Channie W. Oliver
The funeral for Channie Wade Oliver, 95, of Fieldale, who died Dec. 29, 2005, was held Tuesday at New Bethel Christian Church with the Rev. Mable Finney officiating. Burial was in Carver Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Tim Prunty, Larry Scott, Ricky Penn Jr., Kevin Scott, Jessie C. Oliver, Edward Young, Clyde Scott Jr., Vaughn Parker and Antonio O. Oliver.

Archie L. Osborne
GRETNA -- Archie Linwood Osborne, 77, of 105 Luster road, Gretna, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2005, at RJR Patrick Memorial Hospital in Stuart.
He was born in Pittsylvania County on June 24, 1928, to Henry Wade Osborne and Alease Adkins Osborne. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by two sisters, Alma
Johnson and Hazel Hearl.
Osborne was a veteran of the Air Force and a member of American Legion Post 232. He was a retired farmer and a former bus driver for Pittsylvania County Schools and former Klopman Mills employee. He was a member of Greenbay Christian Church and a former member of the Climax Ruritan Club.
Surviving are his wife, Clara Jane George Osborne of the home; a son, Lynn Osborne of Gretna; a daughter, Charlotte Craig of Bassett; two brothers, Marvin "Pete" Osborne of Blairs and Averette Osborne of Paint Lick, Ky.; three sisters, Mazie Beckham, Thelma Pippin and Geraldine Godfrey, all of Gretna; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Greenbay Christian Church with be Ministers Rudy Hearn, Cecil Davis and Frank Fuller officiating. Burial will be in the Carol O. Moran Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Lois M. Purdy
Lois Mason Purdy, 82, of Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home, Rocky Mount, and formerly of Spencer, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2006, at the rest home.
She was born in Franklin County on Aug. 13, 1923, to Pinky Mason and Cora Mullins Mason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Curtie Ramsey; and a brother, Ralph Mason.
She retired from DuPont, where she worked in the spinneret departments, and she was a member of Calvary Christian Church.
Surviving is her husband, Fred Swanson Purdy of Spencer.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Norris Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Wood officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
Visitation will be at Norris Funeral Services from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

Jerrod T. Smith
The funeral for Jerrod Tyrone Smith, 22, of Birmingham, Ala., who died Dec. 28, 2005, was held Tuesday at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Carlton L. Redd officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeffrey Draper, Kenneth Draper, Michael France, Eric Rea, Terry Smith, Harold Hodge and Chadwick Draper.

Edna H. Wilson
The funeral for Edna Hundley Wilson, 85, of the Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Martinsville, who died Dec. 31, 2005, was held Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Redd officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Dale Davis, Matthew Davis, Danny Motley, Dereck Motley, Brandon Motley, Bobby Wilson, Mike Wilson and Daniel Hundley.

J. Troy Arrington
The funeral for J. Troy Arrington, 67, of Collinsville, who died Jan. 1, 2006, was held Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. Susan Brack officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial park.
Pallbearers were Ernie Hundley, Ryan Patton, Travis Patton, Brent Hundley, Joe Patton and Jason Hundley.
Ada Campbell
Ada Elizabeth Campbell, 92, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville.

Nellie R. Compton
Nellie Richards Compton, 83, of 815 Burgess St., Martinsville, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Floyd County on Nov. 28, 1922, to Isaac and Mindie Nowlin Richards. Her husband, Alvin H. Compton and son, Jim Compton, both died in 2005. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Lemons; and two brothers, Berkley and Elliott Richards.
She was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, John Lee Compton of Collinsville; a daughter, Judith Chisholm of Falls Church; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Harris officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service Saturday.

Wilbur S. Doyle
The funeral for Wilbur
Smith Doyle, 82, of Martinsville, who died Jan. 2, 2006, was held Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Martinsville. Dr. E. Leon Smith, the Rev. John T. Fulcher Jr. and Dr. Edwin G. Wilson officiated. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park with a U.S. Flag presentation made by the the Army Reserves detail in Salem.
Pallbearers were David Bowles, Scott Doyle, Tommy Wade Turner, Ronnie K. Wood, Dr. G. Samuel Hurt, William C. Smith, Hal G. Prillaman, Dr. Don Holsinger, Dr. William Lewis, Dr. Bate C. Toms, Jerry L. Jordan and Dr. H. Marvin Midkiff.
Honorary pallbearers were member of the Martinsville Rotary Club and the Chevis F. Horne Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church of Martinsville.

Anna Lee Manns
The funeral for Anna Lee Manns, 90, of 410 Swanson St., Martinsville, who died Jan. 1, 2006, at Beverly Healthcare, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hairston Funeral Home with the Rev. Ruben Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Gardens.
The family is receiving friends at the home on Swanson Street, and will be at the funeral home to receive friends for a half hour prior to the service Friday.
Manns was born in Walnut Cove, N.C. on April 12, 1915, to Noli Howard and Nancy Fulton Howard. She also was preceded in death by six brothers, George, Gilbert, Wilbert, John, Hayward and Arnette Howard; and a sister, Laura Howard.
She retired from the former Standard Garments. She was an active member of Mount Zion A.M.E. Church, serving on the usher board, Stewart board, on the kitchen committee and in the Missionary Society.
Surviving are one sister, Fannie Howard of Martinsville; 12 nieces and 15 nephews.

The funeral for Norris Prillaman Miller, 84, of Friendship Health Care Center in Roanoke and formerly of Barrows Mill Road, Martinsville, who died Jan. 2, 2006, was held Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services with the Rev. John K. Boyd officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Burial Park.
