Mr. William H. "Bozo" Harrison, 70, of Emporia, died Thursday, February 7, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth S. Harrison; one son, J. Bret Harrison of Charlottesville; a sister, Mildred Sadler and husband, Warren of Gainesville, Fla. and several nieces and nephews. A son, William H. Harrison Jr., preceded Mr. Harrison in death. He retired as a district manager from Contel Telephone after 35 years service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Adams Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday (tonight) at Owen Funeral Home in Jarratt where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002. Clara Watson Hodge Hinchey, age 94, of Richmond, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2002. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Joseph B. Hinchey Jr. and his wife, Janie; her son, Donald C. Hinchey and his wife, Flanders; her daughter, Louise J. Smithson and her husband, Clyde; her daughter, Kathleen H. Martine and her husband, Roy; her son, Michael S. Hinchey and his wife, Jessie; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, Patrick G. Hinchey. Mrs. Hinchey was born in 1907 in Warm Springs, Virginia to Charles and Jennie Hodge. She graduated as a registered nurse from C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge in 1928 and was instructor of Student Nurses at Winchester Memorial Hospital until her retirement. Her family would like to celebrate her life with her many friends at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, Friday, February 8 from 7 to 9 p.m., and where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002, Dr. Nelson Ould and Dr. Thomas Gaskins will officiate. Mr. William Earl Hines, age 82, Tuscumbia, Ala., passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2002. Mr. Hines served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellie Adams Hines; parents, Joseph M. and Leona C. Hines; brothers, Hubert, Henry and Clarence Hines; sisters, Clura H. Irons, Coretta H. Marshall and Marie H. Rutherford. He is survived by sons, Anthony Hines, Muscle Shoals, Ala., William R. Hines, Coppers Cove, Texas, Donald Hines, Whiteville, Tenn.; daughter, Lisa Hines, Rogersville, Ala.; brother, Joe P. Hines, Lexington, Ala.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Edward Lee Holley, 63, formerly of Emporia, Va., passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 6, 2002, at the Hospice & Palliative Care of Louisville's inpatient unit at Norton's Audubon Hospital. He was a former Virginia State Trooper who went into the healthcare field 35 years ago. For the past 19 years, he was the Executive Director of The King's Daughters and Sons Home, Inc. in Louisville. Mr. Holley was a past certified Fellow of the American College of Health Care Administrators, a member of the Pendennis Club and a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Pewee Valley, Ky. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, the former Patricia Squire Scheidemantel; three daughters, Mary-Helen Holley Douglas of Tucson, Ariz., Kathryn W. and Annalee S. of Louisville; and two grandchildren, Holley Anne and Peyton Leigh. Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James Episcopal Church, 401 LaGrange Rd., Pewee Valley. Visitation 6 to 9 p.m. at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Burial will be held in Emporia, Va. Mr. March retired from the Federal Reserve Bank after 45 years of service. PAINTER
Mr. James F. Painter, 74, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002 in Salem, Virginia following a period of declining health. He was born October 25, 1927 in Radford, Virginia to Franklin and Katherine Painter. Mr. Painter was a graduate of Radford High School and Emory & Henry College, where he is a member of the Emory & Henry College Sports Hall of Fame. He was in the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. He was a star halfback at Emory & Henry, where he played for Coach Conley Snidow's team that appeared in the Tangerine and Burley Bowls. He coached football at Dublin, Radford, and Martinsville High Schools prior to being named principal at Dublin High School. He later became an administrator in the Richmond City School System. He was a devoted son, a loving brother and a doting uncle. His tales were tall, his spirit lively and his laugh infectious. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Katherine Painter; and his brother-in-law and fellow Bobcat, David H. Wall. Survivors include his sister, Jane Painter Wall, now of Abingdon; two nephews and their wives, Richard H. and Carol F. Wall of Roanoke and James D. and Amy B. Wall of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three nieces and their husbands, Katherine and Eddie Hale of Pulaski, Elizabeth and William King of Abingdon and Susan and Les Beamer of Christiansburg; and 18 grandnieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Roanoke. A reception will follow in the church. Haynie O. "Big Daddy" Robertson, age 91, of Eldercare of Farmville, formerly of Crewe, widower of Sadie M. Robertson, died Wednesday, February 6, 2002. He was a retired employee of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, where he worked for 31 years, and was a retired farmer. He is survived by five children, Georgia M. Baldwin and husband, Bill of Crewe, W.M. "Billy" Morton and wife, Geraldine of Blackstone, Vernona S. Robertson and husband, Arthur of Cumberland, Jimmie E. Robertson and fiancee, Kitty McClelland of Dinwiddie, Patsy R. Thompson and fiancee, Charlie McKay of Appomattox; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Nettie R. Crafton of Blackstone; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mr. Robertson was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Burkeville, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday with interment to follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice. She was the widow of Herman Edgar Robinette and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harry T. and Ethel Robinette; sons, Andy and Fred Robinette; brother, Clyde Arrington of N.J.; grandchildren, Becky Wright, Harry Robinette Jr. and Stephanie Campbell, numerous nieces and nephews.
