Tyler Grant McMahonn
Tyler Grant McMahon, 27, died Nov. 19 at his home in Reston.
He was born in Falls Church, and attended school in Sterling and Reston. He graduated from South Lakes High School, Reston, in 1992, and was awarded an advanced studies degree with the governor’s seal. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a Civil Engineering Degree in 1999, and was a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Freshman Honor Society. He earned a Certificate of Completion from Northern Virginia Community College in April 2000 as a medical assistant. He hoped to work in the social services field in order to help others with emotional and mental disorders. McMahon loved sports, adventure, and animals. During his life he had flown an airplane, skydived, scuba dived, snow skied, played soccer and tennis, and was a gymnast. He loved watching NBA games. His father was the late Richard Grant McMahon.
Survivors include his mother, Paula Alley McMahon; a twin sister, Alaina Christine McMahon of Arlington; one brother, Aaron Richard McMahon and sister-in-law, Gabriela McMahon; nephew and niece, Flavio and Micaela McMahon of Alexandria; his grandmothers, Rosemary V. McMahon of Washington, D.C., and Mary Alley Meyers of Nampa, Idaho numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins in metro D.C. and in Idaho, and cousin Matthew Weber of Arizona.
A private memorial service for family members was held on Nov. 23, at Adams-

June Elaine Gebhardt
June Elaine Gebhardt, 81, of Ashburn died Jan. 24 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
She as born Nov. 27, 1920 in Pennsylvania.
Survivors include one son, Bernie P. Gebhardt Jr. of Ashburn; one daughter, Ruth L. White of Aloha, Or.; three brothers, Earl Kauffman, Raymond Kauffman and Samuel Kauffman, all of Pennsylvania; grandsons, Frank Bajowski III and Jason White, both of Leesburg; one granddaughter, Laura W. Hall of Leesburg; and two great-grandchildren, Frank Bajowski IV and Andrew Hall.
Services were scheduled for Jan. 28 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, with Father Richard Mullins officiating. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery in Leesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 124 Park St. S.E., P.O. Box 699, Vienna, Va. 22183-0699.
Wallace E. Whitmore
Wallace E. Whitmore, a longtime attorney and founder of the Whitmore Associates private law practice, died of congestive heart failure Jan. 27 at his home in Ashburn.
He was born in Lynchburg and was reared in Covington, Va. He served as a Seaman First Class on the U.S.S.Cleveland during World War II and later graduated from the University of Maryland, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He attended Georgetown Law School where he graduated in 1958. He was employed by the Regional Counsel’s Office of the I.R.S. in Greensboro, N.C. before joining the law firm of Wilkes, Artis, Hedrick and Lane in 1965. He retired in 1986 as a Senior Tax Partner. In 1994 he became a member of the Virginia Bar Association and founded the law practice that he maintained until his death.
An avid fisherman and sports fan, he became a Redskins season ticket holder in 1965 and an Orioles season ticket holder in the early 1980s. He was President of the Maryland Terrapin Club in 1984-85, and then became a member of the Maryland Education Foundation where he served for over a decade. He was also awarded membership in the M Club.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret N. Whitmore of Ashburn; one brother, Robert B. Whitmore of Surry, Maine; one sister, Lois V. Barth of Falls Church; four children, David W. Whitmore of Bethesda, Laura W. Anderson of Middleburg, Douglas N. Whitmore of Ashburn and Robert C. Whitmore of Bethesda; and six grandchildren, David Whitmore Jr., Ashley Anderson, Kirsten Anderson, Alisha Wheeler, Rachelle Mitri and Jonathan Mitri.
Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maryland Education Foundation of the University of Maryland. Arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg.
Berge M. Black
Berge M. Black of Sterling died Feb. 12 at his home.
He was born March 17, 1913 and raised in Cherryville, N.C. He was a carpenter/foreman for Safeway until his retirement, and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union for 45 years. He was a member of the United Church of Christ and a member of the Masonic Order for 50 years.
A lifelong advocate for safety, he campaigned in support of mailboxes with doors at each end so that residents would not stand near roadways to remove their mail. Since 1993, he had also sought approval for a series of stamps bearing safety messages.
“I have been personally affected by the loss of life while picking up mail and therefore have emphasized the two-door mailbox as a safety feature in the series,” He wrote federal officials at age 88. He also proposed warnings in support of safety belts, home safety, CPR classes and others.
Survivors include his wife, F. Monteen Black of Sterling; two sons, Aryln K. Black and Eric S. Black, both of Sterling; one daughter, Barbra Eschmann of Rantoul, Il.; eleven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister.

Robert Forsythe Floyd
Robert Forsythe Floyd died Feb. 12 at his home in Sterling.
He was born Feb. 27, 1927 in Knoxville, Tenn. and was reared on the family farm in Boyd, Ky. He served with the U.S. Marines in Guam during World War II and retired from the Government Printing Office in 1987.
Survivors include his wife, Maysie W. Floyd; one son, Robert W. Floyd of Furnace Mountain, Loudoun County; three daughters, Mary Lynn Hensley of Iowa City, Iowa, Suellen Pometto of Boone, Iowa and Elaine F. Bohumil of Sterling; and ten grandchildren.

Stephen C. Smith
Stephen C. Smith, 53, of Ashburn, died Feb. 4 at Loudoun Hospital Center.
He was born Nov. 18, 1948, in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Smith of Falls Church; and daughter and son-in-law Kelly E. and Justin M. McCahren.

Jack W. Woodruff
Jack A. Woodruff, 49, of Sterling, Virginia landscape manager for Wardman Tower Marriott and Washington Omni Hotels of Washington, died of cancer Feb. 16 at Halquist Memorial Hospice Center in Arlington.
He was a Deacon and active member of the Potomac Baptist Church in Sterling, and was widely known as the “Candy Man.” He also won many awards and honors during his landscaping career.
He was married for 26 years to his wife, Joan, and had three children, Jeff, Jenny and Jill. Other survivors include his father, Frank Woodruff of Avon Park, Fl.; a brother, Jim Woodruff of LaPort, In.; and four sisters, Ellen Bornall of LaPorte, In., Peggy Cooper of Sebring, Fl, Donna Lute of Mill Creek, In., and Kathy Woodruff of Sebring, Fla.

Loraine E. Dexte
Loraine E. Dexter died Feb. 22 at Loudoun Long Term Care in Leesburg.
She was born Jan. 26, 1914 in Dundalk, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldo H. Dexter. Survivors include two brothers, Kenneth Roberts of Chantilly and Bob Roberts of Fairfax Station, and nine nieces and nephews. Services were held March 5 at Adams-

Greg Allen Ford
Greg Allen Ford, 49, an employee of the mill shop at Tart Lumber in Sterling, died March 2 at Loudoun Hospital Center. A resident of Harpers Ferry, he was born Oct. 6, 1952 in Frederick, Md.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy G. Ford of Harpers Ferry; one daughter, Penny Lane Ford of Arlington; a brother, Charles Wayne Ford of Millport, Pa.; one sister, Linda Ford of Millport; and nieces and nephews.
