Zella Arnett Nichols
Zella Arnett Nichols, 91, of Sterling, Va. and Knoxville, Tn., died Jan. 8.
She was born June 17, 1911 in Mohawk, Tn., was reared in New Market, and lived in Knoxville until 1999. A member of Faith Bible Church in Sterling, she had served for many years as a teacher and department administrator for primary age children in McCalla Avenue Baptist Church, Central Baptist of Bearden, and Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Star Sales of Knoxville.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edward A. and Kayleen F. Nichols of Sterling; grandchildren Timothy R. Nichols of California, Mark A. Nichols of Virginia and Lydia R. Nichols of Michigan; a sister-in-law, Polly Arnett of Knoxville; and nieces and nephews in Florida and North Carolina.
A memorial service was held Jan. 13 at Faith Bible Church in Sterling, with Dr. John Fletcher officiating. Interment will be in Eastview Memorial Gardens, Knoxville, Tn.
Nelly G. Travez
Nelly G. Travez of Ashburn died Jan. 7 at Reston Hospital.
She was born Dec. 1, 1942 in Guatemala to Luis Beltgran and Mercedes S. Gordillo Guillen.
Survivors include her husband, Giovani Travez of Ashburn; two children, Juan Giovani Travez Jr. of Ashburn and Nelly Travez Somerkamp of Mechanicsville, Md.; four sisters, Martha Guillen, Leticia Guillen, Lesbia Burton and Estrella Guillen; two sisters-in-law, Adela Aguirre and Ines Tapia; and three grandchildren.

Harry Newton Lear Jr.
Harry Newton Lear Jr., 74, a resident of Nokesville, died Feb. 7 at Prince William Hospital in Manassas.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lear of Nokesville; his children, Theresa Lear of Sterling and Harry N. Lear III of Nokesville; sisters Anna Caynor and Gail Lear, both of Berryville; one brother, Donald C. Lear of Sterling; and grandchildren Lauren (Nikki) and Mike Thompson, both of Sterling, and Kristin, Bailey and Jackie Lear, all of Nokesville.

Charlotte (Alene) Rand
Charlotte (Alene) Rand of Purcellville died Feb. 11 at her home.
She was born June 15, 1937 in Eastman, Ga. to the late Thomas Martin and Annie Lois Haynes Peacock. She was the widow of the late Allison Rand.
Survivors include her children Michael Houtz of Leesburg, Monty Houtz of Leesburg, Pamela Cotton of Ashburn, Brett Houtz of Purcellville, Mickey Houtz of Purcellville; one sister, Melba Ayres of Waldorf, Md.; five brothers, Raymond Peacock of Marion, Ark., and Charles Peacock, Edwin Peacock, Verlin Peacock and David Peacock, all of Jacksonville, Fl.; and 15 grandchildren. Joan Gail Rutherford
Joan Gail Rutherford died Feb. 14 at her home in Sterling.
She was born March 28, 1936 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Joseph and Jean Westenholtz Swankowski.
Survivors include her husband, Jess J. Rutherford of Sterling; children Paul Rowe of Mundelin, Ill., Larry Rutherford of Phoeniz, Ariz., and Jess Rutherford, Shelly Jacks and Jeffrey Rutherford, all of Sterling, and Kate Cradit of Denver; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

John Ho
John Ho of Crab Orchard Ct. in Ashburn died of a stroke Feb. 19 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
He was 45 years old. He was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1957. In 1975, he left Saigon to live in Paris and later Bourg La Reine, France. He moved to Fairfax in 1979 and attended the University of Maryland from 1981 to 1985. He received a BS in Electrical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude. He has since worked in information systems, and moved to Ashburn in 1998.
Survivors include his mother, three brothers and six sisters. He was buried at National Memorial Park in Falls Church on Monday, Feb. 24.
R. Evelyn Patterson
R. Evelyn Patterson of Leesburg died March 1 at Loudoun Hospital Center.
She was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Washington,D.C. to the late Daniel and Rose Roche. She was the widow of the late Robert L. Patterson Jr.
Survivors include her children, Daniel L. Fines Sr. of Great Falls, Katherine Adele Zimmermann of DeRidder, La., and Karen Arlene Saplak of Roanoke, and five grandchildren.
The family was scheduled to receive friends from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 at Adams-
Green Funeral Home in Herndon. Services were planned for 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6 at Adams-Green, with interment at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made in her name to Christian Fellowship Church Music Ministries, 21673 Beaumeade Circle, Ashburn, Va. 20147.
Evelyn Louise Snyder
Evelyn Louise Snyder, 84, of Sterling died March 2 at Sunrise Retirement Home.
She was born Aug. 28, 1918 in Canisteo, N.Y. She had worked as the University of Rochester. She was the widow of the late Gordon W. Snyder.
Survivors include one daughter, Karen M. Sibalik of Sterling; one son, Archie Snyder of Tarpon Springs, Fl.; one brother, James Crain of Hornell, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Heidi Padgett, Heather Allison and Cindy Snyder; and two great-grandchildren, Karina Padgett and Riley Allison.
Services were held March 4 at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, with the Rev. Sydney Stewart officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hillside Children’s Center, 1183 Monroe Ave., Rochester, N.Y. 14620-1699.
Mabel Catherine Spurlock
Mabel Catherine Spurlock, 76, of Leesburg died March 2 at Loudoun Hospital Center.
She was born Oct. 28, 1926 in Virginia. She was the widow of the late Elmo Spurlock.
Survivors include a brother, James Jenkins of Leesburg, and four sisters, Nancy Arnhalt of Knoxville, Md., Betty Colley of Amisville, Va., Margaret Longerbeam of West Virginia, and Martha Hedrick of Herndon.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, with the Rev. James W. Greene officiating. Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
Vivian Kaiser
Vivian Kaiser, 70, died March 4 at her home in Ashburn.
She was born July 2, 1932 in Clifton, N.J.
Survivors includes her husband, Sidney Kaiser; her children, David Kaiser and Karen Kaiser Mabry; and grandchildren Lauren Kaiser and Will and Michael Mabry.
