; a son, Ronald Panzera of Columbia, Md.; a daughter, Judith Lue of Dover, De.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Victor C. Piacente
Victor C. Piacente, 58, of Sterling died Sept. 1 at Hospice of Northern Virginia.
He was born April 17, 1945 in Hazelton, Pa. to Mary Delores Yacubic Piacente of Hazelton, Pa. and the late Victor Frank Piacente. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Linda K. Piacente; one son, Eric Scott Piacente; his brothers and sisters, Carol Ann Sitler, Lawrence Piacente, Jacqueline Piacente and Timothy Piacente; grandchildren Logan and Peri Piacente; and friends Al and Pat Jackson and family.

Charles Edward Henley
Charles Edward Henley of Sterling, a retired American Automobile Association (AAA) executive and World War II veteran, died Sept. 25 at Loudoun Hospital Center, of respiratory failure and pneumonia. He was 90.
Born Sept. 26, 1912 in Muskogee, Ok., he was the son of Homer Forrest and Anna Myrtis Henley. He graduated from Daytona Beach (Fl.) Mainland High School in 1931, and moved to Washington, D.C. with his parents. He held numerous executive and management positions throughout his 31-year AAA career, retiring in 1977 as Director, Member Relations.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the 313th Bomber Wing, 20th Air Force, based on Tinian Island in the South Pacific. While in the U.S. Army Air Corps, he met his future wife, Winnifred Frances Pain, who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). They were married on Feb. 7, 1945. He was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Squadron Sergeant Major. He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, and the Army Commendation Ribbon.
A lifelong automotive enthusiast, He was a Founding Charter Member of the National Capital Division of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). He was also an active member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), the Auburn Cord Dusenberg (ACD) Club and numerous other automotive organizations. Winnie Henley, his wife of 58 years, died June 3, 2003.
Survivors include two sons, David Edward Henley of Sterling and Norman Douglas Henley of Annandale; three daughters, Winnifred Myrtis Reed of Sherwood, Mich., Barbara Louise Shirvani of Delmar, Md; and Judith Eileen
Williams of Sterling; eleven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Services were planned for Sept. 29 at the Adams-
